Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Im sure Real will give Liverpool something to think about with Alonso, ditto for Us, Milan and Bayern.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Nope Real are going after every big name player their is, Ronaldo is the obvious one for them, Im sure their after Alonso aswell.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think Real will definately put in a bid for Alonso, and if he does leave then I think it'll be his decision to and not Rafa's.

Can't see him leaving unless it's over £25m, not sure Real will want to pay that when they're concentrating more on Ronaldo and Ribery.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well if you look at it financially, it will probably be either Ronaldo going to Madrid or both Ribery and Alonso. I cant see them making another big signing along with Ronaldo.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I thought he was the one who wanted to stay last summer? And Rafa wanted Barry instead and when that fell through you kept Alonso?

Correct. But Rafa has said numerous times that Alonso is in his plans and he won't be selling him, with Alonso also saying he wants to stay.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Let's hope so. And thats also shown Barry's true colours; "I want to move on for CL football. Sorry what?! 100.000 a week? Oh yeah, uuuhh, forget the first bit."

:D

Re: Liverpool Thread

That must have felt like a new signing for yourself. ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

WTF? ONLY 12 Million for Barry? We could've got him for our Left Back position :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

12 million and he's what? 28? Thank God City splurged and not us. As for Mr Alonso - he seems a very balanced individual on and off the pitch, with impressive English. I doubt very much he'd move on unless forced or due to age/diminishing ability. Alonso is a different type of midfielder to Barry but if you gave me the choice it would be Alonso every time. Besides, we've had moneygrabbers before - yes I'm looking at you, sicknote Kewell!

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm sure if you guys had snatched up Barry for 12 million you would be singing another song.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I doubt it, it would mean Alonso was being sold and I think nearly all Liverpool fans prefer Alonso to Barry.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Me for starters. Too many loose/stray balls from Barry.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Alonso is better, but Barry is more versatile player. bit like comparing Carrick and Hargreaves

Re: Liverpool Thread

Bet you guys are glad Rafa didnt get his way last season then. Or was it Parry's idea?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Who knows, but Alonso didn't show the effort that season like this season. He was pretty pedestrian. How old is Alonso? 26, 27?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I still will hope to see how you handle the Madrid circus when it comes calling for Alonso.

Re: Liverpool Thread

LIVERPOOL are set to launch a £2million bid to sign Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez is in the market for a new centre-back following the departure of Sami Hyypia to Bayer Leverkusen and believes the 31-year-old Frenchman fits the bill.

Distin only has one year left on his contract at Fratton Park and recently admitted his future was uncertain.

“Right now I expect to be here next season but I’m not in touch with anyone and tomorrow things can change,” he said.

“There may be a new manager with his players and I won’t play. A lot of things can happen in the coming months.

Not exactly world class or Hyypia but he'll do I guess.
