Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I wish he is wrong. I dont rate Rijkaard at all. Not only everyone says that his assisstant is the guy who has to take all the credit for his succeed, But he also had Ronaldinho in the best years of his career, and Deco who was brilliant.
For me is Kenny, Pellegrini or Spalletti.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Pellegrini seems the more consistent manager
in terms of success at Villareal and Real in terms of League position...

BUT he has not won anything in Spain....

Rijkaard however has won 3 major trophies with Barcelona
playing some dazzling attacking football..
He has also won as a player in the CL and Euro 88....
Rijkaard has beaten both Mourinho and Wenger in Europe...

I would prefer Rijkaard for that winning mentality....

that is true, but we also have Torres in best years of his career and Gerrard who is briliant...

we just need to start playing as team..

i remember Rijkaard came to Barca when they were playing poor, but he transformed them to a well playing team..

the thing with his assistent might be true, but we will see in next days..

the new LFC manager need to be for long term.. looking at all aspects of his future work with the team..

Re: Liverpool Thread

@ Dags,

Very much the FUotD from Roy. Jsus, stop talking like a f#$king midtable manager. And if he had any balls he would have said; "Why would Torres go to Utd when they are selling all their best players?!"

Arsehole!

Really not sure about Rijkaard though, although reading up on Ten Cate he is not working anywhere at the moment (according to Wiki). And he was also part of the staff that got Chelsea to the CL final, with Grant as manager. Didn't realise that. So he already knows the Prem and has worked well with Rijkaard at both Barca and the Dutch national team. If they can get him aswell I would be really pleased. EDIT Can't find any reference that Ten Cate was part of the Dutch set-up back then so maybe it's only the Barca years.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Liverpool should go for Ten Cate (without Rijkaard) and/or Pelegrini.

I watched that Inter-Spurs match...Benitez was fuming at the end of the match...
Althoug Spurs lost, Bale (and to a lesser extend Lennon) exposed Inter's weaknesses...Spurs could well win the home leg.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The absolute worst thing Liverpool could do would be to put Kenny Dalglish in charge. The game has changed so much since he was last a manager, and the club would never have the balls to get rid of him if (when) it started to go horribly wrong. As a manager it's been 15 years since he last had a good season, the game has changed far too much for him to still be relevant.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not sure about Ten Cate on his own Gerd. He's had very mixed results on his own, but very good results as an assistant (Chelsea and Barca).

Re: Liverpool Thread

Just read on Facebook:

Hodgson has been told to announce his resignation after the Napoli game Torres, Gerrard and Dalglish have stayed at Anfield to speak to Frank Rijkaard. Rijkaard to be announced manager tomorrow. Odds 4/7

Not sure how much truth in it, sounds plausible though.

Re: Liverpool Thread

At the moment they are all rumours.
I think a lot of fans want to see Hodgson go....and Rijkaard is
now available....

I find it amazing how so many media pundits are now coming out
and saying Hodgon needs time.
Carragher and Cole also doing the same.

I have not seen Torres do that....the guy has got sense.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Confirmed team: Reina, Kelly, Carragher, Skrtel, Konchesky, Poulsen, Spearing, Jovanovic, Shelvey, Babel, Ngog. BJ, SK, FA, DW, MR, JC, NE.

To clear up any confusion

BJ = Brad Jones
SK = Sotirios Kyrgiakos
FA = Fabio Aurelio
DW = Danny Wilson
MR = Maxi Rodriguez
JC = Joe Cole
NE = Nathan Eccleston

:LOL:

To be honest i'm not sure about tonight. All week i've had it in my head that we're gonna get embarassed tonight 3-0, but the team is strong enough to win, it just depends on the soft cunt in charge and his tactics.

Apparently Rijkaard's agent has said Liverpool haven't approached him and he's staying in Turkey.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The team has been strong enough to win all of the previous games under Hodgson though.

Not sure if Spearing and Shelvey will be strong and experienced enough tho.

On vacations or something ? Because he was sacked.
Aproaching a manager who has had bad results in the recent past would be a mistake, especially when you have Pellegrini avaivable, who had very good results in the last 4 teams he coached (San Lorenzo, River, Villarreal and Real Madrid).

Re: Liverpool Thread

so after the game i have mixed and more positive feelings about how we managed to play..

either Napoli were that bad or we actually played good, well it ended up draw but the performance was quite surprising, especialy from the young players like Spearing, Kelly and especialy Shelvey..

Ngog had solid chance for scoring and i wont mention Babel who just waisted a goal...

also Napoli had chances but we played basicly with 4 young players in attack..

i expected much worse..

4 times laugh, do you understand why?

Re: Liverpool Thread

I was reading somewhere that Hodgson can get lower-profile players to play better for him....as they are more open to his ideas.

But when it comes to bigger players.....he fails because of his old-fashioned tactics...

Which explains why he has more success with not so big teams like Fulham,
and he failed with Blackburn ( a team which had won the league)
and now failing with Liverpool's 1st team...

Anyway, this is the kind of result Hodgson can best hope for...the 0:0 away from home..
he did a lot of that with fulham....and he is doing the same here.
Hodgson is still not the manager we need to take Liverpool forward.
If we want to compete with bigger teams...we need Pellegrini or Rijkaard with money
handed to them so that they can attract good players to LFC.

Pellegrini's not available though. He's in the middle east somewhere ready to take over and has said he's not doing it til June next year.

Rijkaard is an underrated manager imo, he basically revived Barcelona from the relegation zone to fighting at the top again, he bought Ronaldinho and Eto'o and took Xavi from an €8m rated player to the best midfielder in the world.

one of the most important players that came to barca then was Edgar Davids...he gave Ronaldinho the space to perform... and the rest was history :)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Just as I guessed....all rumours about Hodgson resigning..
were just rumours.

In fact he says he will never resign.

He was happy with the performance as expected.

The only he will go is to be sacked.....but for that NESV needs some
time to figure out what is going on.

The fans have to come out like they did against Hicks.....and
protest against Hodgson.....that is the only way NESV may do something..
plus the players like Torres if they can let them know.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Not really

Alcorcon 4-0 Madrid

Pellegrini isn't that piece of art as you people paint here. Yeah, he did great job in Villareal but totally failed when calling to managed a big club. Yes, Madrid had many many points in last year but, in Madrid, all is about winning and he failed in that chapter. I assume Liverpool fans are expecting pretty much the same - winning.

I agree with you UJSupanova. Rijkaard is an underrated manager. He did a very good job in Barcelona when they were too far from Madrid and Valencia at the time. In my opinion he is the right person to your job.

Re: Liverpool Thread

torres will leave for manu, it's almost a fact
there are specuations about russian striker kerzhakov coming to liverpool, i think he plays for zenit, he didn't do too well in europe though (kinda failed at sevilla), might be just another voronin
btw liverpool will have 60mil to spend on transfers this winter so stay positive

Right, I forgot about that. Anyway, he also did a great job in San Lorenzo and River Plate.
About Madrid. first of all, he wasnt the one behind the transfers, so (and this is something Pellegreni has said a lot of times) he wouldnt have sold Robben. He said one day in Marca "I did 96 points playing without wings, with wings we would have been champions". It is something that you cant never really know, but I think that Robben in one wing and Ronaldo in the other one, would have been impressive and could have make a difference, instead of improvising Kaka in one wing just because Florentino Perez wanted the icon of in Madrid.
About the Champions League, for me he doesnt have any blame. Come on, Real Madrid were dominating the game and had A LOT of chances, the fowards (specially Higuain) didnt take them and then Lyon scored ten minutes before the end of the game.

mate read less gossip papers, true is our current manager said stupid coments, but you have to think we dont have stupid owners anymore, that would sell the star player to main rivals.. ;)

your bold text emphasis is totally misplaced.

just wait and see how torres goes to manu, as liverpool fan it'll break your heart but that's how business goes, torres has too high salary for pool in current condition, he's not dedicated to the club like gerard and will go.

john w henry said that he won't spend much, it's no arab money like mancity but he did say that if it's necessary there will be up to 60mil available for the winter transfers (compared to mancity standards 60mil ain't much).
