According to The Times, Xabi Alonso is going to Madrid. In fact, he is not even going to travel with us to Malasia.
Rafa is not going to block the transfer if Madrid offers 37m € and Xabi tells in public that he is willing to play in Madrid.
For hes replacement, we are being link with Aquilani. Altough I would put all those 37m € and go straight for De Rossi but he is a loyal player and wants to play all his career at Rome.

Reading around a few places and it does look like Alonso will be leaving unfortunately. I'm not totally clued up on European football to know the likes of D'Agostino, Aquilani or De Rossi but I have faith in Rafa replacing him with someone with quality

Right now the only player that is at level of Xabi is De Rossi .. I think that there is noone else better at his level or better than him.

Real Madrid knows that he wants to leave and is going to take advantage of this situation .. at least we should include Negredo in the operation so to have the alternative, if we dont find a good replacemente for Xabi, of Gerrard back at the midfield.

de rossi is not a playmaker... actually there's not a specific english word to describe his role (in italian his role is described as "metodista")..... we might say he's an essien type of player, but that wouldn't be really appropriate aswell (as essien doesn't really fit in the metodista role)... people usually compare de rossi and essien just coz they can absolve the same duties (de rossi being much better than essien in some of em), but in both cases (essien's and de rossi's) their skills and abilities don't really define their own roles.
daniele is, beyond any doubt, the best player in the world in his role (he's pretty much what buffon is for goalkeepers or what pirlo is for deep lying playmakers).... but he's not a deep-lyng playmaker like xabi. among the central midfielders who aren't pure playmakers, he's one of the very best passers, but yet, he's not a specialist in this department.
aquilani isn't a deep lying playmaker either. once again there's not a specific english role to describe his role (seriously guys the english football dictionary is soo poor
). his role is some sort of a a variation on the theme of an advanced midfielder.... pretty much like iniesta (in italian theese kind of players are called "mezz'ali" wich is something different from the proper advanced midfielder, which is usually called "trequartista").
however he's an extraordinary player, but he doesn't play in the same role (neither in the same position) of xabi, so he couldn't take his place.
Frangoitia, i wouldn't say he's inconsistant... infact he's been absolutely great on a pretty constant basis whenever he played..... the thing is he doesn't really play that much as he's more fragile than a crystal glass: as a matter of fact in each of the last 4 seasons he had at least 1 long term injury (by long term i mean a + 3 months injury).
and this is the reason why he disappeared from the top clubs radar... quality wise he should be extremely expensive (almost on the same line of price of iniesta)..... but given his fragility, who would ever spend such a huge amount of money on a player who skipped at least 3 months of football in each of the last 4 seasons?
as for d'agostino, well he's a proper deep-lying playmaker... he's a bit different from xabi though.
concerning his ability to change the tempo of the plays, he's pretty much on par with xabi,
concerning the ability to read the play he's almost on par with xabi (wich means that he's not as good as xabi, but still very, very good),
also in terms of pure passing skills, he's very, very good, but not really on the same level of xabi (at least imo).
even though he's a proper deep lying playmaker, he ventures foward much more than xabi, has a better shooting ability than xabi and i believe he's also slightly better in "seeing the last pass line" (u might call it "assist-providing ability").... this is due to the fact that years ago he used to play as an advanced midfielder.
given the choice between xabi and d'agostino, i would pick xabi... d'agostino proved himself as a fantastic player in the last 2 seasons, and today he's just 1 step behind the "big guns" in his role (like pirlo, xavi and xabi himself)... but (that's just my personal opinion though) i don't see him making that last step. i think this is the best he can do.
however, if u'll loose xabi, then there aren't better replacement than d'agostino available out there.... at least unless u go for pirlo.
anyhow there's always the same (big) question mark: we're talking about a player who never experienced the pressure and the expectations of a top club like liverpool, so no one could possibly say if he can handle it.

Call me stupid, but I'd love to see Rafa try to convert Huddlestone into a top class player. He surely has the talent.

Yeah he'd be worth a shot, he's certainly got a good pass on him. Maybe he's got a poor attitude or something though and that's why he doesn't get too many games for Tottenham and why he's only ever linked with clubs like Fulham etc.

completely agree with u about lucho... probably one of the most underrated players in europe in his role.
...his shooting skill, his timing in pushing foward, his physical presence at midfield, his heading... he's better than masherano in many departments to be fair.

Think Mascherano is surprising strong when you consider his size. But yeah, De Rossi offers a lot more going forward.
Think Huddlestone is a beastly passer. Amazing range of passes, and he's pretty big as well. Just don't trust him now to run a game like Xabi does.
Think with Masch, what you need is a pure playmaker, but it seems there really arn't many out there. Really, there's so little options you don't see the point of losing Xabi. Really can't think of that many options. Maybe someone like Cambiasso, who's not really a playmaker (but seems to do that for Inter an awful lot). Atleast till Lucas steps up. Or someone like Juninho.
Wish we have our eyes on Huddlestone though. Makes it so much easier to buy English. We'll always be their biggest club.

It's all came from Balague's post on his website last week which said he thinks Alonso has told Benitez he wants to go.
Once Balague says something, the Daily Mail prints it as if it's actual news. The fact is it's been a long time since Balague said anything about Liverpool that was proven to be true.

I've been watching Huddlestone since he was 16.
I've seen him play in the flesh a few times as well.
He's been overlooked strangely by 'Arry in the Tottenham team, Jol turned him from raw talent into a really good player.
With the right application, he will surely become a class player.

Yeh. He was so good under Jol, and was convinced he'd be top class. I'd go far as to say, that his actual weight of the pass, and accuracy is just as good as Xabi. What he doesn't have is Xabi's ability to dictate a game, and that's what we'll lack.
But certainly think Rafa could do wonders with him. He's got the passing, he's strong, and a decent header (and tall), and reads the game pretty well. We'd probably get him for cheap as well.

Its done. Xabi Alonso is leaving for 35 m €. And now Rafa really wants David Silva. I think Gerrard is probably going back to the midfield and play with Mascherano. And David Silva is going to play with Torres.
If it turns well is not going to be a bad move. Alonso is 27 and Silva is 23.

I like Huddlestone too I just think he lacks the pace to play in a top 4 side. Unless he did a Molby
Oh also Downing to Villa for £12m is a steal and I definately would have taken him for that. Think we missed a trick there.
