Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Huddlestone aint a bad shout, and he'd be cheap too, the fact that liverpool plays 2 defensive mids would make it easier for him too, he'll have masch next to him, instead of being left alone to hold if we played a 4-4-2

Re: Liverpool Thread

also, am i the only person who thinks that Benitez missed a trick not bidding for Fortune before he went to celtic? i really like the look of him, and would've been ideal for a back-up to torres

Re: Liverpool Thread

Gerrard and Carragher are his only English colleagues, it wouldn't be too bad

Are you sure?! One will be getting it on with the bridesmaids behind the altar whilst in the middle of the ceremony and the other will get in a fight with the dj/band at the reception :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

nah, staying away from Downing is a good move, he has confidence issues, and is too much of a risk, even at 12m that is overpriced IMO.

Huddlestone I would buy, he's is immensley talented. Strong, comftable on the ball, a good passer and ENGLISH. He'd flourish under Rafa in our team IMO. Could pick him up on the cheap.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Alonso had his wedding in Spain, he is on extra holiday because of the confed, All the others are back in Switzerland for intensive pre season training, they wouldn't have the time to go.

The other Spanish lads, I'm not sure, but Nando is obviously busy with Ollala and his new Sprog ;)

Mascherano's wife is also about to give birth.

However, yes I'm starting to think we are losing the Alonso standoff. I just wish he'd come out and catergorically state he wants to leave. Stop fucking everyone about, we are running out of time to purchase replacements.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Andriy Voronin and Krisztian Nemeth start up front for Liverpool in their first pre-season friendly against St Gallen this evening - a match you can watch live only on Liverpoolfc.tv from 7pm BST.
Glen Johnson will make his debut later in the game, with Benitez expected to change his side completely at half-time.

The starting XI is: Cavalieri, San Jose, Degen, Insua, Carragher, Spearing, Gerrard, El Zhar, Babel, Voronin, Nemeth.

Those expected to feature in the second half are: Martin, Darby, Skrtel, Johnson, Kelly, Plessis, Pacheco, Benayoun, Lucas, Ngog, Gulacsi, Ayala, Kuyt.

Looking forward to seeing Nemeth and what kind of shape Voronin is in as well. Good to see Spearing feature as well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good start by Babel, showing a lot of determination to run at people :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Pleased with Spearing, Insua and Voronin during that half. Nemeth didn't have many chances unfortunately. Looking forward to seeing Pacheco now :D

No where else to put this really , but mOe over at TLW , who is straight up and knows his stuff has said the following -

Hi Peeps,

Ian Ayre is on his way to Madrid to finalise the Alonso transfer. Xabi will not travel with the squad to Asia.

The fee is not yet clear but it should be upwards of 25 million quid. The original decision was to hold out for 30, but time is a vital factor in re-shaping the first team, and Rafa felt he needed to act quickly.

The complete funds will be given to Rafa to re-invest, on top of what he already has.

Xabi has made it clear that he will no longer play for Liverpool (or Benitez I guess), and with that in mind, there was no alternative. He wanted to leave. Whether it's because of what happened last season is unclear, but it's a move back to his home country, it's Real's new galactico era and so it must have been really tempting for him.

One of my favourite players, and the memories of watching him controlling games at Anfield will stay with me forever.

On a positive note, negotiations have begun on the Chief's new contract. He should sign a new three year deal which sees him double his wages.

Just read that on RAWK...

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good game :)

Johnson was very impressive, Plessis and Kelly looked accomplished, Pacheco showed a lot of talent but does seem to be a bit selfish which is expected for a kid I suppose.

Happy with how that went :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Jesus wept.

what?

he never controlled games?

Fulham Away, 2004.

2-0 down, on comes Alonso, 4-2, every goal was created by a Xabi assist or key pass.

Seem to remember a sublime performance at Anfield against a certain Manchester club this year :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

hopefully! really rate him, shame his spell at Blackpool didnt work out (injury) the experience would have done him good.

Re: Liverpool Thread

i don't think Nemeth is even close to good enough for the first team yet. He's not strong enough and is out fo position all the time. Pacheco is too greedy and makes bad decisions, neither are good enough yet, they might get there soon but definitely not yet.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Looks like the Aquilani stories are hotting up, now we've apparantly sent an agent to make a £15m offer.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Reports in Italy state the Aquilni deal will be done by Monday....18 mill EUR

Hungarian quintet in Liverpool trials
15.07.09 | Ian Ferris
The agent of five Hungarian players, Tibor Pataky, claims Liverpool boss Rafa Bebitez has offered trials to goalkeeper Attila Abu, midfielders Krisztian Adorjan and Patrik Vass, striker Peter Horvath and defender Patrik Poor, who are all currently playing in the youth academy at MTK Budapest.

"All of the players have been observed at least three times by a Liverpool scout, what's more at the end of May the new director of the Liverpool Academy, Frank McParland, went to Hungary to check the players' abilities," the agent told Pepsifoci.

"He invited five players to Liverpool. Krisztian Adorjan and Patrik Vass go to Liverpool for the second time, a year-and-a-half ago they trained with the youth team of Liverpool and played a game in England."

That's quite cheap for a player who has only signed a new contract a couple of months ago.

I'd be happy to bring him in, but there's no guarantee he'll do it in our league, he looks decent in Italy and he's at a good age to switch to the Premier League, so here's hoping...
