Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Liverpool & Rafa, Its become a boring relationship. Maybe it was a boring one from the start and it was being forced to blossom, but to no avail. Probably no chemistry from the start and its all showing now.

Managers are like teachers, in charge of a bunch of kids of all types, and its up to them to motivate the brats. If they're interesting enough, you'll definitely get all of them interested. But if you're boring, oh boy. Think that is the difference between the likes of Alex and Rafa.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yup Witsel played...But he played wide, although his best place is CMF. At that time Fellaini played DMF and Defour AMF. When Fellaini went to Everton, the coach put Defour (to his astonishment) as a DMF and Witsel as AMF. Now Defour claims that DMF is his best position but we already have Fellaini, Vertonghen and Kompany who can play DMF. Vertonghen and Kompany can also play CB, but then we have Alderweireld (Ajax), Van Buyten (Bayern), Vermaelen and Lombaerts (Zenith) who have CB as their favourite position.

Sorry for the off-topic.

On topic: Hazard is a bit of a diver...is that all you guys have seen yesterday??? I don't want to cause aggro but players like Gerrard and Lucas are big divers too...diving becomes a irritating when other team's players do it...just admit that Hazard played a great match yesterday.

Oh and Lille are a very good team. French football has a real renaissance look at the results of Bordeaux, Lyon and now Lille.

PS: everything isn't lost...Liverpool can still qualify.

I'd rather they not........as I don't want to have to sit through more then the minimum amount of nessecary games (league) :P

Also "succes" in the EL might mean that Rafa stays longer. And really that's not going to be good for anybody.

"Great" ?

He had a good game, but "great"? Not at all. Balmont and Obraniak stood out more for me, and that was with me watching Hazard more.

Liverpool CAN still qualify, sure. But look at our form, do you really think we'll not concede a goal? Or score two goals to win the tie? If Lille do score, will we be able to score three goals?

It's highly unlikely that we'll qualify in my opinion. We don't have that creativity to open up defences and Lille will mark Gerrard and Torres out of the game again. Playing one man up front, if that player is double-marked, then we're screwed. We've been worked out now and Rafa needs to change the system up a bit.

Two up front would be a great start. That one bit of good interplay from Liverpool yesterday as Torres and Babel working together, I'd like to see that more often.

Re: Liverpool Thread

TWO STRIKERS!?!?!?! ARE YOU MAD!? WHO IS GOING TO COVER THE DEFENSE IF WE ARE WASTING TWO PLAYERS UP FRONT?!?!?!

;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Indeed!

Reina
Glen Cara Kyriagkos Agger
Masch
Gerrard Aquilani
Babel Torres Yossi

Saw that on RAWK, would be a great tactic for Portsmouth. No messing around, get some creative players out there, lots of flair, Torres has support, no wasting players by having two defensive mids, just about what we need :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

I would have doubts about Agger on the left and Yossi aswell tbh. Agger won't be bombing down the wing and we would end up with Yossi, Babel cutting inside to join Gerrard and Aquilani in probably the most conjested AM in the world ever! :D

I would edit it to be:

--------Reina------------
Glen-Kyriagkos-Agger-Insua
---------Masch-----------
Gerrard--Aquilani---Reira
------Babel Torres-------

Stick Gerrard on the right which would be a really strong attacking Rightside with Johnson, Have Reira and Insua take care of the left and have Babel/Torres with Aquilani joining in for the attack. You would have 3 attackers in/near teh box whilst having Gerrard and Johnson take the p!ss on the right imo and either Reira or Insua can join in on the left raining crosses in. Added to that you would have a combination of Gerrard and Aquilani looking for the killer pass/combo with Torres and it should be a pretty strong attacking line-up.
Offcourse that only leaves 3 defenders in the team when attacking but it's not like they are doing well anyway.......

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think Insua clearly needs a rest, he's being picked apart by teams on a regular basis now as he's our weakest link. With Aurelio being injured (again), I think Agger should go there. He's done it before and done well, got to be worth a try.

When you look at the players, it's obvious we've got some good talent there and that's the most frustrating thing. All the fans want us to play to our strengths and attack teams but Rafa just keeps holding the players back.

We've seen what happens when we attack and we become a team worth watching. This season has been some of the worst football I've seen and if we carry on with the same style, we might not even finish 6th with the likes of Everton in good form as well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ok Dags, then you must be the only one who does not think that Hazard stood out...of course i'm not the big specialist, but take a look at a few French and English papers or their website...take the Guardian for example. Is goals was a bit a lucky one they say, but he was Lille's best player (and can i conclude then, also the best on the pitch).

But let's agree to disagree, it's not that important and i understand that you are frustrated. Next year Liverpool will surely have a better season...this bad season is not exactly a calamity.

I totally agree with you. Seing Liverpool matches has been far away from pleasure since a long time ago.

No Kuyt, no Lucas!! NEVER!!

Seriously, that needs to be given a try. Babel and Torres combined brilliantly.

You can bet anything we'll have Kuyt and Maxi on the wings, and Lucas and Masch in midfield.

Been saying that for ages yet got accused of being a windup merchant! :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hazard was Lille's biggest attacking asset on the night and their play was pretty awful to be honest. With Gervinho back in the 2nd leg things are only going to get harder.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah aside from the fact he's got a fucking gigantic forehead and a fake Brazilian name, Gervinho is a decent player and could cause some problems.

Re: Liverpool Thread

So Torres has laid down the gauntlet, buy some good players in the Summer/ Compete for title next season or im off.

Re: Liverpool Thread

:APPLAUD:

Pretty much exactly what we need. Over to you, owners!!

I don't blame Torres for issuing demands like that, and it wouldn't surprise me if Torres is speaking for more than himself as well. Pretty much the ultimate threat to the Americans.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's a pretty harsh statement to make, saying the players here aren't good enough and offer no challenge to be in the team. He's saying that whenever he, and Gerrard, are fit enough they don't need to do anything and they will still always play.

That's not just an attack on your teammates and owners but also saying Benitez has so little faith in the rest he will always play them. That's shocking when you consider that the whole team is now made by Benitez. And Benitez can't continue moaning about finance, he's bought 3 20mil players in the last two summers and only one of them get's games. For that money you should have 3 regulars who should be considered definite starters. Combined with Torres, Gerrard, Masch and Reina should make 7 top quality players with the rest filling in, developing. Instead we have two who are perfoming and showing they want to perform and two who are continually rushed back from injuries and can't be arsed anymore.

So instead of having 7 players we have 2!

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's not Torres job to moan about the quality of his team mates.
All he has to do is saty fit and play good matches. He wasn't that brilliant this season either.
He should shut up.

Maybe because he's been injured for a good portion of it and hasn't really had a period of playing at full fitness? 13 goals in 17 or 18 games this season, not TOO bad eh?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Once Aquilani starts playing... you guys will start seeing his crazy screamers! That skinny boy can shoot some pretty scary shots!

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think Torres said that for a reason. He's IN the team and he obviously knows whats going on more than us. We know nothing except what we see on the pitch. We don't know how things are in the locker room. He's obviously unhappy about a few things. Maybe its Rafa, maybe the Owners, maybe the food, who knows?

Founded in 1996, the Rhone Group is owned and managed by financiers Robert Agostinelli and Steven Langman.

The company describes itself as "one of the world's leading mid-market private equity firms", and has its headquarters in New York with other offices in London and Paris.

Mafia!

You're in for a treat...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hi never said that Torres was bad Dags.
He simply did not play enough to be brilliant or make a difference.
I think players should not interfere with club management. That is a bad sign that a player considers himselg bigger than his club.
If Torres played for Burnley that would be the case, but never for Liverpool. Liverpool are a monument and Torres is at his best a fellow traveler.
