Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well everyone seemed to have a go at Rafa for constantly rotating his team and giving him grief for it, no grief was ever given to Ferguson, Chelsea or Wenger for their rotation though.

Just shows that the media will use any stick they can to beat down a manager they want to hassle, but will choose not to use that same stick on others if it doesn't fit their agenda.

I suppose the fact we won two titles, a CL title and reached another CL final in that timespan would justify what Fergie's done.

There is no media agenda against Liverpool, it's just the "flavour of the month", like now Man Utd are apparently in decline and Fergie'll offload half his squad.

The media build up a team or a certain individual and then will knock them down, it's how the media works. Maybe it'll be Chelsea's turn next if they drop points during the ANC.

Ranieri was heavily criticised in the media and given the nickname 'Tinkerman' when he was at Chelsea for over-rotating and there's been pieces recently about how much Fergie does it, like Abou said this weekend will see the 101st game with a differnet team to the last but you can't expect people to criticise SAF for it when he keeps winning the league.

Also that stat doesn't mention what time period it covers. Rafa made a conscious change to stick with a preferred XI from a certain point I think it was last season so if the stat is from this season then this won't take his previous rotation into account.

You're in danger of sounding like a stereotypical defensive paranoid scouser.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Maxi for 1.5m? No way. Hes linked to Juventus here in Italy for around 15m....

It's Maxi Rodriguez, I'm sure there is a "Maxi" out there aswell. If not, it shows how much they know, he's only got 6months left on his contract! You sure you didn't just miss the "." between the 1 and 5? :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Patrik Berger has retired, I always like him as a player when he was at Liverpool. We could do with someone like that now.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Considering he was injured a lot of the time at Liverpool, I think Berger has done quite well to extend his career this far. Still remember that free kick against Utd.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Considering how poor your squad is why are you offloading 3 players and bringing in 1.

Getting rid of Voronin, Degen and Dossena I don't mind as they don't play anyway. I'd like Babel to be given a HUGE kick up the ass as I'm sure he can be a world class player given the right coach to help him but he's just right with Rafa.

On the other hand, I'd be happy to see Pacheco, Eccleston, Kelly, Spearing and Darby coming in more and stepping up to replace the above players.

Funny story.

The day he signed, my mum (Dortmund were her Euro team in the 90s) took my sister (Liverpool fan) and me to Anfield just to see if we might see him appearing in front of the press and whatnot.

We waited around for hours and eventually saw Roy Evans and Sammy Lee appear outside explaining that they'd signed him, and got their autographs.

Waited a bit longer and there Berger appeared, and as he walked out into the car park with all the cameras round him, my mum said I should go over there and see if I could get an autograph. I was given my sisters Liverpool shirt (the white and green squared one) and I ran in front of him and he signed my back. I appeared on Sky Sports Centre later that day. Bit of a horrible thought appearing on TV in a Liverpool shirt but what can you do eh? :D

Despite playing for you lot I was always a fan from that point.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Nice story mate :)

How did the Utd allegiance come along then?

----

Anyone know much about Chamakh? Looks like the rumours are true that we're interested in him, and a seemingly quality player for free is good business. Apparantly teams like Man Utd, Inter, Ajax, Marseille, Arsenal, Lyon and Juventus have enquired/made bids for him in the past.

Re: Liverpool Thread

So is Chamakh out of contract in the summer? Read a rumour that Liverpool had a pre-contract agreement, figured it was to sign him in the summer for 10mil or something.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Nope, he's out of contract. Clubs were after him in the past but Bordeaux kept refusing offers or asking for silly money. It looks like Chamakh has let his contract run down.

As someone said, it'd make sense to get someone like him on a pre-contract rather than during the summer when all valuations are sky high due to the World Cup.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well match is off this sunday. Not sure if that's a good thing or not really, guess it enables Liverpool to hopefully get some form against lesser lights and for Spurs to implode (as they likely will) before it gets played.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Personally don't rate him, He's got raw abilities which someone like Wenger could probably mould into a decent player but he wouldn't work for you guys, isn't the best of finishers but good in the air. If he's for free then he's a good backup for Torres

Re: Liverpool Thread

No but all player valuations go up during the WC regardless. Managers know that players in the WC will go for crazy money, and so clubs will look at players not in the WC to try and get them cheaper.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Voronin should've went in the summer really.

YG, it doesn't say anywhere in the article any player names. It's the media putting their spin on things, as usual.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Asked whether Liverpool, who have significant debts, would be able to resist a £100m offer from Manchester City for Torres, he said: "At the moment we have to do the best for the club – and the best for the club is trying to improve the squad."

But when pressed for a second time on the matter, he replied: "We would have conversations if we had to decide about this."

Re: Liverpool Thread

Honestly guys, it's a non-news article.

If an offer came in, If the club needed to sell because of debts, we would talk IF we had to decide about this.

Ask a few questions of similar vagueness like that to fergie and you would get: "Fergie to retire in the summer, OMG!!!
