Re: Killzone 2 PS3
From the first video I saw about this, I thought it would be a very very nice game with horribly boring gameplay at long term. It's the meat and potatoes of shooters with very nice effects, but nothing more than that.
I knew that videogames would tend to be like hollywood blockbusters, with a nice look and terrible dumbed-down script. And this game is the perfect example. There is no creativity at all in this game (as there isn't in many others, by the way) and it's a shame they produce such beauties without a soul.
Some reviews and opinions always state this "uninspired" game design, and I can't understand how the hell a game that is done for 5 years with 135 people working on it, most of them hardcore gamers themselves... how can't they see the game needs SOME innovation? Some originality?
You have to be really a hardcore FPS-lover to finish those games with linear levels. I finished COD4 because there was some change in gameplay now and then, but really got bored at times with all the scripted and triggered things that those games have taken as a standard:
- Not only the level design is linear, but the things you have to do can be done only in a certain way. You have no freedom as a player.
- The "health" problem: at the start of videogaming you had 3 lifes and your mental health to finish a game. Then there were medikits everyware. Now, the standard is you get shot, you go to a corner to recover and you're totally fit again! It seems dumb to me.
- There's a weapon cache with rockets JUST in the place where an enemy tank spawns
- The enemies come spawning unitl you reach some point
- Your AI mates kill people but won't solve any kind of situtaion. In fact, they are totally useless, they do nothing you can't and only add the odd getting in your path and having to save them things
Well, maybe all of this is useless talking, I know. It may be a genre-related kind of hatred that has grown in me lately. But creativity costs less than all this HDR effects they put in games and offer nothing new.
That said, I reckon the game looks incredible, but I'm onto gaming, not computer generated graphics. Shadow of the Colossus or Psychonauts totally own this game.
