Gran Turismo 5

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Ah balls, I'm going to have to buy this tonight.

EDIT: Oh no I won't. £20 in the shops and £25 online? What the fuck? That's unreal. You've got to be stupid to pay that.

You certainly have :))

No option to sell it on either rather have disk version. :))

I should rent it first, the difference between opinions is astounding. I've read the controls are still too twitchy, which drives me mad and I wouldn't play the game if it was like that. Then I read your experiences with it and I'm desperate to get it.

Why the hell couldn't they have released a demo? What is it with the lack of demos across both next-gen consoles lately?

£20? Where?
In every British store, online and offline, from what I gather.

This game has split opinion across whole internet tbh every forum you go on well game wise there is people who like it and dont.

All i can say is my video posted above speaks for itself the cars are not twitchy at all for me it requires smooth control and all is good. :))

But if you dont want to use professional physics stick it on standard which is totally arcade and your stuck to track like super glue.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I´m really tempted to buy it directly from PSN!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Some new information.

At a recent PSN event, we were able to talk to the producers of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue about their upcoming title and get a few more details on the anticipated racer. While we've known for a while that the Blu-ray version of the game would exclusively have the Beyond the Apex feature, we were told that the disc version of the game would also have a lot more cinematics included, such as video course guides of the real-life tracks, as well as the opening and ending movie. Many of these elements won't be included within the initial download of the game from the PSN, although we were told that some of these items would eventually find their way onto Gran Turismo TV, the racing specific channel that will be included within the game.

Much more than a simple news feed updating players on races that are online, GT TV will host lots of licensed television footage, such as episodes of Top Gear and Best Motoring (a popular Japanese drift series). It may also be a showcase for car manufacturers to highlight their upcoming product lines, highlighting a specific vehicle from its R&D phase to its release. GT TV could even potentially become a place for car fans to upload video of their own tuned and modified cars, highlighting their vehicles for other racing fans to see. Since much of it is still up for discussion, much of the online space for the game is still being decided by Polyphony Digital.

In fact, we were told that GT5 Prologue will initially launch with a rather basic online service that will allow up to 16 players to get on and play, but not much more than that. As time goes on, however, players will receive updates that could include new features, racetracks and even gameplay modes. While there is no specific schedule planned for the updates, Polyphony Digital is planning on making sure that all regions will receive practically all of the same content at the same time. There will be some minor elements that will be regionally exclusive (such as music tracks), but for the most part, Europe and Japan will receive an update to match the most recent version of the game that will be released in North America on April 15th.

We were also told that Polyphony is still looking at GT5 Prologue as an experimental testbed for features that will eventually make their way into Gran Turismo 5, which we were told would probably be released in Summer 2009. While they don't know exactly how they plan on using the game to experiment in this manner, they are definitely planning on transferring a player's progress and hard work in Prologue to GT5 when it's eventually released. However, at this time, they're not sure if it will be a save file, credit or car transfer to the final title. We'll have more on Gran Turismo 5 and GT5 Prologue as soon as it becomes available.

Looks like we will be getting the extra cars North America will be receiving on 15th April.

Hopefully they sorted online update system by then but wont hold my breathe considering not been fixed from Jap to Pal. Seriously one of worst update system i have seen no idea why its keeps erroring so much would love to know.

Anyway think its got a bright future more tracks and content for free would be nice but dont think it will happen but nice to be surprised.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Fuck! The Portuguese PSN store is selling it for £31,60 (39,99 €):|
Is it possible to buy anything in the UK store with a non-uk credit card?

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

No idea but people make USA accounts in UK and use credit card i think so must be able to.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Don't think it's possible cb7, I have to use a card with no address registered to it to buy stuff from the US PSN, otherwise it says "you don't live here, access denied".

By the way, I can't believe ShopTo have raised the price...

...because GAMEPLAY HAVE LOWERED IT.

£18, yes please. I think I'll buy it from here.

That's a saving of £7 from PSN, if you're happy throwing £7 away then can you send some my way please? I accept Paypal.

WOW!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Ah, just realised why:

"On order with supplier: Could be over 14 days"

SAME PRICE AT PLAY.COM, and "out of stock" as well. But from what I gather it's £20 at retail - DJ bought his from Woolworths and I think he said it cost him £20?

EDIT: GAME STILL HAVE IT IN STOCK FOR £20 - tempting, seeing as nowhere is going to have it soon...

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Yeah but it says: "Should be delivered on or before Tuesday 08th April 2008"

Just got to hope they have it in stock at the shop, I'll nip down there tomorrow. There's a Woolworths just down the road, but the nearest GAME is a couple of miles away.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Ye bet there be wanting full price in shop that comes from Jersey and they are tax free like Play who also selling cheap but your have it arrive Christmas 2009.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

you could always trade something in at gamestation and get it cheaper that way?

I cant remember the last time i actually paid cash for a game (other than ordering rockband)

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Yep, that's what I've done for yonks, but I actually have nothing to trade for the first time in a long time now. I could trade in the Xbox Live camera I suppose but I'd only regret it.

I'm tempted just to buy it on PSN now because I'm an impatient git and it's out of stock everywhere, but I'll most likely wait and see if my local Woolies has it.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Get the disc version - if you despise it you can always take it back and say the misses bought it for you earlier or yesterday but you already have it

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Rang Blockbuster at half eight, they said they had one in for £20. So I thought, stuff it, I asked her to put it away in my name. It's raining, but I'll walk down there (it's a mile and half there). I've got £20 burning a hole in my pocket and I've got nothing better to do this evening.

So I get down there, soaked but cheerful, and say "hi, I rang about Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 before, I asked you to put it away in my name?" She looked at me like a small alien was climbing out of my ear, waving a small banner that said "bumsex rules okay" before eating it's own children. I repeated myself, and she said "the guy who just walked out behind you said he rang for it, so I sold it to him."

"Did you ask him for his name?"

"No."

Cute. I was about to grab her head and smash it down on the counter until her eyes came out when she said, "I'll check and see if they have it in Birkenhead" - that's a lot further away, but I thought, I've got my mobile. I could get a lift. She checks the computer and miraculously, they have one. So I said thank you, and got my lift.

We get down there, I walk in and explain that they have one in stock and that I want to buy it. "We don't have it in stock", the little pukestain behind the counter assures me. "She shouldn't have used the computer to check that." Well, what the fuck is the feature there for then? Is it something a programmer did for a fucking laugh? No it isn't, so shut up while I kick you endlessly in the testicles.

I explained (the amount of explaining I had to do to Blockbuster employees tonight, you'd think they were stupid little brats who knew nothing about real life or something), "I've just been told you have it in stock, she checked the stock levels, you must have it". "We have one copy that's been reserved for a member of staff. I could check Liverpool for you if you want?" No. I don't want.

I was about to make him a proposition, his game or his life, when I decided that GT5P may not even be a game worth prison-time for. So I walked out, got in the car, realised that it had probably cost £5 in petrol to get there which I could have used to buy the game off PSN, and shed a small tear. Never mind son, never mind.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

wow - just had a go at this with all the assists set to off

It's a different bucket of fish all together!

It took a little while to adjust - but on my 3rd restart i got a feeling for it and was sliding around some corners, without feeling like the car would over steer at any second as i always had in GT HD --- and even when i balls'd it up and felt myself braking too late or id been a bit heavy handed and turned too hard - i felt in control enough to pull myself out of it and correct it.

well braking too late meant i was off the track or into the wall - thats unavoidable

The cars felt like they had much more grip as well - turning on the track didn't feel slippery and the ride felt smoother and less twitchy

Any ideas why with the assists on your tyres feel like they're as bald as as a baby's arse?

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Right well after that I'll definitely be getting it tomorrow, if Woolies has one left. If anyone wants to share their downloaded copy with me before I blow £20 let me know. ;)

(Worth a try...)

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I feel bad Jack! Cos I was complaining today to my GF that I really wanna wait to play GT5 properly until Monday when my wheel turns up, she has actually confiscated it and hidden it away!!!!!

So I have a disk copy here in the house, but I dont know where :(

Omg that was truely amazing what bunch of bloody idiots but then again thing with these stores half of people working for them have no clue.

Not sure i would of kept so calm if that was me especially a wasted journey aswell to top it off. :SHAKE:

All assists off is only way to go but it takes some getting used to especially with higher end cars the drifts you can do are absolute insane at times.

Tyre selection is a big part of this game imo Sports 3 the car feels more free and open but put some racing R3 on car feels more rigid not so open.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

?

1: You can redefine the pad to whatever layout you want, be it shoulder buttons for accelerate or whatever. Fine done that

2: The game handles PERFECTLY well with the analogue sticks, if you are constantly Over/UnderSteering, then you need to practise more. Umm I was DELIBERATELY oversteering and understeering to get a Feel for the car and WASNT feeling what I expected to... You should listen to what I say.

3: The physics on Pro Simulation are great, turn off ALL driving Aids, they Hinder performance imo, just practise a bit more if you are having troubles.I have and read my posts since my video.... yes the game has improved but its STILL some way off what I think it should be..

4: The car weighting feel is Perfect for me. Example i can drift the Suzuki Cappucino and The R35 GTR07 all day long, but the feel is so different whilst doing it.Ok I can drift in a Cappucino... what I dont like is it doesnt feel Natural like it does in Forza....

5: If you don't use the cockpit view, and use the externals then you are missing out on some of the joy of this game. Um ok but I find I cant play this using the Cockpit View.. it restricts my vision too much.

6:Forza 1 + 2 are good games ( I own both ), but they have always, and still do, feel a bit too arcade for me. With this statement you have proved you know nothing about Simulations.... Forza is 10 times MORE a simulator than GT has EVER been (Again my opinion and others who know about physics agree with me)

7: If you really want to play a TRUE racing simulation, then get GTR2 or RFactor for PC.
I have got GTR2... and guess what? It feels 10 times better than Gran Turismo :)

See my responses next to yours...

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

dj mate, you need to get INSIDE the car. how you play from behind like that, i'll never know... :)
