Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah :DD

Seriously though, we've been absolutely tripe these last few games. The only players to get any credit are Pepe and El Zhar. I'd think this is just our bad patch, but it's come right at the beginning of the new season. Torres is tired after the Euros, Keane has just joined, Gerrard has been injured, Babel, Lucas and Masch have been away. And Xabi's head is all screwed up, and we have no left winger. No excuses for our shite performance, but we can't do any worse than we're doing now. The fact that we're winning regularly after playing like this just gives me more confidence, that we have the killer instinct to win these matches (and a bit of luck of course).

With Gerrard back to full fitness, and Masch and Lucas back, and hopefully a new winger, I think we'll see our performances go up. They can't be any worse, so it can only get better. And I think we're pretty damn good when we are playing to our best.
What about on the right wing? Kuyt might get the odd goal or two but he looks very out of place out wide and Pennant isn't good enough. Benayoun? Gerrard? New signing?

Re: Liverpool Thread

First of all: congratulations to Liverpool.

And besides that: SHIT....i feel rather frustrated...this could have meant sooooo much for Belgian football...for years now we are up shit creek without a paddle and now we see litle signs of improvement. The 4th place of our Olympic team (without Defour, Witsel, Fellaini and Marcos Commozato who showed tonight how good they are).
And now we could have had a team with young homegrown players in the CL...

I haven't seen the first match, but this time Standard were the better team for 60 minutes and they even could have scored a couple of minutes before the end of regular time...

But then you see that Liverpool have more experienced players, they have through this dozens of times...Standard was playing without a single player with CL experience...

Ahhh shit...

PS: sorry, i'm well aware i'm moaning...

I said to Jumbo earlier, Keane just hasn't settled in at all. But then it's hardly surprising considering the team look like they've never met each other anyway.

I dunno about us having killer instinct, we really do lack creativity, far too much is going through our full-backs (who are so predictable as they wont go passed the 18-yd box) and it's just too easy.

Maybe Riera will stretch things out and open things a bit more?

Pretty sure it's going to be Gerrard or Babel, with Benayoun and El Zhar as back up.

Re: Liverpool Thread

We really can't get any worse, and we're still winning games.

Liege did what they set out to do, but come on, some of you are going over the top. Liege didn't 'Deserve' to go through. Its just that we didn't either. They were probably the better team in the first leg.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Oh and yes, Babel to the right wing please! His cross today with his right foot suggests he is just that, a right sided or central player. He's always seemed more comftable there, like against Newcastle away last season when he was immense IMO.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah, typical Liverpool, eh? ;))

shoudln't you be supporting Derby County?

we were fucking awful tonight, i was in the main stand the the Liverpool fans were outsung for 90 minutes thanks to a ground full of day trippers who will not sing no matter what, it fucking sickens me what Anfield has become, it's a joke now.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Just heard, Stevie G is injured, and will be out for around 10 days. Explains his woeful performance in the last few games.

Not worried, time for Mr Lucas to step up.

One of the main reasons I go to watch AFC Liverpool mate ;))

People who are going to AFCL games are real Liverpool fans and not just people who are over on holiday and think it'd be cool to watch a Liverpool match while they're here.

I haven't seen the first leg, but Standard (Liège is a third division club here in Belgium) certainly was the better team for about 70 minutes. Afterwards they became exhausted and Liverpool grew stronger. But compare the amount of saves Espinoza had to do with those of Reyna. In the first 90 minutes Espinoza had to do one save: a free kick of Fabio Aurelio. Liverpool builded one single good attack, where Marcos Cammozato headed the ball away before Torres on the second post. I remember Reyna having decisive saves on shots of Mbokani and Fellaini (at least). And even at the end of the first 90' Standard could have won it: on their last corner De Camargo narrowly missed the target...

Of course Liverpool had more ball possession, but Standard quietly had everything under control. In fact it's a long time since i've seen such a tactical mature performance from a Belgium club. If you looked at the faces of the Liverpool players, bench and the audience it becomes clear who was the better team...Liverpool was so worried that they even "forgot" the rules of fair play by not returning the ball (and it never was a dive, besides Mbokani was far from the biggest diver on the pitch, that was Torres).

To be fair, Liverpool should have had a penalty in the prolongations.
Of course all this doesn't matter anymore because it's Liverpool that has qualified. But it simply wasn't a deserved qualification. Nevertheless: best luck.

Hmmm, well we can't leave it any later then that (81th, 85th, 94th & 118th). I wonder when we'll score before the 80th minute?!

Foudn the performence a bit chelsea-esque. No panicking, just continue and grind the opposition down till you score.

Interesting - does that mean he'll just miss the England qualifiers? What are the odds...

What if England are great without their best player? What will Capello do...hrm...

That Witsel guy impressed me alot. Liege was very good, their manager got his tactics spot could say they were Rafa-like tactics.

We need proper first team quality wide players, Benayoun, Pennant, El Zhar(who was great when he came on) are all good squad players and maybe it's time to revert back to 4-2-3-1. Gerrard is too shackled down in a 4-4-2

Kuyt should be moved back as a striker, it's so pointles playing him as a "wide" player against small teams.

Yeah we're playing shit ATM, but I like to think we'll build up momentum as the season goes on.

Re: Liverpool Thread

you guys were pretty lucky last nite eh, standard look a decent tem could go well in the you fuck up. anyone know are they in the new pro evo?!!!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Torres and El Zhar are the only ones to come out of this with some kind of credit.

El Zhar of all people

This is so embarassing it's unbelieavable.

he should have been given a PK don't you think ?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Definately. Replays clearly show he had he leg taken, even after he stood up after being fouled a second earlier as well.

It did make me laugh when their manager complained about not getting penalties (I can't remember one debatable pen for them?) yet El Zhar's was one of the most obvious I've seen.

PSV is not as strong as before, but Marseille and Atlético are.
But is that same thing again if Liverpool goes no one can stop it.
