Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

His Carra was crap but Rafa was brilliant, as was Gerrard and the bit before Carra impersonation when he pretended to clear his nose a la Carra.:D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Fuck me I just turned on a stream and see Zaki scoring by
an overhead kick...1-2

Edit 3-2 Riera & Kuyt side volley...

Re: Liverpool Thread

oh my word, dejavu.

Opposition player sent off for horendous tackle on Xabi (2nd Yellow), and comning from behind to win.

Oh and Reira is QWALITY.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, Riera just seems to get better every game! :DD

Kuyt looks so much more suited to playing up front.

Dossena really hasn't settled for us whatsoever :((

Re: Liverpool Thread

Give Dossena more than a season though. Italy to England is the toughest transition.

I thought he was one of the keys to our comeback v Man City.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Good result, also good to see Rafa go for it these days, take both backs off and put wingers/am's on.

Liverpool were pretty poor in the first half though, couldnt cope with Wigan's harrasing. Also thought the ref was slightly biased to them tbh, not with big decisions as I think he got them all correct but so many of these nigly fouls that Wigan weren't punished for yet Liverpool were. Anyway, 5 comebacks in 8 games.

Great game by Kuyt, couldve had a hatricks with the shot against the bar and kirkland's tidy save with the foot. Good to see him do well, although don't think he'll pose Chelsea any problems.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well, it seems there may be something different to you this year.

Gonna watch those highlights first, but last year you would've lost (and did lose), so who knows?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Fantastic win! But cannot remove the fact that we conceded 2 goals, good thing that Red card started it all, stupid yellow card, he knew he was on one yellow yet made (another) rash tackle on ALONSO (Without him who knows where we are, 10th place?). And to be honest, all of those Red card tackles Alonso received, all of them are I believe correct decisions (malicious).

Re: Liverpool Thread

First goal was a freak goal, Second was just quality, but the cross should never have arrived.

I'm not too worried about our defence. Agger needs time to settle again with Carra, Dossena needs time to adapt fullstop, he has shown promise and weaknesses too.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Wish Steve Bruce would STFU moaning about the ref, he should look at his own player. Ridiculous amount of time being wasted in the wall by them and were lucky not to already have a yellow for one or two of them, and then a poor late challenge which was always going to be a yellow, atleast.

Not sure about the defense atm, they seem pretty solid in one regard but are just conceding these silly goals, two at mancity that should have been cleared and again today, daft agger goal and him and dossena getting in each others way. I would put that down to getting used to each other.

Not sure about the chelsea game though, think we'll really miss Torres. Would be pleased with a 0-0 atm, just to keep the gap at 0.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has admitted that he turned down the chance to sign Sergio Aguero.

Benitez has revealed that The Reds were offered the chance to sign Aguero in 2006 when he was 17.

However, the Spanish coach thought he was too young and did not want to pay what his club, at the time, Independiente were wanting.

Atletico did pay around £14million and now just two years on he is regarded as one of the best players in world football.

Benitez will face Aguero on Wednesday when The Reds travel to Madrid for their UEFA Champions League clash.

"Two years ago the agents were talking with us about players and he was one of those but he was too young," Benitez told The Times.

"Atletico paid big money for him, around 18million euros [about £14million] for a player who was a risk.

"In the Premier League it's different and sometimes players will need more time here to improve."

Another player who will come face-to-face with Benitez is Florent Sinama-Pongolle - who departed Anfield after he failed to impress during a three-year stay on Merseyside.

The Frenchman is now producing some good form and Benitez admits he was only sold because he had too many forwards.

"We had a lot of confidence in him, we knew that he's a good player but he needed to play games," Benitez said.

"We had Crouch, we were bringing in Torres, it was a question of space."

He's score 3 against Chelsea in the past season
of course they've all been at Anfield. Plus no
Carvahlo for them so we'll see how they cope in
defense.

Riera, Rafa has finally got it right...Nunez, Gonzalez, Leto?

Pennant played well on saturday to.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Instead of sitting joint top with Chelsea, Liverpool would be 14 points worse off if their matches had finished after 58 minutes. (The Times)

Funny how these stats come out now, yet United have been winning games in the last few minutes for YEARS and nothing is said then

Bloody press :CURSE:

While I don't like having a heart attack everytime I watch LFC play, that stats shows that our team has the stamina and will power to push right until the death. Meaning? Don't turn your TV sets just yet, goals coming at the end of matches :)

Oh and seeing Alonso and Riera as wing backs gave me the creeps, what IF Wigan decided to attack?

But a game is 90 minutes. People seem to forget that.

Sack Rafa

Re: Liverpool Thread

yep a stat for the Times:

The game of football is played over two periods of 45minutes (90mins) and additional stoppage time as decided by the officials (Peter Eyres)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Completely agree, We havnt had that for a while which I miss really(United), became custom for us to get late goals which is always a great feeling to have and gives the players belief.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I'll take a draw there, fair result.

Keane needs a right kicking though. What he thought he was doing with that fancy attempt at a flick instead of just side-footing it in, I just don't know. Game should've been over then :CURSE:

Our defence really is a mess at times. I lost count of the amount of times Atletico had a man free on the right side of our defence just loitering in the box with NOBODY marking him. Their goal was coming all along, we got punished for not picking players up before and Atletico did the same thing again and again, and it paid off.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Indeed, Arbeloa not good enough. Thought Dossena had a great first half with Reira. Bennayou was awful, wasted so many chances in the 2nd half to kill the game off.

Another silly defensive mistake gifts a goal. I have faith the back four will sort it out though, but the Skrtel injury may have more to do with it. Agger and Carra need time together again.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Happy with that. Our players do look absolutely knackered. Coming back from behind does take a lot of energy. They have a few days to get their energy levels up. Chelsea game is far more important.
