Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not sure why you'd want to get rid of Alonso to be honest. I feel your biggest strength is your midfield. It has just the right mix of power, skill and dirtyness. I don't think another top striker would be the answer as you'd then have to sacrifice either a midfielder or Kuyt who is a workhorse. For me, you should try and sign a relatively unknown big and powerful striker who won't mind being on the bench for a few years. Maybe you don't need anyone if N'gog can improve.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Xabi ain't going nowhere. Rafa has gone out of his way to mention that in the season review. Xabi stays scouse!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Depends if David Silva comes to Juve or not.
Apparently, Juve have made a deal with Pool stating that they will be the first team to be negotiated with IF Xabi can leave. The only reason Benitez mentioned to keep Xavi was because the deal with Barry was frozen at the time.
Apparently , this has changed over the last days. The future of Xavi will be decided by David Silva and Barry unfortunately

Re: Liverpool Thread

Haha mate, no idea how you came up with all that. And as far as I have read, it's Real who want Silva and Alonso, not Juve.

Xabi has said he wants to stay, Rafa has said he doesn't want to sell Xabi, his agent has said Xabi is happy. What more do you need?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Thats just the set-up for him to go isn't it?! Next week Somebody will be announcing the 25mil signing of Alonso.

Re: Liverpool Thread

If you would have better sources then you would know;
A) David Silva already has a pre agreement with Juve since January. Juve are still negotiating with Valencia cuz they have a ridiculous transfer fee. Juve is willing to go for EUR 19 mill and not more
B) Xavi does want to go to Real or Juve, and IS happy @ Liverpool if Barry doesn't come. If Barry comes, Xavi is out the door( for the highest bidder probably)
C) What did you expect? Xabi to say that he wants to leave ? Even last summer he also did not want to leave but that didn't stop him from having a medical check in Turin did it....If it weren't for Ranieri, Xabi would have been bianconeri already

Re: Liverpool Thread

Main difference is, Rafa, last season admitted he had to sell players to get money, and would sell Xabi if a good price was offered. This season, he's made absolutely clear, the Xabi is not for sale, that he won't sell key members of the squad, and he'll find other ways of making money than sell Xabi.

Re: Liverpool Thread

"The situation is clear, we do not want to sell our best players and that includes Xabi.

"He had a very good season for us and can be an important player in the future. There is no agreement with Real and we want him to be part of our plans going forward.

"Xabi himself told our club magazine only two weeks ago that he was looking forward to his sixth season as a Liverpool player. Why should he want to leave now?"

Benitez added: "Xabi's agent came to see me recently to talk about the future. It was a surprise for me and I pointed out to him there were three years left on Xabi's contract.

"I asked him if the player was happy in Liverpool and he said yes. It was a short meeting."

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not necessarily.

"I hope everything will be made clear but it depends on the club not on me.

He said he'd like to stay, but it's down to Napoli. Seen this happen loads of times where players don't want to appear disloyal to their fans and if they do leave, then they can say they never wanted to leave in the end.

I wouldn't count Lavezzi out, especially after that quote I posted. If he came out and said he's not leaving under any circumstances and Napoli have assured him he wont be sold, then sure. But when you say what he's said there, i'm not so sure he will stay.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Haven't they already rejected one big bid? I'd expect Rafa to not pay OTT and turn his attention to other options.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Lavezzi would cost to much, in the region of 25M, Are Babel and Lucas going then to make extra funds?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Babel is definately going, I can see Lucas leaving as well. Probably Dossena will leave and we'll have our summer kitty to spend as well as the money from the Keane deal which we didn't have time to spend.

Lots of rumours now that Owen is coming back on a pay-as-you-play deal as well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not sure how it would work, He'd be their for when Torres is injured but he'd probably be injured at the time aswell  But would be a good signing if its "pay as you play". Any potential wingers you lot going after?

Re: Liverpool Thread

He doesn't want to be Torres understudy/bag carrier right? Lots of bull to me :P

Babel will be gone certainly, hopefully not to any EPL teams. He'll be great with consecutive games under his belt, just didn't get the chance shine at all @ anfield. He AIN'T a bench player.

So I guess the initial 20 mil transfer kitty (without selling) was mostly from Keane's transfer.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Keanes transfer, 2nd place prize money, CL money....and thicks et gillet will obviously give some of their own private money to the kitty.

Silva and Lavezzi so far.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Qualiarella to Napoli..!

Lavezzi to Liverpool?!

just can't believe it...huge fan of his
although I didn't think rafa would go for such a player (doesnt fit his disciplinary focus)

Re: Liverpool Thread

I cant see confirmation of either of those anywhere? Where did you hear it?

edit: just seen about Fabio but still not about Lavezzi

Re: Liverpool Thread

Cruzeiro striker Kleber claims Liverpool have made an approach for his services.

The 25-year-old only returned to his homeland in February as part of a deal which took Guilerme to Dynamo Kiev.

Kleber had spent four years in Ukraine but headed back to South America in a move which also involved Cruzeiro receiving 5million euros (£4.3m) for their man.

He has now revealed that he is attracting interest from Europe once more, with Liverpool keen to take him to England.

"I have a proposal from Liverpool for 7million euros (£6m). We are analysing [it]" said the striker on SporTV's Arena programme in Brazil.

Kleber penned a five-year contract upon his return to Belo Horizonte and it appears he would rather see out that deal than take on a new challenge in the Premier League.

"I want to stay," he added.

"If Cruzeiro offer the same amount, or we talk, I'd prefer to stay. But we haven't talked yet".

The volatile frontman, who has also attracted interest from Everton in the past, has been a revelation since returning to Brazil, netting 19 goals in as many appearances for Cruzeiro.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good news for Pool fans (imo) - Gareth Barry is apparently sitting down with City to discuss a deal. Which hopefully says that you can keep Xabi, who is far better.

And it means city will be royally ripped off :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

I dont think it matters to City if they get ripped off so the Barry deal will be good for everyone involved including Liverpool.
