Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

You're obsessed mate, it's pathetic.

Lucas didn't play yesterday and yet you still take the opportunity to have a go at him. You really should be an Evertonian. In fact Aquilani came off the bench and looked pretty poor imo. But unlike you i'm not judging him based on that, it's gonna be difficult for him to show his true form at the minute, but as long as the team is playing well and getting results i'm not arsed about individual players.

If Lucas plays and plays well (like he has many many times this season) i'm not going to complain simply because i like Aquilani. That'd be pathetic.
Dude, it was a joke. That was a picture of Gerrard yesterday and it has to be used. You should look in a dictonary or wikipedia the meaning of joke, cause clearly you dont know it.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Think dempsey`s goal was just as good or maybe better since it was the winning goal.Torres scoring again is great since I rate him to be the best striker

Re: Liverpool Thread

You know what? I agree with Andy Gray ( I know) that when you play the 13-14 team in the league you should line up similar to how you did on Sunday with Gerrard and Masch in the middle, the way Gerrard brought the ball forward from that position created so much space for Torres, Babel and co.

4-4-2 should be good enough for most of those sides yet you persist on going 4-5-1/4-3-3 which is best suited for the better/CL sides.
It makes sense against teams who play a 4-4-2 with two ball-winners, like Sunderland did with Cattermole and Cana.

Rafa's been very rigid with his tactics the past year or so and that lack of tactical flexibility has cost you lot.

And on the rare ocassions he has been tactically flexible, he's done stupid things like lining up with three centre backs against Boro.

Seriously, if you think that was a joke then you need to look up the definition yourself.

It was a thinly veiled dig at Lucas, yet again.

Re: Liverpool Thread

We've been saying that for ages, you don't need two DM's against the fodder of the league. In fact I would say only Chelsea, Manu and Arse should be played "tactically", while the rest of the teams should be played with your own players quality as the starting point.

It's sad really, Benitez has now twice had to let go of his "believes" and let the team attack because they were/are on the brink of failing. Earlier in the season we were still attacking however with the crap form of the defense we were losing/ conceding and since then we've been dire.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He's right.

I'd say they're the top two in the world but Villa edges it.

One example is how Villa's international record is ridiculous compared to Torres', especially considering Villa got his first cap in 2005, two years after Torres.

Re: Liverpool Thread

i was joknig btw , it's all opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs.

IMO I'd rather have Torres but Villa is amazing as well, i just think Torres has more to his game than Villa and scores more different types of goals, i'd love to have both.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Do they play well together? Only seen them together in the euro's, and that wasn't often either.

Take cover Abou! :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Nah, they're usually rubbish together.

Torres scored his only goal of Euro 2008 playing with Fabregas behind him in the final.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The international goals thing doesn't hold weight IMO. David Healy has got a fantastic record for Northern Ireland but he's not going to win ballon d'Or anytime soon! I think it'd be interesting to see how Villa would fare at a 'top' european club.

Yeh i'd tend to agree with this, look at Crouch's record for England for example, he's never going to be at the same level as the top top strikers yet he has a great international record.

Re: Liverpool Thread

World Cup 2006: 3 goals in 4 games

Euro 2008: 4 goals in 4 games (Top Scorer)

Combine that with his goalscoring at club level, having scored 20+ goals a season for 9 consecutive seasons.

There's been very few goalscorers in recent years as consistent as Villa, obviously there's the added bonus he isn't as injury prone as Torres, he hasn't suffered a serious injury like RvN did in 2008/09 nor has he been frozen out of first team football like Toni had.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Oh yeah, i wasnt saying he wasnt class, i'd have loved him to sign for us, just saying international goals isn't always the best gauge. World Cups and Euro's is a bit different of course.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It was only comparing the two of them, since they've been Spain's first choice partnership for the majority of their international careers and thus will have generally faced the same opposition.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Torres is better and if Xavi stayed he would provided Torres the service he lacks. Villa needs to leave to a bigger club give `em a better validation Chelsea,Utd,Pool or RM would do

Re: Liverpool Thread

Different player though........

Torres is an out and out striker, Rooney on the other hand is more deep lying and can create play more imo.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Considering Villa as a "mere" goal scores is doing him injustice. Villa is much more that a goal scorer. He also gives lots of assists.
IMO he's not only the better goal scorer than Torres, but his overall play is much better. I see him as a better version of Dalglish. (And why Dalglish never was voted European player of the year is beyond me if you consider that Keagan was twice European player of the year...Dalglish was much, much better than Keagan).
Of course the greatest goal scorer of all times is Gerd Muller. But as an allround forward i would hesitate between Van Basten, Dalglish and Villa.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Villa and Rooney are both very similar, both started out as creative forwards but both now our lead the line CF's and are able to combine both elements, currently I'd say Villa is more proven but Rooney has a few raw abilities which make him better in the long term (Faster/Stronger better passer).

Considering Ronaldo is a CF also now he's probably the best out the lot at the moment.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Aquilani's injured. Again. And it's the same ankle he had an injury on last time.

As good as he is (from the glimpses we've seen), I can't help feel that the lad gets injured far too much.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm wondering whether he is injured, I mean it was obvious we were going to play with 2 dm's and not have Aqui in the team. To me it just seems a bit suspect that nearly everytime the pressure would be on to play him he's injured.

Or

He's made of........uhhh what is that fragile?!

what gets me is we forked out 20m for the bloke, hes hardly kicked a ball.In comparison we did get a good return on robbie keane when he was sold back to spurs (eventhough he was just starting to come good imo). What im trying to say is if rafa was to try and sell him on who would have him? I for one wouldnt be in a hurry to get my chequebook out,not for anywhere near 2o mill in any case. I just hope he can shake this injury jinx off,and prove me wrong, but i wont hold my breath.

So far he's only cost us about £5m and it's £17m overall.

I don't think this is a big injury, i think he's taken a bit of a knock and with it being the same ankle as the major injury he had, the club are worried he could excacerbate it easily so they're resting him. Tbh i'm not that bothered about it for tomorrow as Lucas was bound to come back in anyway, I hope he's fit for the Birmingham game though.

Next season will be big for Aquilani imo, he'll be brought in gradually over the next few weeks i reckon and then he'll get a full pre-season and be ready to start fresh next season.
