Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wish I can watch it on TV .. who would've predicted Liverpool would go down from CL.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Obviously the linesman doesn't know the rules

Nice run and finish by Lucas. This is after me saying to my Dad that he shouldn't be playing as he's only ever used defensively and offers us nothing up front  He needs to make more runs like that though :TU:

Not great football from us tonight, far too much hoofing for my liking from both Carragher and Kyrgiakos. Torres isn't having much impact again, maybe Rafa was right when he said he's exhausted.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Brilliant counter attack :)

On another note, Cardozo is a disgrace. Tons of skill but flings himself around like Drogba's early days. Shame.

Kyrgiakos impresses me more with each game, really good signing.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Guess I'll be avoiding this thread tommorow. Seeing as how gracefull they were in winning I hate to think what they will do tommorow. Oh it makes victory all the more sweeter. :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Tik don't generalize things. For instance, im a Benfica fan and i didn't cooperate with the "heartburn".

Awful game from us. Jesus came up with a defensive strategy thinking Liverpool would try to play offensively when they ended up playing counter. Should have gone for at least Contrão on the Left, leaving the 2 CBs (Luisão & D. Luiz) by themselves and Amorim (whatever...) and contrão moving forward. Javi wasn't really good, but neither was any1 in our side. There were only the less bad and the really bad. Cardozo was beyond bad.. Aimar is a shadow of himself. Ramires is exhausted.

In the end you had the better plan and the best approach to the game. Kuddos to Rafa, completely took over Benfica.

I didn't think Aimar and Cardozo did too badly tonight, expected to see more of Di Maria though considering the amount of hype he's getting this season.

In any case, good luck for the rest of the season :TU:

Re: Liverpool Thread

I thought Benfica were POOOR, a shadow of their former selves, but they had to many dangerous players and to be fair to players like Agger who had an excellent game in a makeshift position, Kryiakos and Carrgher were also excllent, stopped any attacks, limiting chances to set pieces.

Mascherano and Lucas were like 2 little terriers. Kuyt was excellent, really looked sharp on and off the ball. Oh and Benayoun was excellent on the counter attack.

The thing with Lucas, he was never a holding midfielder, he was a box to box midfielder at Gremio, a proper CM, not a DM or an AM.

The away goal rule always makes things nervy when the 2nd leg is at home.

I think Benfica were the best team in the competition, and on form, favourites above even us. I wouldnt mind Cardozo upfront with Torres, he would be boss in the PL.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I doubt we'd be able to afford Cardozo :(

I wouldn't mind getting David Luiz to the club either, he's been superb over the two games.

Listened to Radio City after the match and it was mentioned that Torres has scored two goals in four successive home games at Anfield now, a new Liverpool record again for him :)

And Aguero is banned for the first leg :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Thought Cardozo should have been booked for his embarrassing dive looking for a penalty, absolutely pathetic.

Superb performance i thought, Lucas was brilliant and for a minute i thought it was Torres who'd scored! :D

Looking forward to the onslaught of bollocks that is surely heading to this thread from the bitter and biased Benfica fans "Kuyt was offside from the corner!!!!!!"

Let's wait for the next thursday's match and then we'll see it. ;)

:D

yeh it was an absolutely perfect counter attack, i thought Benayoun had fucked it up when he waited but he put a superb ball to Kuyt who in turn put a superb ball in to Torres.

Lucas's goal was amazing and Torres's second was a brilliant "Dalglish-esque" finish.

all-in-all a good night.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Somehow I dont think the Benfica fans will moan about this game.

There was nothing controversial. The Linesman doesnt know the rules of the game, maybe he shouldnt be a linesman?

Re: Liverpool Thread

honestly i was expecting much harder game for Liverpool but it was too easy, funny thing is Cardozo didnt do anything special in both games but he score 3 goal to Liverpool after 2 matches, this guy i like very much, very unusual defender player because he is talented almost like any attacking midfielder..

Re: Liverpool Thread

I hope you lot hit form now, need you lot to give us a hand with number 19 :))

Re: Liverpool Thread

he reminds me of Agger :D

somehow i think he'll go to a bigger club for more than the 6m we paid for the Dagger.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hehe, expected Benfica to be toothless again without Saviola and their squad being stretched challenging for the Liga Sagres, as well as the Europa League, a distraction that will no doubt seem unfamiliar to Liverpool.

And with Atletico missing Aguero for the first leg, the luck seems to be going your way.

Name on the trophy? Nah, that's Fulham, who've shown English clubs how to win away in Europe this season. :P

Re: Liverpool Thread

If you want him put 50M€ in the table otherwise no deal.

Poor performance today. The team was clearly exhausted. Didn't understand Jesus. Maxi in the bench when is unavailable to Sporting match. David Luiz in the left. Julio Cesar a crappy keeper for this games (ok he always played in Euroleague but I don't care). Plus the fatigue. We've played an exhausting match on monday with a comeback from 0-2 away at Naval, then tuesday we will have a crucial match against Sporting that can almost give us the title. Like Neo said Aimar bad, Cardozo invisible, well, many factors have dictated the defeat.

Congrats to Liverpool. Totally deserved go through. Rafa Benitez is a very nice guy, I liked a lot his interview to SIC (Portuguese TV channel).

See you next year in Champions League.
