Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'm surprised to see Torres on the bench considering he was considered for the Atletico game.

Also considering this will be like Stoke all over again and we could use Torres' runs off the ball to create space.

Re: Liverpool Thread

well not overly required why get him injured!! Keane got his Premier League goal good finishing!!

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'd imagine at 70% fitness on Wednesday, he'd be pretty much 100% now so he'd have just as much injury chance as anyone else.

And if WBA set up to defend like Stoke did, we'd have needed Torres I think. But fair play to WBA, they came to attack and play football and Keane has managed to take his chances :))

Re: Liverpool Thread

Arbeloa! Quality finish son.

I've been a critic of him, but that goal has put the cherry on top of a great start to this season for him.

Hope Keane carries on from this, with him and torres in form and injury free they could do some real damage!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Usually not fussed about english footy, but good luck to you boys.

I've still got a feeling you'll blow it, but hopefully it'll go well for you.

Re: Liverpool Thread

nice finish by Arbeloa.... nice match for him.... Keane took his chances well.... WBA played more positive rather than a defensive parking bus style of play!!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Arbeloa didn't know what to do after scoring--he usually jumps on the huddle lol

This is a stark reminder for the next teams coming here that being positive @ Anfield has brought the right result! :APPLAUD: :APPLAUD:

Re: Liverpool Thread

And counter attack when possible .. great :(

But if Keane and Torres can combine and better their partnership, I think even parked buses have holes :P It's not like both strikers are lazy, I hope now Rafa can concentrate on how to break down those kind of defences. Both Keane and occasionally Kuyt are perfect and should keep testing the opposition offside traps more often during times like that.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He's got another 4+ years at Liverpool... so nothing to worry about there. He hasn't achieved anything yet, so I'm sure that's his first aim with Liverpool.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Liverpool have been told they could face financial difficulty in January and may be forced to sell up.

Keith Harris, who has brokered takeover deals for five Premier League clubs, believes Liverpool and Merseyside rivals Everton could be affected by the credit crunch.

Reds owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have two months to pay back a reported £350million worth of debt.

Harris feels the banks must consider whether to repossess the club if neither refinancing nor new financial stakeholders can be found, while he also thinks Liverpool might have to cash in on some of their top players if there is no fresh investment.

"The one that worries me is Liverpool," explained Harris, who has masterminded takeover deals at Chelsea, Aston Villa, Hull, West Ham and Manchester City and is currently seeking buyers for Newcastle and Everton.

"It has never been more difficult to find buyers.

"It's no longer a question of price negotiation - it's should we? People are wondering if now is the time to spend.

"Liverpool's debt is due in January, with maybe a six-month extension.

"The two banks which are the principal lenders - the Royal Bank of Scotland and Wachovia - are two of those that have suffered. Whether they want to lend it again or not, they may not be able to."
No progress

Harris, chairman of Seymour Pierce investment bank and a former Football League chairman, has also admitted that Everton are no closer in their search for a buyer.

Speaking at the International Football Arena Conference in Zurich, Harris said: "There is no progress at all."

Harris has also hit back at claims by Uefa president Michel Platini that English football has too much foreign ownership.

He said: "It's unfair to single out England for unmerited criticism. PSG are 62.5 per cent owned by an American property company and Grenoble was bought by a Japanese company and has a Bosnian coach.

"Platini talks of English clubs distorting competition but there is not one team that perfectly fits his ideal of locally-owned, debt-free and with a strong national playing squad."

Re: Liverpool Thread

yeah but currently even the GCC is taking it slow & easy in such financial turmoils..... even the gulf isn't saved from the financial meltdowns...as seen in dubai's slowdown...
the loan repayment by Liverpool by Jan should be all media crap.... nothing to take serious at all!!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Maybe, but the GCC are keen to diversify/have a pissing contest with their competitors. Liverpool is a much shinier jewel in the crown than Man City. Oil prices have tanked this month, but regardless they have such ridiculous wealth they need to spend it somewhere. I would be surprised if Pool didn't get snatched up if it were available. Especially if they defy critics and win the prem this year.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Spurs fully deserve their 3-0 lead at half time. This could be a rout. We are playing like a bunch of individuals and Spurs are playing like a team on speed.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well as bad as i feel about yesterday's united performance, watching liverpool this half makes me feel better :)

Oh wait, Gomes is sh*t. So two goals for you lot :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Pfft, what a load of cobblers. Turned on, watched the first 15mins, and thought fuck this, they don't look bothered, any of them. Disgrace.

I do like how the Beeb were slagging off our reserve team. What the treble winning reserve team? At the very least they are the best in the North of England and we beat Villa who had the best second string in the south last year.

The players out there are our fringe first teamers, and that is where we are weakest in my opinion.
