Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

And we all know that the owners are idiots. They didn't even know who Franz Beckenbauer was!

What's to forget about last season? I remember last season well, as well as all the years under Rafa, AND the years under Houllier, where we were UEFA Cup contenders, rather than regular contenders for the Champions League, and were fighting with Newcastle for the Top 4, rather than now, when we've finished 3rd twice, and have accumulated our two highest point totals since 1990.

Yeh, I remember.

hhhmm seem to have forgotten the owners trying to get rid of rafa..

funny that...

and having more points than you did 18 years ago isnt really an achievement considering United Arsenal and Chelsea have come on leaps and bounds since then....

Re: Liverpool Thread

we've spent £19m on Keane, £18m on Mascherano, £6.5m on Skrtel, £7m on Dossena, £20m on Torres, £11.5m on Babel, £5m on Benayoun, £1.5m on N'Gog and £6m on Lucas since the Yanks took over, so don't tell me they haven't supported Rafa and that we've got no money.

even Martin O' Neil said the that Liverpool had the money to sign Gareth Barry but Villa changed the deal at the last minute because they're a bunch of cunts.

but rafa has sold players he bought to fund those buys..

scousers always say how well rafa balances the books...

its cos he has to!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Can't see Chelsea selling someone that good to us either.

I'd be very surprised if we let him go (and especially to one of our rivals for the Prem) - and there would be open revolt if we let him go but kept SWP and Malouda!

He was voted player of the season last year and is a fans favourite - The only hint that he is out of favour has come from Ballague in an article I posted on our thread. It might be a different story next summer, but for now I think this is just tabloid stirring.

Re: Liverpool Thread

hahahh, LOL, the liverpool supporters have the european social studies proffesor attitude, blame the americans for everything, you got torres, you got keane, you have mascherano, your getting some of the best footballers on the planet, the excuses need to stop and the winning needs to begin, not trying to have a go, but how many world class central midfielders does rafa need?

Re: Liverpool Thread

What a rubbish first half by us. We shit ourselves when liege came at us all guns blazing. We're still in pre-season mentality, its not good enough and we need to step it up. Alonso, dossena, agger, benayoun and plessis need to get into it more and concentrate.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not Over the Line and not a pen. We seemed to take control towards the latter stages off the half, hopefully Rafa can wake them up for the 2nd.

Second string midfield doesn't help. Benayoun and Kuyt are not wingers, end of, we need one desperately.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Poor half of footy by us that's for sure! We just seem to be lacking the spark of creativity and we also seem vulnerable every time Liege attack. Its gonna be a struggle

Re: Liverpool Thread

Piss poor by us, liege looked miiiles better and showed far more commitment and enthusiasm. Rafa needs to bollock them all, lazy sods.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hopefully this'll push us into buying a creative midfielder, because we SERIOUSLY lacked creativity last night.

Standard presented a complimentary toilet roll to every home supporter before the game in an attempt to add spectacle to the atmosphere.

And for the Anfield return in a fortnight, Liverpool would be advised to follow suit given their fans are in for a nervy evening on this form.

Nonsense. Well, nonsense in regards to needing a creative midfielder. I imagine that if Mascherano had been playing, Alonso would've had more time on the ball. I also imagin that if Babel had been playing, there would've been someone to run at defenders. Plessis, Kuyt and Benayoun were all playing out of necessity, not tactically.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Oh, and I'll just say, I think we saw one reason last night we Rafa wants Barry. We lacked leadership.

Re: Liverpool Thread

We'll have Mash and Gerrard playing more often than not, leaders won't be a problem.

I'm glad we got that game out of our system, rather against Liege than Sunderland in the league.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Benitez said last night: “I don’t know if we will have new players, I’ll just try to keep improving the players I have at the moment.”

Looks like we've given up on Barry then, and anyone else.

Or someone who can tackle and defend, as great as Xabi is getting things going defensively he's a bit weak. Thought Plessis did well still a lot to work on tho.

On the creativity issue we just lacked certain players like Babel & Lucas, Kuyt on the wing in a 442 just did not work.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Barry starts for Villa today. That's that then.
And he scored as well. :DD I think you guys are already strong enough in central midfield. If Benitez is going to play 4-4-2, then he needs to buy a winger or two, forget Barry for God's sake.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Got a feeling we'll win the league this season, and Rafa will become a Merseyside legend.

 I hate to disappoint a fellow supporter but your feeling has no chance mate, the most likely outcome is another run in Europe (quarter or semis) with no league challenge finishing 3rd/4th, if Rafa does that he might be given another chance to address the pathetic gulf in class between our wide/creative midfielders and those of the other top three.

It's not a feeling. I am positively confident we'll win the league.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Honestly. I'd say by around 15 points. We'd have wrapped the league around March I would guess, so we can concentrate in Europe.
