Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

So did anyone read an article on footie365.com about the potential positve outcome of Portsmouth going bust for Liverpool?

Seeing as they have been denied their transfer request today and are on the brink the result of it would be a highly amusing........namely points won against Portsmouth this season would be scrapped.

http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8742_5934938,00.html

The league table would look like this:

Team P GD PTS
Full Premier League table
1 Chelsea 24 39 52
2 Man Utd 24 41 51
3 Arsenal 24 31 48
4 Liverpool 25 16 44
5 Tottenham 25 19 40
6 Man City 23 15 39
7 Aston Villa 24 13 39

Re: Liverpool Thread

why would it be a farce? the only farce is that they've been allowed to continue trading as long as they have

if they do go bust there's 13 teams who've yet to play them (including stoke which is being played now) what happens to the potential points from those games?

the premier league would have 2 options, the first and best imo is to remove all points/goals scored in their games so far so every team has a 36 game season

the 2nd option would be to award all the teams yet to play them 3 points, how they would sort the goal difference would be a problem though, if they did do this then the table would look like this

1 Chelsea 27 61
2 Man Utd 27 57
3 Arsenal 26 52
4 Liverpool 27 47
5 Tottenham 27 46
6 Man City 25 45
7 Aston Villa 26 45
8 Everton 27 41
9 Birmingham 26 40
10 Fulham 26 34
11 Stoke City 26 34
12 Blackburn 27 34
13 Wigan Athletic 26 28
14 Wolves 26 27
15 Hull City 29 27
16 Sunderland 25 26
17 Bolton 26 26
18 Burnley 26 26
19 West Ham Utd 25 24

the biggset losers would probably be west ham

Re: Liverpool Thread

They won't be able to do the 2nd option imo, far too many potential arguments. Offcourse the 1st isn't without it's own problems but would be the fairer option. Imagine if a team had played them the week/day before they officially go bust and lost the match. That would mean they would be punished for having played a team/club that shouldn't be allowed to play.

Atleast the 1st option would mean the league table would be based on actual games and teams in the league, and the end result will be "fair" as the only points gained or lost are from team competing.

Re: Liverpool Thread

this discussion's been going on on the lfc.tv forums for weeks

tbh it's a bit of a shit thought. As much as i hate the travel down there and the bellend with the bell, and the fact that they beat us, i still don't want them to go bust. They're a football club just like our one, they've been abused and ran into the ground by greedy bastards after a quick profit, the fans and players don't deserve it.

Yes we'd benefit from it (plus i wouldn't mind us getting Belhadj) but i think it's wrong for us to want another club to go bust just so we gain a few points.

At the same time they are fucked and relegation means they'll be even more fucked, maybe closing up and starting fresh would be the best option for them.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Don't want them to go bust, after all it's not like we are in a very good position either. And for 3 points it's not even worth wanting them to go bust.

Would just find it amusing for all those haters if Liverpool would get 4th because of something outragous like that.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Really impressed with our starting lineup and bench today, looks good on paper.

But then the team against Unirea sounded good too.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Playing quite well so far, and it looks like the creativity has appeared suddenly. Unfortunately we're lacking a lot of composure in the final third as usual and we panic when we get the ball there.

Could go either way, this match.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Fucking awful refereeing again, for both sides.

Can someone please explain how Torres got a yellow card?

How did Barry pulling Gerrard to the floor not result in a card but Gerrard barely touching Lescott gets him a yellow?

Agger clearly shoved Adebayor and I'm not sure why the ref didn't get City a penalty?

Does Benayoun (or any player) HAVE to go down from a tackle to get a penalty?

Barry thought he was playing basketball and jumps into the air, CLEARLY handballing it but no card?

AWFUL again, the FA needs to get these refs sorted out.

Pleased with our performance today, showed a lot more attacking mentality and determination with the final ball letting us down as well as City defending really well.

Not sure either team deserved a win there so a fair result in my opinion.

Re: Liverpool Thread

If Portsmouth fold and everyone loses the points won against them that would more than make up for the beachball incident.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Cant stop thinking what would had happened if Aquilani started the match as a tetraquartista behind Kuyt, Gerrard and Mascherano in the midfield and Riera and Maxi on the sides. Lucas has proved again that the only big team in which he would play is Liverpool (and only with Benitez).
Anyway, we needed to win this match and we didnt. Looking foward to hear what pathetic excuse Benitez is going to put.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I thought we're the Tramping-on team today, lucky no red cards.

The game was there for the taking, again why the f*ck you put Aquilani with 3 minutes left, baffling, he barely made a pass or two.

Torres said something to the ref that made him give the yellow.

I know, what is the point?!

Clueless, the more and more I see the team "play" the more I think Benitez should leave in the summer. You just know that with Torres coming back we will be even more 1 dimensional with hoofs being knocked up to him with the hope he and Gerrard can make something happen, while the rest of the team shits themselves and won't go past the HW line....

That's what the rest of the season will be, very very defensive set-up with those two and maybe Reira/Beni trying to make something happen. And offcourse Dirk trying to......well whatever.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Glad Hiddink is out the picture cause I can't really see that many top manager's hanging around.

Sorry. Why do you say the Hiddink is out of the picture ? I read some days ago that he is off from Russia in the summer, is he going to take a charge in Chelsea ?

Re: Liverpool Thread

He just signed for Turkey's national team.
Fuck. That are really bad news, I wanted him to manage Liverpool. I actually dont know who could be a good replacement, some months ago there were some pretty good managers. But now Mancini is at City, Spalletti at Zenit and Hiddink at Turkey.

Re: Liverpool Thread

4 more years w/ rafa me think just wait! a gad-darn minute he at least brought trophies to the club. Fans think in the now which is so unrealistic what a predicament.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well it's not so much a Rafa out thing imo, it just seems that everything has gone stale at the club. The players aren't lacking "form", they just don't play! You can't be out of form for a whole season, which Liverpool are very close to being. So something has to give, and replacing players and spending millions isn't going to do the job when a manager has spent 20mil on a midfielder that he doesn't want to play!

Generally it seems to be a common factor with very defensive tactical managers to me, teams/players just go stale when they are consistently subjected to too many defensive duties and that when it doesn't work after a few years a manager can't get the players going again.

Gerrard is a very obvious example, you can see he is pissed off most of the match with the crap that surrounds him, when Beni and Torres were on he seemed to change his attitude a bit (or I thought he did).

Re: Liverpool Thread

But Liverpool have a (litle) tradition in signing defensive coaches: Houllier and now Benitez (can't even remember who managed them before Houllier).
I hope for the sake of the club that they don't replace Benitez with Keagan, that would be the worst case scenario...

Oh and i really don't understand why Benitez wanted Aquilani if he hardly ever plays him.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah you can see why Hicks & Gillett are reluctant to give him more transfer funds when he spent that much on one guy and then never plays him.
