Re: Liverpool Thread

LIVERPOOL are set to complete two transfer deals – after beating a host of top clubs to one of Europe’s most promising young strikers.

Italian left-back Andrea Dossena agreed terms to complete his move from Udinese for a fee in the region of £6million earlier this month before going on his honeymoon.

He is now set to put pen to paper when the transfer window officially opens on Tuesday, and Anfield chief executive Rick Parry said: “We are now ready to confirm the signing of Dossena. The deal should go through next week after finalising the paperwork.”

But the signing of Danish youngster Nikola Saric (pictured) is a longer-term investment, the 17-year-old joining on a three-year deal from Herfolge for an undisclosed fee.

Barcelona were just one of a clutch of clubs keen to seal the signature of the striker, who can also play wide on the left, but after Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez contacted the player personally he dropped out of his club’s training camp in Greece to fly in to Merseyside yesterday.

“All the top clubs in Europe have been involved with this player,” Herfolge’s sporting director Per Rud told the Daily Post.

“So it says something about the club that he is turning up at Liverpool.

“We are very proud to sell him to one of the biggest clubs in the world and glad that they came up with the best package for him.”

Another youngster.

Re: Liverpool Thread

It's a norm these days to get as much youngsters as possible as it has become a business investment, as sad as it sound. It has also a higher probability that he will succeed if he comes to England and adapt when he's younger.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Seeems like a wide forward, also seems like he's quite the dribbler but you never know how good they are until they do it in a major league.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Missed the news about Nemeth possibly going to Leeds on Loan :(

He deserves more playing time in the first team than Vornonin thats for sure.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hmm, transfer speculation.

We're after Downing, might be around 12M.

And Itandje could go to Galatasaray for an unbelievable 3M!!!

Re: Liverpool Thread

do any of you see him in the first team squad for next season? 17 is young but we've seen many 17 year olds take the league by storm.

A cup game here or there, but not a regular IMO.

Rafa must rate him very highly, because he personally took care of all the details of the transfer.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Wouldn't say regular but you now similar to Fab's first season and also Ronaldo's, if he can add to the team with speed, and trickery then why not since you lack that anyway.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He's only 17 so I don't think we'll be seeing him for a long time, Nemeth will start before he does.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Guys, got something to tell you.....

The best player on the pitch in a European Championship final belongs to Liverpool.

THE MATCH WINNER of the European Championships is Fernando Torres, Liverpool's No. 9

Re: Liverpool Thread

Going to do the team a world of good to have some European champions. And to have the match winner of the Euro final.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Had a feeling Torres would score tonight because he would be the focal point.

He's had a great tournament without it being brilliant. Maybe people thought he should have got a few more goals but the contributions he made to the other goals shouldn't be forgotten. He ran every defence he played against, ragged.

Really happy for the boys. Pepe, Alonso (stay!), Torres and Arbeloa. Congrats.

Torres made up for his Chelsea dissapointment.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Seems like this could all back fire on you imo, Torres playing in a team which won something, playing in a team which plays some of the best football Ive seen and now he has to return to Liverpool where the tactics are for Carra to hoof it as far as possible and hopefully Torres will beat the 4 defenders and keeper, he might consider his future ;))

Re: Liverpool Thread

 Took the words right out of my mouth. All Torres did was get a taste of success so now its gonna put more pressure on the rest of you guys to give him that at Liverpool.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Or maybe the fact he's a winner now he'd lift the team and accept nothing less than winning trophies this season. ;))

I absolutely guarantee you, Torres would much prefer playing in a Liverpool team, rather than a Spanish team.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Anyways, rumors of Robbie Keane doing the rounds. Sounds tasty.

Re: Liverpool Thread

torres had an ordinary tournament, didnt play any where near like he can for his club team but in last nights final i thought he was superb , he had the germans run ragged as pete says and took his goal very well, could have had a hatrick with hitting the post an all.

Torres had an ordinary tournament simply because of the way Aragones used him. Torres is best suited as a lone striker up front, and playing him with David Villa didn't do him any favors. He had to shift out wide, or play as the link man, while Villa played centrally, and that's not what he's supposed to do. Spain did look very poor, every time Torres-Villa played together. Their best performances (Russia 2nd half both times, the final) were when they were playing with one striker up front.

Yesterday, Torres played similar to how he plays for Liverpool. Doesn't help the fact, that he has to make 5 runs to get the ball, but he was brilliant yesterday. Big game player, Nando :))

MAURICIO PELLEGRINO is poised to return to Anfield as Rafael Benitez attempts to bring Robbie Keane to Merseyside.

Argentinian Pellegrino, 36, who played 12 games for Liverpool in 2005, has been approached by Benitez for a second stint at the club, this time as part of his coaching staff.

Liverpool are also trying to prise Keane, 27, away from Tottenham Hotspur in a swap deal involving Peter Crouch.

Anfield insiders have confirmed that Benitez’s interest in the Republic of Ireland’s all-time leading goalscorer is genuine, but admit that it could prove difficult to reach an agreement with the north London club.

Keane, who netted 23 goals last season, is a big favourite with the White Hart Lane supporters, who voted him their player of the year having helped inspire Spurs to a Carling Cup victory.

Pellegrino’s expected arrival will be part of Benitez’s rebuilding of his backroom staff after a couple of high-profile departures.

The Spaniard’s partnership with long-time assistant Pako Ayesteran ended last season.

Although the 45-year-old fitness expert’s contract at Anfield doesn’t officially end until today, he has not been present at Melwood for several months.

I'd like to see Keane at Anfield but I can't see it happening, he wont want to be a bench-warmer.

FERNANDO TORRES paid a stirring tribute today to Liverpool FC and its fans - for helping turn him into a European champion.

The Reds striker scored a stunning winner to sink Germany last night and end Spain’s 44-year wait for a major trophy.

Now he wants to follow up his first major success as a player by helping Liverpool to glory in the coming season.

Torres told the ECHO: “It is a dream come true and now we have a place in European history so it is very special.

“It is my first major title but I hope it will be the first of many because I want to win many more titles with Liverpool and Spain.

“I would like to thank the staff and players at Liverpool for their support during Euro 2008 because it makes a real difference when you know you have the backing of the people of your club and because of this they share in our success.

“I have had a wonderful first season at Anfield and the goals I scored for Liverpool gave me the confidence and belief I needed for the Euros and, again, I would like to thank Rafa and his staff because I have improved as a player thanks to them.

“But it isn’t just the people at the club who have helped me, it is also the supporters and the people of the city.
