Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think pool will be fine when they first play at Anfield. Part of their problem was that for 60 minutes the tactic was 'Hoof it at Torres, have him run into the defender and go down to get the foul'. Unfortunately the Pool, the ref was having none of it. But at home that'll work wonders.

With Ronaldo gone, it's nice of him to take up the mantle.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Whats up with you lads with all this negativity? It's game one, still many to go. Put your chin up guys, trust in Rafa.

Oh and that shove on Voronin looks prettty close to a penalty, 50-50 I say.

No negativity mate. I'm convinced we'll see a different Liverpool side beginning of September. It's just that this side needs to evolve now. We need to have better movement, and every player now should take the responsibility of being the playmaker when they have the ball. That was Sacchi's basic principle.

Would love someone like David Silva in our present team. Don't think he's much of a gamebreaker himself, but we could really do with someone like him playing wide. Someone comfortable on the ball, and carrying the ball around. The guy's basically a playmaker, just like Yossi was yesterday. We need more players like them, if we are to reach the transition state. Think our defense is already on it's way, with Johnson, Agger, Insue, and especially Aurelio. Not Carra though. Never. HOOF!

Re: Liverpool Thread

The difference when Benayoun came on was immense, shows the lack of creativity when he doesn't play.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Benayoun should have started not Babel, he's earned that spot with his performances whereas Babel has been sporadically good and mostly ineffective. Saying that, Babel did look really good against England midweek which makes me think he's still unhappy at Liverpool for whatever reason.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Is this money story real? F#$king out of order if it is, read that Rafa was going the recieve the annual 25mil + what was left from Keane + whatever he raised with sales = 60-65mil. With Johnson being 10mil + 18 for Aqua it means about half the budget has been taken by the yanks!

If they are trying to get him to resign they are going the right way about it!

Re: Liverpool Thread

My uncle can't go to the game tomorrow and has sent me his fancard and letter in the post to get to me tomorrow :D Hope I'm alright using his fancard and letter though?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Letter? Don't know how it works at Anfield but you can give someone else your season ticket swipe card thing at OT with no problems.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Fucking hell, these owners really are trying to appeal to the fans and make Rafa feel wanted :BRICK:

Edit: The thread now reckons Ian Cotton as said we're very close to signing him and an announcement will go on the players website shortly. The guys 6'5" and great in the air so he should be decent backup.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Err not really mate, but looking at ayala and do you know the way to san jose , he'd probably get on the bench as a formidable if not towering centre half at your gaff.

Re: Liverpool Thread

yeh i've just seen that, ran the statement through freetranslation.com and it came up as:

DECLARATION BY THE σωτήρη κυργιάκου

in my life κρύφτηκα ever, not always taking the cost of each choice whatever my was this. So I have learned. Last week I said that I am player of AEK for the next four years so was precisely. Today, the greatest challenge which I have accepted in my career, cancels saying it. Such is life. Many times plays curious toys.

Which is pretty much a cryptic way of saying "i thought i'd be staying at AEK but Liverpool have offered me a chance to play for them and i can't turn that down"

looks like we've got our new number 3.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Kyrgiakos was good in his prime (though even then heavily criticized by many though I always thought mostly unjustified and unfairly) but now he's definitely past it. Didn't see this coming!

On the other hand, he's tall, strong and good in the air (slow tho) and he always fights and gives it his all! A player I always liked but this is surprising. Nonetheless, it's a backup CB they wanted and he fits that role and is experienced enough to do a job.

Looks like L'pool could still use Sami after all though had they not parted ways. Because Kyrgiakos is essentially coming to fill that backup-Older-experienced-CB-past it-role.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Wow Carra & Ayala / Kelly as starters on our 2nd game? And I thought we had too many CBs.

Re: Liverpool Thread

FFS, the sportschannel over here is showing all the CL qualifiers instead of the prem. Bollocks!

Shame Sami decided to leave, he was offered another year wasnt he? With some coaching stuff added to it?

Re: Liverpool Thread

He wanted first team football, or at least more chance of it, so I'm not surprised he left as he's still good enough to play more than he was likely to for us.

I'm sure he'll be back as a coach though, pretty much a certainty I reckon.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Its not that bad of a signing really is it. People are moaning, but they were moaning about Rafa going after Turner and Shawcross at 10mish each...for a 4th choice backup CB? (heck maybe 3rd, i think Agger is cursed)

Personally Agger's injury worries me the most, we're a much better football side with him in the team, we need someone with his abillity on the ball and someone who offers a goalthreat.

Now there are some very disturbing rumours about the money situation. We aren't in dire straights, there IS money, the Xabi transfer provided alot of it, and of course we've sold Leto and a few others. Rafa has made a massive profit so far.

The owners are blocking futher buys. Remember Rafa nearly walked because of the owners, then he was promised a decent budget, excluding revenue from player sales. Now he isnt even being given the money from players sales. They've gone back on their promise to support him fully to bring home the title.

Koptalk sources think Rafa could walk, its the last straw sort of thing. I dont personally, unless things are really deterioating. He still looks fairly calm. If he is planning on resigning, I think he'd see the season out, he'll want to see how Aqualani and Johnson get on.

Apparently David Silva would have been a Liverpool player this summer, but yes, you guessed it, the American clowns blocked it.

Just really depressed at the moment, this was meant to be the season that we pushed on and added depth to a pretty darn good first eleven.

I think a win tonight might makes things a bit better though :) Anything but a win and the mood will get worse. just think, a win tonight and we'll actually be doing better than we were last year. Spurs beat us at home last year and we drew with Stoke at home ;) We always make a slow start to the prem season, usually because WE ALWAYS PLAY AWAY FROM HOME against TOP HALF SIDES!!!! whilst we are still rusty and in 2nd gear.

Positive from Spurs game:

Johnson
Insua (defended superbly, and we all know he can attack, thought he was a bit cautious though)
Lucas (very tidy, looks of tackles, outperformed Jim IMHO)
Benayoun - Automatic starter for me!

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wouldn't be surprised if Rafa went if the owners keep acting like idiots. He's been given promises and they're not being kept. And I wouldn't blame him for going either :(

Fan card has arrived so I'm off to the game tonight, can't wait :)
