Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I always liked Crouch, very good player in my opinion. But I wouldn't want to pay £10m+ to bring him back.

Re: Liverpool Thread

So will he still get done to a lesser extent and get community service or does it get dropped completely because they lost the case and the original charges they were aiming for?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Cool. So for the record, punching someone 3 times (I assume 4 would be over the top) is a valid form of self defence. Happy days! Good legal precedence this...

But we all know the rich/famous get off... OJ!!!!

Not to defend Gerrard as IMO he shouldnt have been in that situation in the first place, but how many of these fights happen every weekend with it just dying down and everyone just moving on. And Im talking generally as 7v1 is another matter.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The Crouch story originated in the Daily Star and now all the other media outlets are pushing it as a story so IMO it's probably garbage.

And once again the wonderful British legal system showed its true beauty as Gerrard is given a not guilty verdict on the grounds of self defence.

Tik, I agree with what you say about this happening every weekend but this isn't an every day case because of who is involved. Gerrard is supposed to be a role model for young kids, he is WORSHIPED in Liverpool and across the world, I for one would not want my son (if I had one) to look up to and respect this guy because he sets a terrible example.

The fact a unanimous verdict of not guilty was given despite Gerrard admitting to throwing the punches and the CCTV showing no signs of the other guy fighting really worries me.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think I'll go out and punch someone three times, and just say he looked at me funny so I 'thought' he was going to hit me, if I don't get let off then everyone should be up in arms.

Can we get a re-trial in Manchester or London please?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Doesn't the jury get summoned from all around and not the city where the trial takes place?

Re: Liverpool Thread

So really the jury could've in fact came from Manchester then...

Re: Liverpool Thread

They could have up until they ask each person during the final selection process 'do you think you'll be able to fairly judge this case blah blah' and all the mancs say 'yeah' and the defence objects to all of those people being part of the jury.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It shouldn't come down to Mancs and Scousers though, at the end of the day he's attacked another man and it's ended up with his mates all piling in then he's given some lame ass self defence bullshit in court and got off scot free. Like I said, the guy's looked up to by kids, I mean they were outside wanting his autograph, what sort of message does this send? It just makes a mockery of everything, this country's kids are bad enough as it is and things like this don't encourage it to get any better.

Re: Liverpool Thread

So should Roy Keane have been punished for fighting in hotels and bars? I wonder if he got taken to court at the time, whether the attitude from United fans would've been the same then ...

Re: Liverpool Thread

I like Gerrard as a player but there is no way on this earth that he can be not guilty. Ok he didn't start the fight, that was one of his "mates" wading in with the elbow but to the punch the guy 3 times (at least) and then call it self defence....well its a shocking verdict. If that had been me, I would be behind bars by now...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Cantona didn't get off you cock do you know fuck all??,He was originally given a prison sentence and then on appeal given community service.

so he was given community service for drop kicking a supporter live on telivision with children a few feet away.

Sounds like he got away with it.

I doubt Eric was under the influence of Alcohol either.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He was also banned for 9 months and fined don't forget, at least they acknowledged he was guilty.

There's a big difference between kicking a BNP supporter that spouting racist abuse at you and throwing punches at a DJ for not letting you choose the music, not to mention that fact Gerrard was with a gang and didn't have to get involved in the affray.

Who does the DJ think he is, not letting the mighty Stevie G choose the music.
