Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

It was above the silly things pros use for shin pads these days.

If I was a pro, I'd have f*cking kevlar strapped round my legs ;)

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

It was above the shin pads, it hit first just above the socks, so no protection. And it is a leg breaking mistimed tackle, no matter how crazy it sounds.

Looking at the Maxi tackle, I think Maxi got lucky that Rafael got the ball first and was moving away from Maxi's foot. And no offence but justice was served when Rafael lunged two fotted at Lucas and got only a yellow. Suarez was cheeky by pulling Rafael's hair in the middle of the commotion.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

To be fair its challenges and outcomes like that which give players the incentive to dive. Nani nearly breaks his leg Yellow. Next time he'll maybe roll around a few more times and the referee might give it.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I do wonder what might've happened if Lucas hadn't jumped out of the way.

Props for being honest. If a United player had done that, I'd be just as quick to admonish (see the lack of support for Rooney's thuggery last weekend).

it does not look so bad from this view..

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

no need to be sarcastic, i didn´t say it´s not a foul, just from this image the wound looks not as bad as on the other images ... also it´s on place where he should have socks and being protected i think.

rofl
Seeing you try to decrease the hardness of the tackle and therefore exonerate Carraghers action is like seeing a dog trying to catch its tail. Funny at first but eventually it becomes annoying. These attempts also show me your mentality and how it can see the game and not just see a club, and from the looks of it you can only see red in front of you which is a shame.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Great victory by Liverpool. This must mean a lot to Liverpool fans.

About all these challenges.
IMO both Rafaël and Carragher should have got a red card. As an outsider i get more and more the impression that tackles like that are seen as normal (certainly when performed by a player of one's favourite team).

But to me both Skrtel and Suarez (that is if he was the one who pulled Rafaël's hair) should also have been sent off. Suarez was class throughout the game, but this deserves a red card. Someone here calls pulling Rafaël's hair "cheeky"...that says it all.

To give another example: what Schachner and a Birmingham player did during their match for me also deserved a red card for both players...the ball was nowhere near and they were simply fighting.
Same for Rooney against Wigan...

Are the refs to blame?

I don't think so.
There is simply too much going on. And the FA could support refs by giving sanctions after matches (Rooney, but now also Carragher, Rafaël, Skrtel and whoever pulled Rafaël's hair and also Schachner and his Birmingham friend).

On the continent all those players would have been sent off or would have got a sanction after the match.

Nevertheless: congratulations to Liverpool for a well deserved and beautiful win against the biggest rival...

gerd, agree that carra, rafael and maybe suarez(although that little aphrodite deserved it) should have seen reds but skrtel??whatever for?

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

seeing all these red card offensives over the weekend not given is hard to swallow. Has Phil Dowd mistakes on newc vs Arsenal game force him to give out yellow instead of Red! You can`t be naive to think losing control is handing out red cards ,but let the "call" fit the offense.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Refs should applu the rules and should be helped to apply them.
This weekend there was outrage about a penalty that was given where a defender had is arms around an attacker. The ref gave a penalty for it. Reaction of managers and pundits: strictly spoken this is a penalty, but if you give that then there would be 10 penalties in each match...

Well then either that rule should be changed or there should be given 10 penalties each match AND (most important) refs should be supported for given 10 penalties. I can assure this would last a couple of weeks and there would be no more penalties.

Personally i think those penalties should be given instead of altering the rules...The rule is there to make it possible to play un-impeded football...un-impeded football is what people want to see.

The problem is that clubs no longer care about the fans...this is notably visible in my country. We have play-offs here in Belgium (for the second year), although 85% of the fans are against it. There is a newe relegation rule: relegation takes in account the results of the 3 last seasons. This is very bad for newly promoted teams. People who know a lot more about maths than me have calculated that if next season a team that ended this season and the season before that in a midtable position, would end 15 or 16 th, then a newly promoted team should end 10th in order to stay up...this is madness. A team that has ended both seasons in play-off 1 (first six teams) simply can't relegate, even if they they would loose all their matches.

There is no consistency, even within the same ref. That's the biggest issue. I can kind of get that some refs are more lenient than others, but as you said, this is the same ref that did the Arsenal Newcastle game, and the same ref that sent off Rooney for throwing a ball too hard (petulent yes, but has it knocked out a player for a month?)

Anyway, enough is enough. It was a good win for Liverpool and a poor loss for United, but if United still win the league, the same posters saying of course it's a red card will be saying United only win because referees favour them. Whereas if they lose by, say, 1 point, the David Luiz non-red card embargo will be forgotten.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

The Cricket ruling is a great idea with the "Review" system. Give 1 a game (you keep it if the decision is correct) and im sure it'll resolve the problem.

That pisses me off in a huge way. I agree that penalties should be given each time a defender pulls a striker. If it happened in the middle of the pitch then it's okay so why should it be different for a corner kick?

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Well dags i would even agree that certain things should be OK in the 16 meters if it's stated like that in the rules...but it isn't...

I don't think refs are to blame. They simply don't get enough support. I'm also sick and tired about manager who constantly manipulate referees even before the match...this is not fair IMO (and i know that tis sounds very naïve).

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Not too bothered about Torres now, he's left under a cloud so he's not going to be remembered well by me. So he's a part of history and not too fussed about what he does at Chelsea, would rather concentrate on our own players.

In saying that, I saw a stat earlier that said if he doesn't score in his next game, it'll be the longest period of games he'll have played in England without scoring (6 or 7 it was). Not in great form but I'm sure he'll turn out good soon enough, he's still a good player.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I'm sure he will come good again. I still believe Liverpool have ended up being a better team without him though. I've said to take the money for him for well over a year to mates in all fairness.

It was my opinion and nobody else's, when looking at the replays I didn't sense any aggression of Suarez on Rafael over the tackle, I dunno what he was thinking by pulling his hair.

I think the ref wanted no red cards in this highly anticipated and watched game, which explains all the only-yellow cards on those red-card offences.

I have the replay of the tackle and it hit above the socks so no protection. It has the same big hole as in other images, maybe the first picture that were circulating was magnified so it looked very big, but it was a big cut.

Yup, not very nice at all. Worth noting that when a tear first happens, it won't have had a chance to fully open and bleed. Especially when it's a puncture like that.

The first image is right when it happened. The later ones from when he is on the ground are after it's had long enough spurt some blood.

Anyone tryin to make it out that it's just a scratch is an idiot, who should have a 12 stone professional footballer inflict the same on them, and see how they like it.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

PIPA23 your "scratch kinda injury" is going to sideline Nani for 4 weeks. Is that ok for you? Is Carragher still an angel PU6HY? Such an ordinary tackle wasn't it? For a scratch it sure wasn't that bad. 4 weeks is nothing compared to a broken leg that some guy in some other game could have gotten with an even worse tackle that luckily didn't hit him...

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Neoexodus what is your point? i stop talking about this tackle few posts ago... get over it...

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

I think Dags said it first and I have to agree. It's a shame and it's sad but it's the story of boy who cried wolf in regards to the whole Nani thing. If you continuously con referees into giving you fouls that aren't really there by actively trying in EVERY match, then it's what goes around comes around and a little bit of Karma that every once in a while, you actually get taken out for good and then unjustly don't get what you deserve.

Carragher and Rafael BOTH should've been INSTANTLY sent off though. No question about it and no 2 ways about it.

p.s. Suarez is another Nani in terms of diving. Just wait till you see though I thinks fans have already got a glimpse of that in his few games in England

Fantastic player, and a big cheat. Just like Nani himself and just like Dani Alves and many others.

Re: Liverpool Thread(King Kenny!!)

Not that i condone keano, but its a myth that ended the guys career. He retired after an injury to his other leg.

Anyway great win, well played. Cant believe carrick got a new contract.

Well, that's not true. It was the same knee that cuased him to retire.

The last few pages have been utterly laughable with sheer hypocrisy and lunacy. I especially loved the predictable outrage from Portuguese people about a professional athlete getting a cut on his leg and crying like a little girl.

Did I say he was an Angel? Go back and quote me if I did. Bored of this now. Now stop your whinging and move on.
