Liverpool Thread

Re: Liverpool Thread

I never want to hear another Liverpool fan say anything about us getting late goals and dodgy ref decisions to change the game.

Was it a bad tackle or Lucas stumbled? I can't remember. *Seriously*

I think if it ended as a draw, Rafa'll get ALOT of stick. Or even the boot. Is it just me or Ger has no energy these days? He was in the middle of the park with nobody on him at 2-1 down and he looks around to see who to pass to.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Hmm, close shave that one. Still things arent right. But we can't get any worse.

We were on top before the sending off, and Bolton were dirtier than a hookers mouth. They had the audacity to mouth off to the ref. Remember, Mascherano got sent off for something similair..... Thing is you need to pressure referees in groups because they wont send half the team off....

Think we are too susceptible to dirty physical teams, like Arsenal last season. Carragher has been abysmal this season, totally dominated in the air and his casual reading of the game has turned into panic defending.

Oh and Gerrard did one good thing in the game and it won it for us....

In the long term. Okay, we've made it harder for ourselves in the title race, but we wont finish outside the top four, even with Spurs playing like they are. We can't get any worse. We have KEY players to come back including our major summer signing. These early season injuries have decimated areas of our team where you need continuity at such a key stage of the season. Cant see anyone stopping Chelsea now though.

Johnson is brilliant :) Reira played well, and suprise suprise, Kryiakos despite two hairy moments was solid at the back and a big threat from set pieces.

Torres's general play has been awful but 3 in 4 with no summer rest and a young-un keeping him up all night he can only get better, and then the 4-2-3-1 will really come into its own.

Three very good goals to watch on MOTD boys. Johnson is a constant goal threat, and can shoot from distance. Kuyt's layoff, Torres's touch and finish and then Torres's knockdown for Gerrard's sublime volley. Lovely!

EDIT- Just cover your eyes for the Bolton goals......horrible basic defending.

Oh and Kevin Davies is an orrible dirty cunt:RANT:

Horrible first half. Gerrard was brilliant in the second half and that was the reason of our win.
Just hope that in two weeks Alberto is ready.

Wow, Petrov mate - keep holding those straws. If that's a yellow card offense, Macherano should never play football again. And what happened to the FIFA rule about waving imaginary cards?!

Lucas really IS the new Alonso...

(good win though)

Re: Liverpool Thread

Well if he keeps it up (1/4) he'll get another 9 sent off this season.

Don't know why you are complaining (well besides being mancs) as he was free looking to attack and the guy (however accidental it was, although you know where you are running and if you are gonna clip someone) trips him up. He stop a possibly very dangerous attack (although he should know better as it's Lucas). He shouldnt have been so stupid already being on a yellow and knowing Lucas is gonna look for the foul.

Besides the Spurs match Liverpool haven't been too bad, as a team. It's just such poor defending for nearly every goal thats been punished everytime. Spurs corner, Villa's 3, and one for Bolton with the second being shite defending aswell. So thats 7 goals conceded to very poor defending and one good goal scored. If the defense would have been their normal selves we would have conceded probably 2 or 3 goals instead of the 7 making it 9points from 4. Spurs were just better and deserved the win.

Still think something needs to be done as most teams have been pretty confortable containing Torres and Gerrard across a match.

Has the defense coach left or something?!

right. He was already booked for a bookable challenge. Then he fouled Lucas on purpose when he threatened to break through with Liverpool players outnumberng defenders in the final third (and this is from behind) Boobable offence without all the mouth.:OOOH:

Re: Liverpool Thread

You won't finish out the top four but your quite clearly the weakest of the top 4 currently. Your squad depth is fecking shocking though! City, Spurs have better in that department.

Re: Liverpool Thread

The comebacks are back! Yay!

I'd say apart from the first half against Spurs, we've played well in all our games. But our set piece defending is shocking! We've got the 2nd worst defensive record in the league. That needs sorting.

Apart from that, Johnson was brilliant. AGAIN. Too early to say, but the 17M is looking like a bargain.

Kyrgiakos was very good. Looks like a real leader on the pitch. Good signing.

Lucas did his job again, very well. Never lost the ball, won it back quickly, made a few incisive passes (on another day, his through ball to Torres would have resulted in a goal), got into the box as well.

Gerrard and Torres were awful again, but just goes to show you how good they are, that they scored again. Torres is having his worst form in a Liverpool shirt, yet has 3 goals in 4 matches.

Not the ideal start, but I think we're playing decent enough, with room for improvement. Aquilani, Agger, and Aurelio are to return, and you'd think they're very important players for the type of football Rafa now wants us to play. Aquilani, especially, would be immense in the role Lucas is playing at the moment. We've got a break, so hopefully, the team works on their set pieces, and Gerrard and Nando find some form.

It's just 4 games, and it's ridiculous to write us off.

Re: Liverpool Thread

our depth it the same as it was last year. I'd rather it was better, because most clubs around us have improved their squads, but its hardly shocking. We were beat twice last year with that shocking bench people are talking about and we came from behind and scored more late goals than anyone else, surely a bench influences that?

The only area lacking is a backup for Johnson and another experienced striker IMO. But take Spurs for example, at the start of the season, Hoddle, Gray etc were banging on about their strength in depth, particularly in the CF position. Well, now it looks Like Pavyluchenko isnt happy being a bench player and wants out, how long until Crouch thinks the same, he got plenty of appearances for us and scored enough goals, but he wasnt starting and he eventually got fed up, particulary if Harry persists in the inferior Defoe/Keane partnership.

The only way we'd be able to have experienced front player is 1. The Americans release the profit Rafa has consistently made for him to spend on the squad. 2. We change the system to a 4-3-3 or something like that (not gonna happen, this is Rafa)

Was reading 606 and how people are getting sexuallly excited about Chelsea under Anceloti..because they won four games. Against Hull, Burnley, Fulham and Sunderland.

Do they honestly not remember Scolari last year? Got off to a flyer if I remember.

Couple of bad results later, a loss at Anfield and hes out of the club

TOO EARLY TO MAKE WILD JUDGEMENTS.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Yeah I agree about Chelsea, was thinking the same last night when MOTD was on, can't believe how easily they've forgotten what happened with Scolari last season.

And about the 'profit' the American's haven't released, your MD Purslow said this the other day...
"We've spent pretty much the same as we've spent every year over the past four or five years,"

"We've spent about £20 million more than we've generated, which is what we expected.

"We've bought players the manager wanted to buy and sold players the manager wanted to sell and it has cost us almost to the penny what we expected it to cost.

"In fact, some of our competitors haven't spent any money and we have. Spending isn't the panacea everyone thinks it is, but we've spent £20 million and that's real money.

"There are lots of costs associated with buying players and extending players that all go into transfer funds."

So maybe there isn't any money that Rafa is owed? You've renewed a few of the key players contracts too which will have signing on fee's etc attached so maybe Hicks & Gillet are not to blame here.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Oh and good news

Fabio Aurelio is back in training. Competition for Insua can only be a good thing. His passing abillity from the back, crossing and set piece taking is going to be vital this season.

Re: Liverpool Thread

When Agger is back, Carragher is going to keep playing ? He is being responsible in practically every goal they scored to us. I want to see the greek and Agger playing together.

Re: Liverpool Thread

well yup, Carra has been horrendus in the last few games. Might be his last full season with us.

Hopefully the operation will give Agger more playing time. And yes, him and Skrtel is the partnership.

Re: Liverpool Thread

apparently Clarks in Liverpool have ordered in more size 10's. As we all know David Villa is a size 10. Put your house on it :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Looking at your sig Peter, ridiculous how effective he has been in those games. Had any midfielder or striker produced that record the media would be falling over themselves to hype him up. Tbh I'm glad they aren't so it doesn't add too much expectation.

Oh and great news that Villa is signing for us! :D

Re: Liverpool Thread

Purslow is the yanks puppet. I wouldnt believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

It looks like he is the banks puppet, Gillet was apparently not too happy at his appointment.

As far as transfers go he is obviously on the same page as Rafa. He played hardball with Real Madrid over the Alonso transfer fee.

to milk as much money for the banks/owners no doubt.

Rafa was playing hardball to get as much money as possible for a replcement/reinforcments.

Re: Liverpool Thread

Rumours abound that Standard Chartered Bank are going to replace Carlsberg as Liverpool's main sponsor, they rivalled AON in bidding for the sponsorship of Man Utd and so they will be able to meet or better the £15m a year Liverpool are asking for which Carlsberg seemingly can't afford to offer.

I'm a bit sad about it tbh, i've pretty much grown up with Carlsberg on the Liverpool shirt, ok my first couple of kits had Candy on the front but most of my life as an active Liverpool fan has included shirts with Carlsberg on the front. I've grown very fond of their logo on the front and i don't like the logo that Standard Chartered uses, even in white i don't think it'd look as good.

actually...in the process of typing this i thought i'd see what it'd look like and just had a quick go at mocking it up in photoshop, doesn't look too bad in the end, might be ok...

Well, well! Looks like that's our new shirt then! £80m deal over four years, joint highest shirt sponsorship deal along with United :SMUG:
