Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

And people thought Forlan was useless and look that how that turned out. Funny ol' game, huh?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Torres was 'overrated' when he was at Atletico and look how that turned out!
Torres was like a hundred times better when he was in Atletico that Aguero now. Trust me, Im argentinian so I know him, it would be a horrible buy for you guys. He is not worth 52m € as Fergui wants to offer, he doesnt worth more than 20m €.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Interesting you say that, from what I've seen he's better than what Torres was at the same age. I actually think he's the best young player out their. I think he'll end up playing for you lot to be honest and probably become the BPITW.

Yes, very good.

No, he is never going to play for us. He s too overpriced and overrated and, as he is argentinian, he is always partying.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Just wondering who here is happy with just signing Johnson and going into the next season with the same squad (with Voronin, Charles etc being sold).

If I had the choice, I'd fast forward straight to the start of the season. Absolutely delighted with the squad we add, and I'd want us to keep all our players. Johnson would provide a new attacking dimension against the weaker teams, and I'd hope to see Babel and Riera step up like Yossi and Dirk did.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm happy with Johnson, and I believe we will make one more big signing but no idea who that'll be.

I do think we could do with someone else in attacking midfield or a forward though. Far too many times we came up against teams parking the bus and we ran out of ideas on how to get through them. We probably need another Benayoun-esque player I guess.

I think signing Johnson goes a long way towards that already. And we don't need another player if Benayoun keeps up his form in the latter part of the season (where we won most of our games).

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm definately happy with the attacking threat of Johnson, Arbeloa is a very good defender but not so great attacking so Johnson's a good signing in that respect.

Not sure Benayoun is at the quality needed to unlock the tightest defences, he's a good player and all but personally he's not the best we can get to do that role.

I'm not massively up on world football to suggest who that player might be unfortunately but I'm sure you (Abhi) and a few others like Lo Zio would have players in mind that I'm referring to.

Edit: Maybe a player similar to Arshavin?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Im also happy with our squad, as I said before this year with Ancelloti in Chelsea and Manchester without Ronaldo, Im absolutely sure that we are going to win the Premier. I just hope we dont sell Xabi Alonso and Mascherano.
Adding to our team Mata would be great, just as Nando recommended to Rafa. I would prefer Mata rather than Silva, who is also an excellente player but he is often injured and he is inconsistent.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I've heard quite a lot of people say they'd prefer Mata over Silva, interesting!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeh Mata's much more consistent performer but then Silva's the more talented of the two.

I'll tell you this much, I don't think there's a player in Europe who we can get realistically, who's been better than Yossi since the New Year.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah Yossi is massively underrated, he's not one of the world's elite and he's unlikely to win many personal awards but he's still a good skilful player who works hard for the team and CAN pull you out of tight spots with a moment of skill and determination (Fulham away is the perfect example). When I said he was good in here last season most of you said he wasn't up to it!

And the funny thing about that Torres comment about signing small players to breakdown teams that park the bus was that it came straight after Spain had failed to score against a defensive, counter attacking USA side and got knocked out of the tournament  Talk about bad timing.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Alonso is pissing me off now with his indecisiveness. He should respect the fans a bit more instead of pissing about saying he'd have no problems staying but wouldn't mind going to Madrid.

Make your mind up and decide one way or another. Doing my head in now, he's not bigger than the club and it's almost like he's playing the club off now. If he keeps this up then fuck him off to Madrid and get someone who respects the club and the fans a bit more.

Re: Liverpool Thread

 Now that you mention it, it does seem to strike a similarity to Ronaldo. I don't doubt that Alonso does want to play for Madrid, and when he's coming out about losing wages due to taxes and all that shite, it just makes me wonder why he doesn't just openly come out and say he wants to go.

I dunno, it seems pretty clear to me he doesn't want to be here if he can help it.

end of the day alonso has been a class player for us, and if he goes then fair enough

he has a job (end of the day that's all it is, you would want the best out of your situation in work wouldn't you?), and he is trying to make sure he does the best thing for him and his family so can't argue with that

you say he should respect the fans, i think he has been amazing for us, so we should respect him

not sure what personal problems he has in england or with liverpool, but all i know is he has given 100% for this club, been a good player and if he is looking to get more money or whatever i couldn't blame him for that

if he wants to move on, then fair enough but i wont hate him for it

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think you need to sell now rather than later if you want to replace him. We did really well with the Ronaldo deal getting it done and dusted early for us to take our time to find the player(s) needed to replace him.

I dont think that Alonso case can be compared with Ronaldo. He didnt try to force his way out like Ronaldo did, and he never said any comments like "White suits me great" and never behaved like a baby, just what Ronaldo did against City.

Re: Liverpool Thread

i felt like dags does now about alonso a couple seasons ago about ronaldo. now i feel like what you're saying, we dont own these people. we should be grateful for the happiness they've given us.

Don't get me wrong, he's been a brilliant player for us and he seems like a nice guy as well. I respect him an awful lot for what he's done for the club, as I'm sure most fans do.

And you're right about it being a job and wanting the best for his family, sure. But he needs to decide what he wants and come out and say it rather than putting out cryptic answers to questions etc. I think Rafa is going to have a word this week and get him to decide one way or another and I think we need to know sooner rather than later.

If he does want to go to Madrid then fine, let him go. He's a quality player but if he doesn't want to play for us then I'd rather we didn't keep him and replaced him with a player who did want to play for Liverpool.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Basically footballers get sick of seeing themselves in the same kit every week and fancy a change. Particurly players like Ronaldo, he'd never had move to Milan, because Red, Black and White was done to death over in Manchester ;)

I hold no resentment towards Alonso. Look at his quote in my sig to see what he thinks about our club. HOWEVER, sometimes people need a new challenge, sometimes they've delved so much into the financial lifestyle of the super rich, that a small hike in Tax is significant in their decision to play somewhere else. Personally I think he's staying, and wants to, but Rafa will sell for 35m+ upwards, with his hands tied somewhat by the owners.

if he comes out and says what he wants , it may not happen and he could be left in a difficult position.

especially with the media being involved best not saying to much and let things get settled behind closed doors, which i expect things to be further along than the press make out

think of ronaldo with him saying he will be a man utd player next season, all the fans were disappointed at least he isn't doing that to our fans

Re: Liverpool Thread

It seems that Juve is now ( again... ) joining the race for Xabi aswell....Hope we won't get him tbh, overpriced and overrated IMO.
