Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Come to see Arsenal, we have some of the most vocal fans in the world ;))

Seriously though, it is ridiculous. Something Arsenal have definately suffered from. The more successful you get, the more money is spent on making more money through the corporate side. The more the tickets go up, so the support that was around years ago is replaced by richer more reserved fans.

One of the most ridiculous things is making fans sit down! so frustrating when there is a great game and you are really involved, then you get a stewerd coming over and telling you to sit down! stupid.

I remember when I was young in the North bank of Highbury, when it was all standing, was a great atmosphere.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah a few times when I've been at Old Trafford the atmosphere has been AMAZING, the CL semi against Barca is probably the most recent that springs to mind and the derby matches against City in the league and Carling Cup were pretty good but in general it's not that great other than fits and bursts. The green and gold campaign has really improved atmosphere's lately though, although it was pretty lacking on Saturday at Chelsea.

Re: Liverpool Thread

oh and my views on Torresgate yesterday:

Torres was lazy and sulking all game. Ngog was brought on to make space and drag defenders out wide, it very nearly worked. The press will have none of this and they've already said that Torres would have put Ngog's chance away.....no because he wouldnt have been on the end of it because of his sulking and falling to the ground antics.

It was a brave move, it nearly payed off, but didnt. And it will be the penultimate nail in his coffin. 4th place is gone, never mind Spurs, City and Villa are just as capable.

We can now look forward to possibly handing United the title by beating Chelsea..... oh and a very long tense night at Anfield. I have a bad feeling about the Benfica game. Disharmony, players moaning...and facing a quality, quality outfit.

The thing with Arsenal we do have our moments. But it is usually when we have a good spell of play or just after we score. When we are not playing well, we make no noise...arguably the time you need most noise and support for your team

Re: Liverpool Thread

What do you mean by colourful?

I mean, I appreciate that the Kop was a great stand but I can't help but feel a lot of it's 'legend' was exagerrated and overstated and it turned into a bit of a myth itself if you get me.

P.S. I'm not on a WUM. :)

Flags, Banners, Scarves

Come-on...No other club in England has as many CUSTOM BUILT banners and flags that represent and express our history and the love for our players and managers.

Chelsea tried to manufacture colour, and failed. The most colourful I've ever seen Old Trafford...is..well..now...The green and Gold scarves.

The legend of the kop has started to die down, but that was always going to happen when it became all standing and the capacity reduced down from 23-27k to...what is it now? 8-10k?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Im trying to find the video from the Barca 2round game in 2007......from ITV....I think Townsend was standing at the base of the kop with a Microphone just before the game, it really showed the scale of the the thing filled to the brim with flags from a players perspective.

This sort of fan display isnt uncommon in other countries, but its pretty unique in England.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah it's impressive but it's not like that now is it? They just sing that song from a musical you stole off Celtic until the tannoy stops and then sing "Liverpool, Liverpooooool..." over and over again. Or boo your players off the pitch. :D ;)

It's a shame that the game has gone like this. Last week when we played Bolton, Jon Champion on ESPN said (in quite a condescending tone) the reason for the large gaps around the away support (us) was because we get a lower allocation as "our supporters insist on standing"!! You mean, because the authorities insist on making us sit down and we don't so we get less tickets!!!! Fucking stupid, not like him to resist getting a dig in at us though! :)

This is a pic from the Stretford End from 77 with a load of flags looks pretty good.

Most banners get confiscated by the Glazer's henchmen, sorry stewards, these days but we do still have some good ones.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Old Trafford will never look like that again, thats why people say the club lost its soul when it removed football club from its name, this is the point I'm making. Liverpool still try to hold onto the traditions of football. Every other club seems to wheel out the furry mascots, and the music after every goal. Could I point out the horrible "United Road" fiasco at Old Trafford last season when the Liverpool players were warming up? The announcer was begging for you lot to sing it, but the Travelling Kop drowned out the tannoy until they cranked it up.

Football was much better back in the day. No-one gave a shat about half time food, taking pictures, it was all about the result and out singing the other team, even if your players on the pitch didnt do the business

Money, Success and the whole Sky/Premier League branding has ruined everything, and to a certain extent, Hillsborough too.

And excuse me we also sing FOAR which was voted the best footie song in Britain by opposition fans

YouTube - Fields of Anfield Road

ironically against Benfica, FROM the BENFICA end....and oh look, more Flares...

One Reason I'm voting for the Conservatives this year is that they have hinted they will look into Safe Standing.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah it probably won't look like that again but neither will the Kop. Most United fan's don't really like United Road, especially not the version they play at kickoff, it's cheesey as fuck but there's not much that can be done about that. Good video of your away support though, the people who go to aways are always the more diehard and passionate fans, our away support is fucking cracking too and you can always hear them over the home support on TV.

Here's some good pics of OT from this season though.

Like I said before, the atmosphere has really benefited from the LUHG campaign.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Damm' loved the old days of the PremierLeague. British supporters looked like Italian Ultras with that scarfs, flags and banners! Sweet! :WOOT:

Re: Liverpool Thread

"I'd rather be a muppet than a Scouse"

The atmosphere has definitely been galvanised by the LUHG campaign. The best OT crowd I've seen was Roma (Milan the round after was good also) at home in 2007, the place was buzzing.

Don't think that's OT mate, if I'm right it's Wembley for the 77 Cup Final.

Re: Liverpool Thread

One thing i miss from the EPL (and of course, im not English) is seeing those patterns in the crowd with all the scarf's and the flags and those numbers that the EPL had, which every shirt had to use. It made them look like a league, a unique league.
But thats me. :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

yes after some research that 77 pic is the cup final at wembley, 2-1 United.

thought this summed up the direction English football was heading....

I think most would agree that the Kop comes closet to looking like an old school atmopsheric stand. The flags are always there even for home games against Stoke, not in as many numbers as there are for European games however.

Re: Liverpool Thread

oh please its the same BS whoever gets in.

To a certain degree, but the only reason to go for the conservatives is if you have lots of money. They just don't have a clue about the needs of 'normal' people. Don't believe all of their bullshit about what they are going to do, its all a scam and to have dick head Dave running the country will be a tragedy. IMO of course.

Anyway back to the footy talk!! :DD

Re: Liverpool Thread

Those Liverpool pics look very Italian. Makes me think of Genoa and Sampdoria home games... also because the stadium is quite similar.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Jumbo,

this picture was from the last day of the standing Kop, and its only showing a portion of the stand there too

liverpool-kop-final-day.jpg

it wont look like that again because the stewards would never allow it and the capacity isnt the same, and people are more interested in bringing their camera phones than actually making custom flags.

but the other pictures are all recent, like these:

Please find me another club in England that has a show of support that impressive in RECENT Post Standing era. It just doesnt happen at any other English club

I'm sure you've heard the term...the "Soccer Am" generation..

Oh and I'm sure you will notice what I mean when the camera points at the Kop on Thursday night.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Anyone know much about Georginio Wijnaldum? He's after a move to us and Feyenoord are believed to be ready to sell for £5m.

Re: Liverpool Thread

After earlier dismissing the Europa League, I'm really looking forward to the game tonight! Especially with us being a goal down in the tie, it should be a cracking atmosphere and I'm hopeful we'll see a good performance from the team and going for it straight from the off.

Can't wait :RSCARF:
