Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Riiight, so you're judging Aquilani on a game where no player on the pitch was able to consistently play basic passes on a boggy pitch lined with snow and rain, and Aquilani trying to thread passes through whereas Lucas hardly ever tried to set goals up as he always passes sideways or backwards.

Really not sure where you're getting that comparison from, that's like saying Ronaldo is the new Roy Keane or something crazy.

Incidently that's only Aquilani's second start for the club, and he's hardly played any time as a sub either. How many players do you expect to walk into a different country and perform immediately? Nani is performing well for his price tag I notice and he's been in England for a long period now.

You're mad to form an opinion of someone having not even seen the player play for more than two games really. Especially when that player is settling into a new country, totally different style of football, in shitty weather conditions where every player struggled, and that player is returning from a serious injury. I wonder how many other people expected him to be the best player in the world within his first two games...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Bad enough coming back from injury but also having to play in a side that often looks bereft of confidence and inspiration.

I'm not sure where our confidence is going to come from. I mean, we go and beat our two biggest rivals in Utd and Everton but we still can't manage to put a run of wins together after those games. Both of those wins should've pushed our confidence right up there but neither did. Very odd and if winning against our biggest rivals doesn't fill you with confidence, I'm not sure what will.

Maybe thumping a team 8-0 or something, although we're lucky to even score one these days really so that's not likely to happen anytime soon I guess.

I'm still under the impression that all isn't well in the dressing room and there's problems within the squad and with Rafa.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Decent performance yesterday, team looked reasonably solid. Thought Lucas and Aquilani did well, they complimented each other. The problem with Lucas and Masch is that they take up too many of the same positions and neither is really creative. Aquilani has far more movement and creates some extra space/time in the centre. He needs time to adapt as he had some poor control/passes at times but the midfield had better balance yesterday.

As for the wingbacks, well Ive noticed precisely why Insua is so crap at defending headers, he can't jump very well but he also closes his eyes when heading. Ridiculous! As for Johnson, he seems to be falling into Rafa's tactical blackhole with little attacking quality shown yesterday (he did have his hands full with the wingers) which is ok, but he seems lazy in possesion with quite a few simple passes going out.

As mentioned earlier, it's so easy to defend against Liverpool, nobody takes a shot outside the area, with both Kuyt and beni coming inside. Really need to have some wingers on and put Kuyt out of our misery. The amount of times the attack just fell flat with him recieving the ball......but then who do we have? Rather give Babel a run on the RW so he can sell himself for the coming transfer period.

Re: Liverpool Thread

You'll go on a run now. I've changed my mind about 4th though, City will get it, their just a better team/squad then you

Re: Liverpool Thread

They're........

Was thinking something similar today. Not so much that they are better, but with the new manager boost it's very possible that they will go on a 5-10 game run of good results that will enable them to keep enough of a gap to get 4th. Ofcourse that's assuming Liverpool actually start to perform in the final 3rd. Can't remember a single good chance created in the last two matches Ive seen (Portsmouth and Villa).

Re: Liverpool Thread

He can play left, right and through the middle. So you probably know more than me where he'll play.

Re: Liverpool Thread

More papertalk;

Ruud to sign on loan with Vd Vaart joining him. All the dutchies want to make the WC so atleast that means they will have to work their arses off if they do join.

Having Ruud could be a good signing, although it could work as well as Owen's. Not sure about vd Vaart, where is he gonna play?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I thought van der vaart needed to go somewhere with great medical facilities due to his wife's illness? Anywho, talented player, but didn't really take off like he was forecast to.

Maxi on almost a free and Ruud on a free would be some great business. If he doesn't get injured, RvN guarantees goals. I'd hate to see it as he was one of my favourite players, but I guess it's clear we're not interested and I do want him to play well at the WC...

That said, it seems to me to make more sense to Ruud to move somewhere where he'd be playing week in week out, like an Everton or the like, rather than occasional performances when Torres is hurt.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Unless Rafa is planning a tactical change?

I'd hate to see Ruud at Liverpool. Quality player. Maxi, Ruud and VdV would be some seriously good business though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Maxi on verge of agreeing Liverpool deal

The Atletico Madrid midfielder Maxi Rodriguez now appears to be very close to finalizing a transfer to Liverpool and has been left out of the Spanish club`s squad ahead of Wednesday`s Cup tie against Recreativo. As we reported earlier, the situation has been moving quickly today and the final details on a two and a half year deal at Anfield are close to being agreed.

The 29 year old Argentine midfielder has spoken with both Javier Mascherano and Fernando Torres and is incredibly excited about the move while also being aware that he will be competing with Dirk Kuyt for a starting berth on Liverpool`s right flank. However, with a place in Diego Maradona`s World Cup at stake, Maxi is confident that he will be seeing plenty of action for Liverpool.

Rodriguez will cost Rafa Benitez around £1.5 million and players will be leaving Anfield this January: as has been reported elsewhere, Dossena is close to agreeing the switch to Napoli, while rumours are surfacing that Ryan Babel is a possible target for both Birmingham and Tottenham.

Weather permitting, Dossena will be signing for Napoli tomorrow as well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Do people still care what Balague says? The guys a moron. The Daily Star have probably got a higher transfer story/truth ratio than he has.

Re: Liverpool Thread

To be fair Jumbo it depends who he's reporting for. He's close friends with Rafa so most the Liverpool stories are probably right, When it comes to United he's a complete knob though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Dossena for 4,5mil. Not bad, considering he has played about 5 matches in 18 months and hasn't impressed in any. Worth 2,5mil just to score against the Mancs. :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Something interesting I've just read on Twitter:

paul_tomkins

From Martin Tyler: On average ManU make 5.6 changes to their team from game to game. Chelsea make 4.9, Arsenal 4.7 and Liverpool 3.4

Re: Liverpool Thread

So, Dossena, Voronin, Babel seem to be off. Maxi on the verge of signing.

Re: Liverpool Thread

And that's it, none of the money from sales will be given to Rafa apparantly.

Degen is off too.
