Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I would have thought Keane would've been perfect against the "weaker" clubs

It's like Ronaldo, or whoever else with tricks up their sleeves, obviously it's easier to pull them off against Turner than Vidic for example

That's where these guys build their confidence and rack up some goals/assists

Re: Liverpool Thread

The possible reason for leaving Keane on the bench is that he played the full 90min midweek and they are resting him for Arsenal. But then there's a whole weeks worth of rest between the matches and those last 15/20min wouldnt do much harm either.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Watching matches like the Hull one this weekend - do any of you wonder if Gerrard is so effective because he doesn't have the tactical discipline to play exactly how Rafa wants? You could practically see the reigns on the other midfielders...

That's a very good point, and I tend to think you're right.

I do think Rafa needs to let the players have a bit more freedom with their style, especially with creativity and attacking plays in general.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It just seems to me that if you set up your team like this:
-----------Reina-----------
-Arbeloa-Carra-Agger-?!?!?-
---------Macherano---------
-Kuyt-----Gerrard---Riera--
----------Keane------------
----------Torres-----------

Kuyt and Riera both track back well, and Chelsea have shown for years that you can get by with just one good DMF who is regimented, and Mach is probably the best left in world football. You let Torres worry the defence and keep them honest and deep, freeing up space for both Keane who can move from left to right as needed, and also for an unrushing Gerrard. Your full backs are naturally hesitant, so the defence doesn't lose its shape, and its not a big problem to leave Gerrard, Keane and Torres all up front for the majority of the match.

But Rafa much prefers to make sure that he has 6 men back at all times, and in the end that stifles the team. He plays football by numbers, and to be fair this season his numbers have come off a few times. But it doesn't have that spark, and I really think you have the players...

:LMAO: Did you just compare Keane to Ronaldo with him being as skillfull

That formation wouldnt work Beachryan for a number of reasons. Its slightly to attack minded. Alonso is a must to start, probably move Gerrard into Keane's position and slot Alonso alongside Masch or just infront.

Re: Liverpool Thread

hahaha it's not like ronaldo is skillful anyway it's all athleticism and ridiculous bursts of speed oh yeah and diving

i would not call ronaldo skillful though he has skills and the ability to beat players

i would say the burb is skillful (these are all extremes, obviously)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Mark Lawrenson is a muppet.

Liverpool have denied that striker Robbie Keane will leave the club in the January transfer window.

Keane joined Liverpool in the summer for £20.3million from Tottenham but has scored just four goals in all competitions since his arrival.

The striker's patience appears to be on the wane after a number of appearances that have ended with Keane being substituted just after the hour mark despite fellow striker Fernando Torres out with a hamstring injury.

After an impressive display against PSV in the UEFA Champions League last week, Keane found himself on the bench for the 2-2 draw with Hull.

In spite of the fact that Liverpool were chasing a winner manager Rafael Benitez opted to keep the 28-year-old on the bench for the whole game.

Former Liverpool player turned pundit Mark Lawrenson has intensified the rumours that Keane will be leaving the club in the transfer window.

"I hate to name drop," Lawrenson told The Last Word on Today FM. "But I was having a drink with (Steven) Gerrard on Saturday and we talked about Keane.

"They share the same agent [Struan Marshall] and quite honestly he thinks something is going to happen with Keane in January. Sounds like he could be moved on."

However the club have hit back and released a statement denying that Keane was set to be sold.

"Mark Lawrenson's remarks are his interpretation of a private chat between the two of them," raid the statement.

"They do not accurately reflect Steven's opinion of Robbie Keane and they certainly do not tally with Steven's recollection of the conversation itself."

Your kidding surely...

Re: Liverpool Thread

you dont think his moves are forced? it looks unnatural, partly because he does them so fast, but also because he doesnt have as much skill as those who make it look easy

it's hard to explain

Re: Liverpool Thread

Ronaldo aint that skillful, he's no Messi is he! He's better than most though. His best attributes are his pace and power.

Regarding Keane....

Lawro said:
"I'm sorry if it caused any aggravation but it wasn't meant to. Steven Gerrard's name should never have come up in terms of Robbie Keane going in January. It wasn't Steven saying that it was me saying it.

"The only connection I was making between the two was that they have the same agent and I have had a hunch for a while that Keane could go.

"But that is my opinion and nothing whatsoever to do with any conversations I had with Steven Gerrard.

"I happened to mention I spoke to him on Saturday night but I didn't mean for that to come across in the way that it has been interpreted."

Blatant backtrack cos he's in trouble for blurting.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Erm. No. Love him or hate him, to deny that Ronaldo is one of the most skillful players in the world is just stupid. Have you ever watched videos of him practicing?

The difference is that he doesn't use that many 'skill' moves anymore, as they're not the most effective use of his time. It's not that he can't still do them.

This is the point I was going to make. If you remember when he joined us, in his first couple of seasons, he would demonstrate his skills A LOT on the pitch. Sometimes too much. Since he's matured, he doesn't use them anywhere near as much as he did in the past.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Exactly, He's changed his game so much since (too much imo) and needs to find a balance from how he plays now to that explosive winger he used to be.

Shaolin soccer became Jeet kun do soccer. :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

dude, all he want is to play for real madrid where he can get paid more than that. i think your maths is sucks

lol true

edit: Real Madrid!!! Could have been worse, but they will be a completely different team...tricky. Hopefully Ramos fucks it up (starting in the January window). This is Rafa's territory, however--I got a pretty good feeling for this one. Oh and here's to a swift recovery(where's the beer smiley?!)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Probably a good draw for Liverpool, they will be the underdogs for this one which suits us fine.

Not sure how many English teams will go through, would expect Arse to progress, same for Manu. Chelsea have been poor this season and Juve are pretty strong. Real are still really strong even if they do suit liverpools tactics.

Re: Liverpool Thread

yeah.. unlike ronaldo, who wants to leave.. hahaha.. i think you're the plank.. slave is not about the payment, it's about how you've been treat. it's the truth i'm talking about.. another word "FACT!"

The truth? What are you, his agent? How do you know he wants to leave ATM? I saw him getting interviewed after the Osaka game and he said he was happy atm. Slave is not about the payment? You think Ronaldo is being treated like a slave? You must be retarded then, I can imagine the black African people who were subject to slavery in the past turning in their grave after hearing your BS. He gets paid around about £100,000 a week to kick a ball, he has something known as a CONTRACT with Manchester United. Ever heard of it? Do you think Ferguson will actually get bullied by Real Madrid to sell his BEST player, one of the BEST footballers in the world? If he does sell him, which he probably will sometime in the future, he'll choose the right time to sell him. You must be a 10 year old judging by your ridiculous spelling and your lack of any common sense or logic...
