Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

"Yes, yes, yes, you had a good season Liverpool but please stop talking about how pleased you are because we've done better so look at us! LOOK AT US! TALK ABOUT US PLEASE!"

I think that's been the running point through this thread since Utd won the league. No matter how many times Liverpool fans take positives from our season and say we're pleased with the performance, VERY shortly after a Utd fan pops in to compare us to Utd and try to switch the attention over to Utd instead ;)

not bad but I prefer your earlier work....

Re: Liverpool Thread

Seriously, what's your problem? I'm beginning to think you're stalking me as you pretty much quote me everytime you post in here. :SS

Pretty much bordering on trolling as none of your posts are ever constructive and pretty much always trolling and/or digs.

Maybe time for the ignore list to be activated again, just like the days of Plan M. And he wasn't as annoying as your posts are either which says something.

not bad, but not good..

maybe youve used up your comedy quota...

Re: Liverpool Thread

One in the bin for me :)

It's a debate dags, I say leave them be. Their team is the champions, so they've the right to say "the rest sucks". But when it's our turn, don't think you'll see us doing that in MU's thread.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Leave him be, he's an attention-deficient lad. Don't respond to these people, I pity them really.

Any of you got any info about Leto? He's not making any noises in Olympiakos despite playing 30 games for them. This season is about wingers, I think Ngog will stay and actually a great player to bring off the bench.

Re: Liverpool Thread

apparently Rafa really likes Leto.

I can see what he sees in him, but, at the moment Reira is still the better player, but Leto has alot to offer in my opinion as an understudy, quite similar in style too. Apprently he's been great at Olympiakos. (as has Matt Derbyshire!)

Ngog will defo stay in my opinion, and I agree, a good option, he has scored whenever he has been given the chance, he has pace, is relatively strong, and can hold the ball up well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ngog to be fair is a decent young player, a bit of work in the gym and he can become a good player for you.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, I can see Ngog becoming a good player. He's not going to be Henry or anything but he'll be useful as he's got some good attributes.

Haven't seen much of Leto but Rafa was saying about players being sold and he said it'll probably be players on loan, although wasn't Leto only out on loan because he couldn't get a work permit for us?

Re: Liverpool Thread

RYAN BABEL could become the first high-profile casualty of Rafael Benitez’s summer shake-up after being told he can leave Liverpool.

Babel’s agent Winnie Haatrecht met with the Anfield manager to discuss the player having a more prominent first-team role next season.

Benitez, though, was unable to offer such guarantees and has informed the Holland international he may now speak to other clubs during the transfer window.

That is likely to spark a chase for Babel, who became the third-most expensive player in Liverpool’s history when arriving for £11.5million from Ajax in July 2007.

Liverpool will want to recoup of much as that fee as possible, with Babel likely to command a price tag of around £8m.

Ajax, who yesterday appointed Martin Jol as new coach to succeed Marco van Basten, are thought eager to re-sign Babel but could be put off by the asking price and the player’s wages.

Babel is also certain to attract interest from Italy and Spain, with Benitez open to the possibility of using the 22-year-old as a makeweight to facilitate a possible big-money transfer.

Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Arsenal have all been linked with a summer move for Babel and could make any interest formal.

Babel has scored 14 goals in 91 appearances for Liverpool. However, only 42 have been in a starting role – a mere six coming this calendar year – with the Dutchman having completed the full 90 minutes on just 15 occasions.

With Benitez needing to generate funds to supplement his existing transfer budget, the Spaniard is keen to swiftly move on those players who no longer form part of his plans.

“We have some targets but right now it is too soon because some clubs do not know what the future holds for them but we will wait and see,” said the Liverpool manager.

“But our idea is to have players signed before pre-season begins because this would be perfect.

“It means you can start working with them and training with them with the ideas that you want to get across to them so that they can start putting them into practice on the pitch.”

Benitez also wants to solve the work permit problem for Argentine winger Sebastian Leto, who has spent the last season on loan to Greek club Olympiacos.

“We will try to work something out, I do not want him to go,” said the Liverpool manager.

The reasons for refusing the permit were his lack of international and club experience.

Benitez was critical of that decision, but is likely to sell Leto if the permit is refused once again.

Kinda sad as I think Babel is very talented but just not sure whether he's working as a Liverpool player, or has adapted to the English league well enough.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's a funny one - I really thought he was going to Arsenal and was going to do really well there. I just think he needs a chance. He was awesome before he moved, really looked one of the top teenagers in the world. He's also grown up a lot physically, is a big lad now. Will be interesting to watch his development.

Also agree that N'Gog might turn out to be a good player, but needs more game time. If you get in another striker, I'd send him on loan til xmas to a low table team, see what he's made of.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think Babel's mentality has been his major downfall at us. He's never really seemed confident and his head has dropped far too much.

i think you're right. if you look at any successful players they all have the confidence and desire whether they're a star player or a workhorse, if you look at babel its obvious he doesnt.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Too shy/humble and lacks the intelligence aswell. Shame as he has the physical ability to be one of the worlds best. Although I would give him another year tbh.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Wasn't it to 2013 anyway though?

Athletic Bilbao insist they have received no approach from Liverpool for Javi Martinez.

The midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield of late, with Rafa Benitez reported to be ready to return to Spain in search of new recruits.

The Reds are believed to have had scouts run the rule over 20-year-old Martinez on a number of recent outings, and have been suitably impressed by what they have seen.

A big-money move has been widely touted, but Bilbao claim no such offer has been forthcoming.

"We know there is interest from some clubs in Javi Martinez, and that Liverpool have sent scouts to matches, but the club has received no bids," a spokesman for the Basque club told skysports.com.
History

"We have no intention of selling him, but it is normal that we will study any offers that are made."

Martinez, meanwhile, has admitted that he would welcome the prospect of a switch to Anfield.

"The rumours are not affecting me. I am very calm," he said.

"If an offer is received, then I will speak with the club.

"Liverpool are a great club with a great history and any player would like to be in their squad."

Anyone know much about him? We've been linked to him for a while now.

Re: Liverpool Thread

seen him play a few times, as Bilbao get a lot of games shown on SKY.

He's tall, technical, can pass and often does some very damaging surging runs from midfield. He has been compared to Viera.

A cross between Alonso and Gerrard

And yes, we have been constantly linked throughout the year, and I'd put money on it happening....IF Alonso or Lucas goes.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Fuck me that would be amazing if you sell Alonso. Especially after the season he's had.

Re: Liverpool Thread

all depends on what money gets offered. anything over 25m and I'd be tempted, anything less and they can take a running jump.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Im getting the impression Alonso has put in the effort this season to prove how good he is and increase the amount of clubs that would want him. Last season he was pedestrian and didn't put that much effort in, so it wasn't too odd to want to sell him for a good offer. Im sure he was pissed off with Rafa and this was his best way to get back. So even though he is class I wouldnt be surprised to see him go, after all Rafa has said "We don't want him to go" instead of "He is going nowhere".

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good point Tik. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go although I wouldn't be happy about it. As Petrov said, £25m and fair enough but I wouldn't want less than that for him.

And he better not go to Chelsea either, after reading that Ancelotti recommended Alonso and Ribery to Abramovich when they met not long back.
