Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

For fucks sake.

Absolutely toothless and COMPLETELY lacking up front.

Is Keane one of our worst signings? Fifteen games and one goal? At least Crouch offered in other areas when he went through the barren run of not scoring but Keane offers nothing whatsoever.

Pissed off.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Although you battered us for pretty much most of the match, I can never remember playing a Liverpool team (especially at your gaff) who have offered so little in terms of a cutting edge.

Think you fellas need Torres back asap - big time.

Re: Liverpool Thread

BIG BIG time.

And that's the worrying thing, we shouldn't have to rely on Torres. We've beaten the likes of Man Utd and Everton without Torres, we can score.

I really wish Gerrard would stop thinking he's some kind of superhero and give up having twenty no-hoper shots from outside the area.

And that knob who does the Liverpool impersonations needs to do one as well, he's getting everywhere you turn and it's not funny after hearing it for the hundredth time.

It's also annoying me reading other Liverpool fans going on about us still being top of the league and we should be happy. At the end of the season, we'll look back on 0-0 draws at home to Stoke, Fulham and West Ham and I'm VERY sure those points will cost us when the final league table is shown. Top of the table now doesn't mean anything when the likes of Man Utd have already played most of their hardest games away and are still up there yet we can't finish teams off at home.

Re: Liverpool Thread

question!!!

why bring ngog on for keane?

would babel be a top player if he was playing for arsenal under wenger?

as for the match, well wasn't until the last 15 minutes it looked like we wanted it.. why take until then

URGENCY!

everything was square tonight and easy to defend, we lacked cutting edge big time..

and what about that left back for westham HOW MANY HANDBALLS LOL

Re: Liverpool Thread

One more thing - what the fuck is it with some of your lot booing your team off at full time?
This is no dig at your mob, just football fans nowadays.

It's worse at West Ham - that's why I don't ever bother going over the Boleyn anymore... I'm just sick of the way fans have become with all the prices paid and demand for success etc

You are top of the league for christ sakes!

Re: Liverpool Thread

As much as I don't advocate booing and it is wrong, I can understand their frustration. We should've easily beaten WH tonight given the domination we had and it's REALLY frustrating to drop ANOTHER two points because we lack that cutting edge to carve teams open.

We're not top of the league because we're playing well, we're top because Chelsea and United have dropped points which isn't their usual style. Everyone knows Chelsea and United will come good and will start caning teams soon enough and probably wont lose much.

Meanwhile most people expect Liverpool to not keep this up and expect us to finish third or fourth. We'll only have ourselves to blame because we've managed to get to top place by beating United and Chelsea, as well as Everton which is always a difficult game, but then we drop points to teams people would expect us to win.

Teams don't win the league by getting so many 0-0's at home. It's all good being top now but if this keeps up, we'll be lucky to finish third.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well I have to say I was routing for you guys to win (seeing as the missus is a Liverpool fan) and I was suprised you came up short. As Dags has said you dont win league titles if you draw home games which should be 3 point bankers. :(

Re: Liverpool Thread

Me said:
Looking at the fixtures we should be able to keep this up till the end of dec, thats when we play Arsenal. The rest of the fixtures should be wins.

Sorry lads, think I jinxed us :(

I really don't get why Ngog comes on for Keane, he's a donkey with little control, not enough pace and not enough strenght to be the target man. Atleast Keane offers some pace/control around the area, feel a bit sorry for him really, he had no chance tonight with 2/3 players around him all the time and gerrard playing too deep. And then he gets subbed for Ngog,....hope its down to keeping him fresh for the upcoming games.

It was probably a fair result in the end, for all our domination we had.....how many clear chances? A couple of headers from corners was about it. Tactics were off today, Kuyt was running around as usual leaving Keane alone, neither Beni Noon or Reina were helping him out so all the crosses were pretty pointless. This was probably a game that would have suited Crouch, or even Babel on earlier. He's pretty strong in the air and has pace and a good shot. Babel had about 5 touches in the 15min. he was on, no wonder he's getting frustrated when 10min. earlier Ngog gets put on instead.

There also seems to be a different tactic used now, earlier in the season we ended these matches with 4/5 strikers with the substitutions replacing defenders.

he's scored 4 mate.

I also think we miss Crouch for these sorts of games.

We've missed several chances to really go clear at the top, however, if you told me in August that we'd be a point clear going into December I would have bit your hand off. If this is a blip then...we can only really get better can't we?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think the concern is that a good deal of your 3-pointers at the start of the season were far from convincing. So the naysayers would actaully argue those were the blips, not now :(

Personally I see no reason why you can't be thereabouts in April. What's going to be key is how Rafa balances his priorities. When you'ev got a big knock out CL on a Tuesday and a prem match with a midtable side late on Sunday, it's tough decision time. Personally I think Pool will only win the league if they get knocked out of the CL and FA Cup early-ish.

Re: Liverpool Thread

if you look at the teams liverpool have played , the teams utd, arsenal and chelsea have played

ok i havn't looked into this much myself so i may not be to accurate but i think they have probably had tougher games, in terms of playing top 10 teams

now if that is the case then we should be making the most of our fixtures to gain some momentum and put the pressure on the pack and we have scraped our way through teams we should be walking through

going to be an interesting year for alot of teams

Re: Liverpool Thread

tougher teams is a understatement for us. We've played the top 10 from last year already i think (may be 1-2 off) and the top 3 away from home.

Re: Liverpool Thread

exactly my point...

it will all balance itself out at the end of the season, this is why most fans are probably pissed off now even with being at the top of the league by one point

all the talk about being top of the league and not being happy, it goes deeper than just a result table

time will tell anyway

Re: Liverpool Thread

Actually there isnt much difference, manu have played this seasons top half 8 times, liverpool/chelsea 7 times with pool being the best overall (scoring 5 points more then manu with one game more played)

http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/PR/vtophalf.html

Bottom half liverpool are 3rd with manu and chelsea being the obvious winners.

http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/PR/vbothalf.html

tougher teams is a understatement for us. We've played the top 10 from last year already i think (may be 1-2 off) and the top 3 away from home.

Not sure how valid that is atm, seeing as we are closing in on the halfway point for this season. Interesting reading through the stats.

Re: Liverpool Thread

hmm United have played all their big four games away from Home no?

Thats an advantage IMO, even though theyve lost 2 of the 3.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Definitely an advantage for the second half of the season in our case. Much easier to play the other teams in the top four at home, especially if our second half is much stronger than the unconvincing start we've had.

You could just tell you were gonna drop points yesterday, and its great for us because we're the ones who've benefitted really.

Unfortunately we'll be knackered after the Japan games...bloody useless tournament.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah that concerns me too Tom. never mind lads you missed a great opportunity to make a statement last night. Saying that though you could do what we usually do and go on a great run from now and end up winning the league :)

Im not sure about that though. theyve gotten 1 point from 3, we've gotten 3 points from 1. Manu will have to play those home games to win to make sure they can even up the deficit, whereas arsenal and pool will be able to sit back and be content with a draw. Thats a big difference from previous years, especially for liverpool who have always been playing catch up for the big games meaning they have to be more attacking. That's whether we are still near the top when those games come along mind. If we are that means we can set up those games like europe and be the defensive team looking to counter which works as an advantage to us.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Feb will be the month which will decide if you have enough to win the league. Hows that a advantage? we could and probably should be out of the title race but were not cause you and Chelsea havent took advantage. Instead were on course to match last seasons point tally which IMO will be enough to win the league if we hit it.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's a weird season. United have exactly the same number of points they had last season from the corresponding fixtures (switching relegated teams by their rankings) which must mean Pool are out performing their results from last year by a stretch.

I think both sides have things to be encouraged by. Pool are top of the table, have beaten United at home and have done so without Torres for chunks. United have now played almost all of the top 10 away, normally directly after a midweek game, so must be looking at hte second half of the schedule as 'downhill', and if they beat Fulham at home are within 3 points.

Personally I still expect both of us to be battling for second, Chelsea still have the best squad in the league. If United had Hargreaves as an option and Scholes wasn't past it, I'd think they might do it, but a midfield of just Fletcher and Carrick is going to bring championships over a season.

Sorry lads....;)

Re: Liverpool Thread

got the chance to watch the game vs west ham the other night. i didn't watch every liverpool game so far this season, but it looked to me as dossena's first decent performance with the reds shirt (at least considering those liverpool games i watched this season)....

i was dining with some friends... near the end of the match i said that this looks like dossena's first decent performance this season...... then a friend of mine (who doesn't follow premiership) told me "are u kidding? he was awful. that's probably the worst match i've seen him playing"
no need to say my friend didn't saw any other liverpool match this season :D
i'm telling u that just to give u an idea of how far is the player u're watching today from the player people in italy watched last season.... and the season before...

let's hope that was a first (decent) step for andrea.

anyway, i wasn't really paying much attention to the game, as i had many friends at home (so it might just be a wrong feeling), but it looked to me his teammates were ignoring him sometimes.
did anybody has the same feeling?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Quite the opposite, I thought he got involved more than any other game I've seen him play.

He had a decent game against West Ham, possibly one of our better players that night as he put in some great crosses. Probably his best performance for us so far.

Your kidding right? :SS He may not be as good as he was a few years back but he's still quality, Fletcher has been one of the best CM's of the season so far and Carrick (as usual) has been brilliant alongside him. They could easily for me be our first choice from now on and I'd be happy you also forgot to mention Anderson.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Don't get this 'United have played tougher games' crap.

We've both played away to Chelsea, City, Everton and Villa, and we've got more points from those games. We're going to Blackburn this weekend.

We too will be playing 2 games to the Big 4 at home. You've got 1 point in 3 away games, we've already got 3 in 1. I'll also that for us at least, it's far easier to play the weaker teams (the Fulhams of this world) away, as they won't be parking the bus as they do at home, and far easier to play the Manchester City's of this world at home, as again, you expect them them to have a go at us, as they think they can get something. Both ways fall right in our set up.

No doubt we're going to require some luck to win the league. United going to Japan might just be what we need IMO. Don't care how we win the title, as long as we win it. Our last 10 games are very easy, and we finish seasons very strongly. We're top of the table in December, and I'd had bitten your hand off if you told me that at the beginning of the season.

Our title challenge will depend on when Torres can full recover from the injury, and when Robert David Keane realizes how good he was at Spurs. Too say United have an advantage because they have easier games is bullshit. It's going to be tight, but I think we'll be there or thereabouts come the end.
