Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

Since joining the club in the summer Aquilani has made just three substitute appearances, but Benitez is adamant he will not rush the former Roma man.

"He is a player who needs to settle down," he said. "We are watching him in every training session and he is improving and doing well.

"He can only get match fitness by playing. We were hoping to play him in the reserves the other day but the game was postponed, so we have to carry on and then he will have a chance against Fiorentina."

SO FUCKING PLAY HIM THEN! :BRICK:

Re: Liverpool Thread

 KRAP! Shows how crap the teams are around you though that 4th is very easy to get still.

Re: Liverpool Thread

chels lost back 2 back too  giving Rover`s a massive lift in confidence .To me that very important that changes the dynamic mentally. City prove it even though they beat a lesser side of Arsenal

I know, all this nonsense about how spurs are really pushing for 4th is pretty stupid imo. They are likely to be in the best form of their season, Liverpool are in their worst this decade and even then they were only a win ahead before this weekends matches (a win they earned over Liverpool). Once Liverpool get their arses back into gear I can't see anyone of them challenging.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Spurs won't threaten, but I'm still unsure over City. They've managed to keep their first XI pretty healthy, and that is a very, very impressive first XI. If Hughes can get them winning, they could be pretty high up the table come May.

I agree Pool should come good, but they need to start doing it soon! At this rate you're going to have to de-priotise the Europa league if it's before a key league clash on a Saturday :(

? I'm pretty sure it couldn't get any lower then it is already :D

Don't think ManCity will do much either (less the Spurs imo), the ego's in that team couldn't careless about the club or winning matches against the lesser teams. That's why they've only shown up for the big ones.

Re: Liverpool Thread

SO FUCKING PLAY HIM THEN! :BRICK:
I know, it's absurd that it's December and he hasn't played any substantial part in any match. I get the feeling he's gonna be this seasons Robbie Keane by which I mean when he does play he'll be the first to get substituted no matter how he's playing.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The thing is that he is in training everyday, so Rafa should have a decent idea about his ability from that. I can't help but feel that if he was astounding during practice, he would be getting time on the pitch, regardless of his overall fitness. Then again, trying to think like Rafa has never really been a strong point...

There's a possibility that, like Keane, Aquilani has arrived at the club and it's turned out he doesn't fit into the squad as Rafa expected.

Either way, I don't think it's simply a case of Aquilani not being match fit, it doesn't make sense. You can't go saying he's not fit, he needs games, but not give him any gametime to improve it.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah pretty much..........:(

As for Aquilani, do we really want him to get match fitness at a kickfest that is playing a Fat Sam team?! I wouldn't take a chance either, we all know he's likely to be a bit lightweight and is injuryprone so playing him in very physical matches isn't a good way to bed him in. That's why our final CL match this season is a perfect oppertunity, neither team have anything to play for and he's used to Italians. If he doesn't get any gametime then it's getting a bit odd.......

Re: Liverpool Thread

But EVERY game in the Premier League is a physical game, regardless of the team. If he wants to leave Aquilani out because the team plays aggressively, then we'll have wasted £20m on a player who might play 6 games a season.

Torres is pretty much made of wet paper and he handles himself okay in the physical games, Aquilani needs to get used to it like Torres did.

I reckon we wont see Aquilani start on Wednesday, but we might see him come on in the 60th min. He'll probably play Spearing or someone first. Same with Torres, very much doubt he'll start.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah but he has to have time to get used to it without getting injured. It's a balance between getting match fit and getting prem match fit. I would have expected more sub appearances then we have had so far though.

And Torres isn't weak, he's a big strong guy. He's Overworked.

Re: Liverpool Thread

According to Aquilani's father (one of the physios at Roma) he has been fit for a month and can't understand why Rafa won't play him.

If that's the case I can understand his frustration, he has barely even made late substitute appearances and it's not like you've been putting in flawless performances and Rafa just doesn't want to disrupt the team.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hope we get to see a good run-out for Aquilani, after all we probably won't see him again untill the summer pre-season friendlies.

Haha

Really though, can't wait to see how Gerrard and Aquilani work together. Should compliment each other perfectly, on paper. Gerrard's all about power, pace, athleticism, while Aquilani is more class, elegant on the ball, and more technical. And both have a real physical presence (ideal Rafa players). Should be good. Hope to see Pacheco get a run as well.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah they should work well together, from what I saw in the Arsenal match he has far more intelligence then the other players on the pitch at the time. Seemed to be able to read the game far better.

Re: Liverpool Thread

He's an incredibly talented player, I'll tell you that. Let's hope he keeps fit.

It's not really about disrupting the team. It's simple really, Aquilani hadn't played for a long time, and he's joined a faster and stronger league than his previous one. The last few games were against Blackburn and Everton, not ideal for someone who needs sharpness and to avoid injury or mistakes. If he'd played against Everton and then made a mistake due to his lack of sharpness and cost us the game, can you imagine the stick both he and Rafa would get?

Rafa's been protecting him from that i think, he's been hoping we'd be 2 or 3 up against the smaller teams so he can bring him on but unfortunately we've been playing shite. Now we've got a meaningless game tonight it's ideal for him.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Been impressed with Aquilani so far, looks very composed and some very nice touches. Impressed with his attacking attitude as well.

Can't say that about the rest of the team though, pretty awful otherwise. Kuyt still refuses to stay up front so Fiorentina's defence don't have to even worry about marking a striker. Benayoun has showed glimpses but nobody has looked particularly good. Losing too much possession for my liking.
