Re: Liverpool Thread

Great video. Can't wait to see him in action.

He's got the No. 2 jersey BTW.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Haha, O'Neill, what a fucking hypocrite. Publically declaring Arsenal's interest.

You didn't get it, did you?

First O'Neill moans about Rafa going public with his interest over Barry (which Rafa didn't), and saying things should be done in private. Now he goes out and himself publically declares Arsenal's interest for Barry. A bit hypocritical, don't you think?

ermmm no i dont , because it aint a secret any more is it!!! jeeeez!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Why're you quoting him again .. :(

To be honest, this arsenal link Barry's in makes me think that it is a big possibility that Barry will end up in Arsenal.

Although I must think that Arsenal is cash-strapped .. no?

Re: Liverpool Thread

Apparently, we bid Pennant and Carson for Downing, but got rejected. We'll make another bid soon. Would be a brilliant buy IMO.

For next season

4-1-3-2

Reina/Cavalieri

Degen/Arbeloa Carra/Skrtel Agger/Hyypia Dossena/Aurelio

Mascherano/Plessis

Babel/Benayoun Gerrard/Lucas Barry/Downing

Keane/Voronin Torres/Kuyt

AND

4-2-3-1

Reina/Cavalieri

Degen/Arbeloa Carra/Skrtel Agger/Hyypia Dossena/Aurelio

Mascherano/Plessis Barry/Lucas

Babel/Kuyt Gerrard/Keane Downing/Benayoun

Torres/Keane

A summer of

Cavalieri
Degen
Dossena
Barry
Keane
Downing

would be bloody brilliant

Re: Liverpool Thread

Downing, Personally i dont see why you rate him? yes he's got a good cross on him but seems a bit like Pennant who can cross?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I think Downing is a pretty good player too, a very good winger and English at that.

Re: Liverpool Thread

14.05 Juventus have confirmed that plans to sign Xabi Alonso have been shelved. The Old Lady have completed a move for Christian Poulsen this week and no longer need midfield reinforcements.

I think we all knew but there you go.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Downing, Personally i dont see why you rate him? yes he's got a good cross on him but seems a bit like Pennant who can cross?

Why do I rate him? Because he was the highest scoring midfielder in the league after Gerrard and Lampard. Because apart from Ronaldo, and Joe Cole, he's been better and more productive than all other wingers in the Top 4.

The fact that he's still young, he's English, and is the best left winger in the country. Left wing hasn't been our strongest area. We don't have a left footed attacker. Adding the best player in that position in the league to our team would make a lot of sense.

Also, he's always had potential, and actually lived upto it last season. Can see him developing into a fantastic player under Rafa. He scores goals, and assists. He alone was the reason why Boro stayed up. He's a leader (just like Keane and Barry), and is used to stepping up when his team needs him. And he'll probably step up on the few occassions that Gerrard and Torres go missing.

And also that Capello, one of the most successful coaches out there, singled out Downing for praise amongst all other English players.

Personally, I hate the comparisons with Pennant. Pennant was a player with pace, but his crossing was poor, he didn't score goals, and had a peanut for a footballing brain. All he ever had was potential and that's it.

Huge improvement on all our wide players. Do it.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Midfielder Xabi Alonso's failed move to Juventus means Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has abandoned plans to buy David Villa and David Silva from Valencia - and may have to give up hope of signing Tottenham striker Robbie Keane. (Daily Mirror)

 That Alonso money sure is going a long way if it was apparantly signing Villa, Silva and Keane!

Re: Liverpool Thread

LIVERPOOL are ready to put their move for Gareth Barry on ice - unless Aston Villa lower their valuation of the player.

The Reds protracted chase for the England international is now reaching epic proportions and with no sign of a deal being done Liverpool are ready to concentrate their efforts on bringing in Rafa Benitez’s remaining summer transfer targets.

With Villa refusing to budge on their £18m valuation of Barry the two clubs have reached stalemate as Liverpool are not prepared to pay that price.

The 27-year-old was today returning to training with Villa as Martin O’Neill softened his previously hardline stance on his wantaway club captain.

But Barry’s desire to quit Villa Park has not lessened, nor has Benitez’s desire to bring him to Anfield – meaning O’Neill will have to decide whether or not he wants to do deal with Liverpool or face the prospect of keeping a player who has already publicly admitted he sees his future elsewhere.

I guess many Liverpool fans will be pleased at this. I wonder what the split would be over Barry or Alonso.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Don't mind Downing I read alot people think that he's shit but he's not,
I reckon he can make the big step up. Maybe then he will also come good
at international level.

Also we're still tracking Riera aswell.

Regardless of the Alonso sale haven't we got money from the Crouch
transfer? There's hopefully a Carson deal to go through and Benitez
apparently wants to scrape as much cash back for Pennant who's been
the interest of Blackburn.

hilarious to say the least, all they talk about is this one coming and that one coming and they have no money, heavily reliant on the money from alonso going to juve.
now thats collasped old rafa is taking some flak (again) in todays press, no chance of signing keane now(not that he would want to leave spurs anyway). see report below.
some of the shite fans on evo-web even have the cheek to include the likes of villa and keane in there first 11 for the new season how funny is that.

good times all , lets all laugh at liverpool wannabee`s and rafa`s big mouth....

enjoy your signings no-one knows but you!!!! another right mess rafa!

Of course you cant see it happening. Thats the joke of this whole saga. Rafa publically declared interest in a player who is vice captain, leading goalscorer and club personality, who himself declared his loyalty to THFC three weeks before Rafa shot his mouth off. Additionally, after a season where a top class manager came in promising a trophy, and achieving just that.

Any expectation of Robbie Keane leaving is badly placed and will only end in Rafa Benitez placing waaaay to much pressure on himself and expectation in the fans only to end fruitlessly.

All this for the point that as well as being a Celtic fan as a child, and calling Spurs his 'spiritual home', Robbie liked Dalglish when he was a youngster....hmmmmm really?

Surely, way too much Liverpool talk in an Everton thread?

I'll quote this if/when we sign Keane

Re: Liverpool Thread

14.49 Olympiakos are reportedly in talks with Liverpool over the signing of midfielder Sebastian Leto. The Argentine has yet to make an impact at Anfield, and could be offered the chance of a move to Greece.

I like Leto but I think Insua is ahead of him.

Re: Liverpool Thread

I like Leto but I think Insua is ahead of him.

Leto's a winger though, isn't he?

Think his work permit still hasn't been sorted, so Rafa's decided to cash in on him, as he can't actually play.

Re: Liverpool Thread

WB/L. He's had a few games and looked shakey, but I think he has potential.

Like I say, he wont get in front of Insua, nevermind Aurelio and Dossena.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Elisha Scott reckons Keane deal will be done by the weekend. Around 20M.

Re: Liverpool Thread The Micky Mouse Treble

 Found this,

The year is 2020, and little Tommy scouser is sitting around the DVTV multiplayer unit as his dad Tommy scouser is reminiscing about the great Liverpool sides of the past.

"Tell me about the treble winning year dad" says Tommy jnr

"Agh the treble winners, now that was a team, Westerveld, Henchoz, Heskey, all wonderfully skilled players... a great side" replied his dad.

"They swept all before them didn't they father?" queried the wide-eyed boy.

"They did, Worthington cup, FA cup and UEFA cup. My God son they were awesome." Stated pops.

"So the Worthington cup dad, who'd they beat", asked the youngster, "Was it Man United or Everton"

"Well no son, none of those, we stuffed Birmingham City, oh how we made those blue noses suffer!" added Tommy scouser.

"What was the score dad? Was it 6-0? I bet it was, wasn't it dad? I bet Michael Owen scored 6! Did he Dad" young Tommy quizzed excitedly.

"Er no son, actually Birmingham were a great side in them days, and we fought hard to take them to penalties, and eventually we stuffed them in sudden death!" squirmed the senior scouser. "Any how son, the FA Cup was the one they all wanted, and we were up against the Arsenal" added Tommy senior as he tried to sweep his son along on a tide of euphoria.

"Oh Arsenal dad, they won the league and European cup that year didn't they dad, oh I rember those players from history, Grimandi and Lee Dixon, they were famous all around Islington weren't they dad.

"True, true, oh it was a great game son, we nearly scored once in the first half you know. Oh I remember it well, oh how we cheered as after 23 minutes we raided into Arsenal's half and Heskey had a header, that would've been less spectacular if the keeper wasn't 47 years old" stated the proud dad.

"How many shots did we actually have that day father?"

"Well er, urm about 3"

"And how many did Arsenal have dad?"

"Well about 9, but they weren't real chances" added Tommy senior

"Doesn't sound like much of a victory to me dad, just 2-1, sounds a bit lucky" sounded the young scouser

"Well maybe but son the UEFA final wa the big one, and we stuffed them, we scored five times" quickly added Tommy senior.

"Five times wow, gee dad we must have given them a real hiding, who was it dad? Was it AC Milan or Real Madrid? Or was it Monaco dad? Who dad?"

"Well son it was the Spanish giants, Alaves" stated the elder scouser.

"Who?" asked wee Tommy.

"Alaves son, oh they were a big team in the Basque country back then. They had some massive names."

"Who had they dad was it Rivaldo, he played in Spain then, or Raul who was it dad?"

"No it wasn't Raul or Rivaldo. Cruyff played for them and the Norwegian international Eggen."

"Johan Cruyff dad?"

"No son, not Johan, Jordi he was almost as good as his dad. He once scored a hat-trick for Man United against Everton you know!"

"Did he dad? What was that in?

"Well the Avon's Insurance combination league son".

"Oh so what was the final score dad 5-0?

"No er, urm agghh. It was 5-4 son"

"5-4! They scored 4 time! Oh I get it dad, I remember once reading that 2 men were sent off in that final. So I take it Liverpool had two men sent off after 5 minutes, and had sorta evened out the contest!"

"No son actually they had only 9 men son."

"Dad"

"WHAT"

"Who scored our winner that day?"

"Er, um oh it was a fella called Geli"

"Sorry dad I've a Liverpool A-Z here, and there is Gallagher, Gamble, Gerrardm, but no Geli?"

"Well son it was an own goal"

"We beat Alaves with an OG, dad we seem to be a very lucky side, how many more shots on goal did we have on them?"

"Well, ag, er actually they had 9 and we had 8"

"Dad?"

WHAT

"Can I go outside and nick some space pods from the heliovertors?"

"Yeah go on son".

Re: Liverpool Thread

So, Keane hopefully gets the No. 7 jersey. Torres-Keane. Rush-Dalglish part 2.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hopefully! I'm eager for more updates on the Keane/Barry sagas, time drags so slow during the transfer window
