i think 3-4 years? point is, ever since he started challenging for the title, he has challenged most of the time just like wenger and that is my point about benitez. you cant say his a title winner material until he challenges for it in most seasons and wins it.

It could all fall apart with you lot next season mate then what?

Ferguson joined in 1986, winning his first title in 1992, so 6 years. Benitez joined liverpool in 2004 and is in with a chance of winning a league title now.

Well we were near the relegation zone when he took over and finished 11 in his first season, 2nd in his second.

You were 3rd or 4th when Rafa came in and anyway it's 20 years apart, football was so different back then, it's such a lazy argument.

Technically won his first title in 93, almost won it in 92 but we fell away at the end and Leeds took it.

I'm just pointing out that you can't expect managers to walk into teams and have instant success. We're a MUCH, MUCH better team than we were before Benitez took over and that can't be questioned.

dagsJT getting some stick all cause he said he likes Rafa , and Mr. sack wenger points that out lol whatever... I think pool are playing superb their passing and movement is good. Rafa can get it right he`s won FaCup,and CL so he`s closer today then yesterday :YAWN:

you've been pretty succesful this year, i think you're playing better football now than when you won the cl. your team is definitely better and with a couple more pieces could be challenging for the league year in year out.

Why is everyone having such a pointless discussion here? Sir Alex took our team from finishing 11th to finishing 2nd in the space of 3-4 years. Rafa took a team that was already good and improved on it. I'd class him in the same league as Mourinho but theres no way you can honestly convince someone without lying to yourself that Rafa can be compared to Sir Alex. His track record, his trophy cabinet, his man management, his use of youth players, etc is something not many managers in the world can compete with.

Rafa took over a poor team that was overachieving and has built a quality team which is now capable of challenging at the top and with a couple of additions can definitely be one of the best in the world.

Is it even worth comparing Rafa to Whiskeynose when Ferguson's been there for 23 years and Rafa's only been here for 5 years?

He was trying to compare Fergie's and Rafa's 5 years in charge but that's not gonna be fair due the changing of the game these past 2 decades. But he tried ..

What is the point of Lucas?! Havent seen him do anything of note besides being lazy in a challenge. He has no speed, he mostly passes 10yards to the side or back, he can't shoot, he's not strong.......So why play him behind Torres?! Really don't see the point, put Kuyt/beni there and Babel or Reira on the left and you'll have far more speed in attack and more strenght in possesion. And they can all shoot, well beni doesn't untill he's beaten atleast 5 or 6 players but when he does he has a good shot!
