Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Looking at the fixtures we should be able to keep this up till the end of dec, thats when we play Arsenal. The rest of the fixtures should be wins.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Rafa still has so much to learn from Fergie. I mean fine, he's sorted out this winning in the Premiership thing that took the best part of 5 years, but come on.

If you don't want Stevie to play midweek, you have to withdraw him at the 70 minute mark, after having him perform a scripted 'pulling up' with a tight hamstring or the like. You can't have him run about for the full 90 then come out and say he tore his groin. It's so...naive. ;)

(okay so I'm just personally affronted, as I just tore my groin playing 5 a side and couldn't walk, so there's no way Stevie was playing with a torn groin.)

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think it's just a cover-up by Rafa, tore a groin after 90 minutes of play? And Keane also out with a SHOULDERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR injury? Righttttttttttt .....

Re: Liverpool Thread

Tbh I can't understand all the moaning about players withdrawing from a meaningless friendly. They played last month FFS, can't stand all these pointless internationals anymore. Especailly when players like Torres finally get fit after getting injured on duty and now gets called up again. W@nkers!

Why don't they just do 2/3 friendlies for a whole week instead of squeezing in a match midweek?! How much time are the guys gonna train together anyway? Last match on sunday, meet up/travel monday, train tuesday, play wednesday and then f*&k off injured back to the clubs on thursday/friday. I would love to see manu/liverpool/arse/chelsea/other top teams across europe to tell all the FA's that they can stick their midweek pointless friendly up their respective @rses.

REF REVEALS DEATH THREATS
Posted 19/11/08 16:45EmailPrintSave

Martin Hansson, the referee in charge of Liverpool's recent Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, has admitted receiving death threats over his decision to award a late penalty to Reds captain Steven Gerrard.

The Swedish referee pointed to the spot in the fourth minute of stoppage time of the game at Anfield, which Atletico were winning 1-0 at the time, for what he perceived to be a push on Gerrard from Mariano Pernia.

The decision cost the Spanish club a place in the last 16 of the Champions League, and has since been derided by many at Atletico and in the Spanish media.

Speaking for the first time about the aftermath of incident, Hansson told Swedish newspaper Sport-Expressen he has had to change numbers and inform the police over a number of threatening calls and text messages.

"I have received death threats. It has been horrible and feels very uncomfortable," he said.

"I had enough. The phone rang all the time and I had a great many text messages. I am pretty used to this, but now I've had enough. It has been very threatening. I feel completely fed up, quite simply.

"I have always had my mobile phone on and my number has been on the network. Now it no longer works. I'm sad that I can't be as open as I once was.

"I have notified the police that there have been threats against my life. But it is difficult for the police to prove."

Hansson laid some of the blame for the threats he has been receiving on the media, who he feels have fuelled the situation.

He said: "I find it odd that it never, or hardly ever, gets mentioned when the referees are doing something good, only when it is something that is questionable.

"Since it has been in all the newspapers it's been so bad. When you make a big mistake, it should certainly show, but when it is rewritten in the days and weeks that follow it becomes too much."

Despite all the problems Hansson insists he will not quit the game, as his compatriot Anders Frisk did after receiving similar threats following a game between Chelsea and Barcelona in 2005.

"I know that it is not worth getting upset about it, and I'll keep on refereeing because I like it," he said.

"I want to continue to believe that football can do a lot of good and it would be sad if these dark forces had any influence on me.

"I thought about quitting, absolutely, but I have made my decision to continue. But I never considered it (quitting) as much as right now."

Honestly, besides the ridiculous coverage in the media aswell, its only a point won/2 points lost to the clear group favorites who will both qualify anyway. I'm getting a bit sick of football365 lately, they are turning into an online rag. The bold is a pretty common way they report these days. Offcourse adding; "...with two games to spare...." wouldnt be anywhere near as controversial.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It would be stupid to let Benayoun go, best squad player we have
amongst all the average ones. We shouldn't let him go for anything
less than £7m or even more.

That was the big thing for me. It was a terrible decision, which he even admits, but WHO CARES! Both teams should qualify comfortably, and never in the history of a tournament with group stages does someone go back years later and talk about a qualifying game between two teams that both qualify. It's such a moot point. The only people who really care are the pure anti-liverpool and the pure uber-liverpool who'll defend anything.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Second best at Anfield, would you believe that? And the best team on the pitch is FULLLLLLLLLLHAM :(

Re: Liverpool Thread

Glad I missed the match by the sounds of it. Fortunately chelsea and manu had the same results with arsenal losing again. So not too much harm done, just a missed opportunity.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Team Selection wrong, substitutions too late. Credit to Fulham though.

Can't believe none of the big four scored a goal this weekend, LOL.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Keane's been terrible. Hope he's pushed to the bench when Gerrard returns.

Oh, and Xabi showed why he's just as important as Nando, Stevie G, and Pepe.

We have played a lot better when Keane is on. Take the spurs game, 1-0 up...could have been 5-0....we bring keane off...we go to pot....

Re: Liverpool Thread

Captain Fantastic to the rescue! How many times has he done that? Countless countless countless ..

And somebody please remind me we're not a one-army team (dunno if we should be happy or sad).

Re: Liverpool Thread

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres will be out of action for two to three weeks after sustaining a hamstring strain in Wednesday's 1-0 win against Marseille.

The Spaniard completed 90 minutes but a scan revealed he needs another spell on the sidelines having just returned from five weeks out with a similar problem.

Defender Fabio Aurelio will also be out for a fortnight with a calf injury.

:CURSE:

Re: Liverpool Thread

Why on earth they don't just replace Torres with Babel at hte top of the formation when injuries occur is beyond me. After all, it's Babel's proper position as well.

We don't really know what Babel's proper position is though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Still dont know why you changed your system from last season, £20M on a Diego or a good AML/C/R would have been fine.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well Riera has come at a good price to fill that AML but at the price of Babel's playing time.

Re: Liverpool Thread

So, what's the bet we'll mess up our chance today?

Though I predict a comfortable win.

Re: Liverpool Thread

West Ham have looked clueless for ages. Should be an easy win really. Just can't see where a West Ham goal could come from, and they look shaky at the back. Either way, I'm looking forward to it, love Monday night football.
