Grand Theft Auto VI [Coming Nov 19 2026] News & Discussion

No disc in the box for "physical", 80 dollars in the US (EU/UK price still not out I think), single player only at launch.

Unfortunately it also seems some content is locked behind the ultimate edition.
Shitty practices from Rockstar. increase base game price, no physical so no second hand market, lock content behind higher prices.

I really hope this doesn't push other companies to get rid of physical media

Physical media was always going to die at some point.
Alot of games now are getting larger than physical media can cope with and the transfer speed of drives for install and gameplay are slower than most peoples internet.

I don't know if it is because I game on PC and games have been digital since 2004, but physical media should of died on console long before 2026.

I'm shocked but I don't know why - it makes perfect business sense. If you don't have the money, you can still buy and play the "basic" game. But everyone is going to buy the edition with the most content.

It's evil genius.

EDIT:

It is a shame that we can’t legitimately own a copy of the game, instead we’re buying a license to play.

That being said if they were to do a limited release in the future it would be cool, but going digital only is good news for Rockstar themselves. There won’t be any shortages, everyone gets to play without the worry of running short on physical media.

I vaguely remember GTA IV and RDR 1 being hard to obtain because stores in the UK like Game, HMV, Tesco, and Asda being sold out within the first day.

Just in case I do end up buying it. What would the console experts recommend? Which console should I buy it for – the PS5 Pro or the Xbox Series X? From various perspectives, such as performance, graphics, controls, and so on.
I own both consoles but can’t make up my mind myself.

Thanks in advance!

They work with PS to be "Plays Best in PS5" (Haptic feedback, Tempest 3D audio, integrated speaker) and is announced to be PS5 Pro Enhanced

Check this https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/grand-theft-auto-vi/

So the single player is coming first, does that mean they double dip for the online?
It’s a good question, I know the past two games RDR2 and GTA V both released their multiplayers a couple of weeks later but whether it’s going to be free or not is a different story. Rockstar acquired cfx.re a few years ago (the team behind FiveM) so It could be a big deal when the eventually announce online.

From what I’m seeing it’s looking like PS5/Pro, there was a blog saying it will have near instant loading times, plus haptics etc

Ultimate only featuring clothes and gimmicks is fine for me. Gameplay exclusives ultimate edition would suck.
Disc is probably coming later. Maybe it’s to not have any disc “found” in customers hands before release date?!

The PS5 Pro is going to be easily the best console to play it on. The performance is greater than the XSX for sure, and supports better upscaling which apparently makes some games look amazing. (I own a Xbox myself, but this is what I've heard)
