Re: Liverpool Thread

Dossena would be a great signing, he has had a wonderful season with Udinese but I don't think they will let him go yet.

Ballague reckons the deal for two full backs is done. Degen is now official, so I am guessing we'll hear about Dossena in a few days.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The transfers season starts with a ... free transfer. Great :(

Not saying he's a bad player but .....

vorinin # 2

hmmm How is it that a player at just 25 years of age makes it through to the end of his contract [at Borussia Dortmund] without being a transfer target for anyone significant ? If Philipp Degen was really all that good how come he wasn't a target last summer for the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester United (never mind the likes of Everton, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur).

Man Utd are chasing Alves and Chelski have spent £16m on a right back, its getting harder and harder to keep up with the big three......

Re: Liverpool Thread

SWISS STAR TO SIGN FOR REDS - The official site says

For a second I thought we invented a time machine and signed Stephane Chapuisat at his peak, I'm no expert but this "swiss star" can't even get a game at Dortmund who just avoided relegation, my question is what the fuck are we doing?

I hope some Dortmund/Bundesliga fans can come on here and tell us a bit more about him because from what little I've seen of Degen he's no improvement on Arbeloa or Finnan.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Dossena is a left back and seems a very good one at that.

wtf hahahaha laughing stock or what!!!!

Re: Liverpool Thread

LMAO.

At that Rafa thing and Degen :(

I'm willing to give him a chance but he really isn't the quality we need. Although he may well be an improvement on Finnan/Arbeloa in an attacking sense.

Dossena however. Me Likey!

Re: Liverpool Thread

Degen isn't half bad. Remember Sina raving about him in 2006, before and during the world cup. He reckoned that Alves and Degen could both be world class right backs. Alves has obviously made the cut, but Degen has been stuck at a struggling Dortmund side, and been plagued with injures. Remember Rafa going after Alves in 2006, and look how he turned out.

Willing to give Degen a chance. He certainly has the tools, great pace, and technique. Just a case of being at the wrong club, maybe? Similar to the Mascherano and Torres situations, who both had great World Cups (like Degen), but were struggling at their respective club sides, until Rafa got them, and unlocked their potential. He probably thinks he could do the same with Degen.

And let's be honest, there arn't that many great right backs around anyways. Bosingwa is gone, Lahm's signed a new contract, and Alves is Barca bound and way beyond our price range. So Rafa probably thinks it's better to buy a right back in Degen, who's shown his potential at the biggest stage (the World Cup), but been stuck at the wrong club. Get him on a free, and he's anyways going to be an improvement over Finnan and Arbeloa (at least attacking wise). Supposed to have attitude problems, but Rafa's sorted those out with Pennant and Bellamy.

Seems a typical Rafa buy TBH. He was highly rated as a youngster, made the wrong choice in his career and degraded, and now Rafa thinks turn it around for him by giving him a chance when no one else will take the risk and unlock his potential. It's worked with Torres, Mascherano and Alonso.

And in any case, from what I have seen, or remember, he's a really athletic full back. Pace, power, pretty tall, and decent technique. And Rafa will no doubt add some defensive nous to his game, because that's something Rafa always does. Could turn out to be a decent buy, because he did look like a potential world beater at the World Cup.

Look at Skrtel. Unknown quantity, and turned out brilliant. Aurelio, came on a free, and when fit, has always been good. Looking forward to seeing what Degen can do. Rafa knows much more about him than me, and normally gets it right. And Sina does as well :P

Won't be too sad, if he and Dossena are our 2 full backs next season. Fits in with what we're building with the 4-2-3-1. We'll get 2 very attack minded full backs, with Mascherano covering them (which he'll do the whole day).

Now, for the wingers......

Somebody in a red shirt have to post here :)

Dossena is close .. I think he'll choose Liverpool instead of Fio though if rumors are believable enough. He'll be starting here for sure most of the games.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yep, apparantly we're selling Arbeloa and Finnan to help raise money for Dossena. I'm surprised Arbeloa is mentioned as I feel he's been a great player for us and getting capped for Spain during his time here shows it's not just Liverpool fans thinking he's done well.

I wonder when we'll hear who these other three signings are that Rafa has got? He said a while ago he's got two for the reserve team and a first-team player who's not English but can speak English, surely we'll find out this week?

Arbeloa? WTF? Sell Riise!

Dear me, we are absolutely skint

Oh, and I think the first team player was Degen.

Riise's going, I don't think there's any doubt in that. Kewell's wages should've gave us loads of extra money from his huge wages, Pennant will also leave, and probably Carson too. So we should get a fair bit of money but this really is so disappointing to see neither owner willing to stump up some money.

Hopefully we'll see an end to this mess soon and we'll have one owner, whoever it is. And hopefully they do back the club and put money into it.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Arebloa is a good backup player but should be nowhere near the starting lineup.

Yeh, but we do need backup. Arby is a great squad player. Bet he won't head the ball into his own net if brought on due to injury anyways.

Arebloa is a good squad player and should be kept if possible

remember the number he did on messi on his debut, not a bad backup if needed
