Gran Turismo 5

No idea but they're saying this isn't a demo of the real GT5 despite the message saying it is a 'GT5 demo' when you start the time trial up.

Is that the official word Rad? Could just be fanboys on the forums insisting its not when it actually is.

Well on GTPlanet they're saying: "PD has posted a new press release, clearly stating the demo was "specifically designed for the competition to showcase the realism of the brand-new physics engine."

Kind of agree with Rad here.

More realistic <> more fun.

No matter how much you try to convince people JM because you race PC 'sims', making games more realistic is definitely not more fun (for most).

I love sims though, but something like GP3 on the PC was about the right balance. It gave the illusion of being a realistic sim, but the physics model was pretty ropey at best, best still, it was a blast and considered one of the best racing games of all time.

(Anyways JM, after our Evo Web Forza 3 night a few months back, I think we all agreed to disregard any opinion on have on 'sim' racing as you drove like a pissed nun having a fit!)

wtf is your problem? im not trying to convince anyone. All im saying is that if a game is catered for realism and adds features such as if you crash your fucked then how the FUCK is that a bad thing?

If you dont like realism then thats your problem mate. Its not a problem about the game. The game is catered for realism and there are games catered for fun. Judge a game for what it is and not what you are wanting it to be.

I dont like arcade racing games for example so its unfair for ME to expect a arcade racer to be as realistic as say Rfactor :LMAO:

O and IMO GT5 is not even that realistic. its as realistic as Forza 3 IMO but not a shade over Rfactor.

i have not played prolouge but i can say that this game as it is, is really good. Graphics could be better and a few otehr things could be tightened up but overal its a very good game as it is at its current state.

Impressive feature set, all we need now is a release date.

All I wanted was IndyCar (or any other open wheel racing league) and I got it. This is going to be the definitive racing game.

OMG!! IRL - get in! Cannot wait for this now - tracks as well? Awesomeness!

Reckon we'll get a release this decade year?

They wont. They will make it realistic and realism as you have pointed out is not fun for you.

If your looking for a arcade racing game, dont bother with this.

Surely it can be fun and retain some realism though? They've managed it before with the GT games and only screwed up when they came over to the PS3. I don't want an arcade racer, I want Gran turismo just like it used to be. You used to be able to zip your cars around the tracks on the older GT games and have fun while still holding onto the feeling that nothing was arcadey. You could power slide but you'd always know you were an inch away from spinning out and losing control.

Realism can be a hell of a lot of fun - but you at least have to get the basic handling of a car to feel like it isn't on ice with bald tires with the atmosphere of an empty room which is what we've been shown so far from GT HD, Prologue and the time trial demo. I want to be able to drive forwards, brake and turn into the first corner and just know that it all feels right.... it feels fun. So far GT on PS3 hasn't done that for me UNTIL I've gone into the car setups and tweaked them a ton, turned some assists on and others off and then suddenly it works.

I don't understand why the game HAS to be realistic - but yet at the same time that 'realism' tag line doesn't extend throughout the game. The only realistic part of the game is the handling so we're told. If you find you're crashing and spinning out a lot 'oh it's because it's realism'. But yet you can smash into a wall at 100mph and live and everyone just accepts that because 'it wouldn't be fun to die if you crash once'.

Erm.. yeah and it's not fun to have sterile handling and cars that don't feel fun to drive. But yet no one cares about that.

Why not just make the best damn racing game that ANYONE can pick up and play and love, but if you're a master of the game you can go into the advanced settings and tweak the cars so everything feels more realistic, everything is less on rails and less assisted AND those who do that obviously gain an advantage over the assistsed guys who change nothing the same way manual gears is better than automatic.

That way you appeal to everyone and make the most money - or they go the Killzone 2 Dev route... also known as the 'We're too far up out own arse holes to admit we're wrong' route... and make a game that only they like and they couldn't care less what the majority of gamers want... as long as the die hards are happy.

Mate no one wants the old GT type games on ps2. people say they were worser. Forza has set the benchmark for console racing sims and this si what GT5 are aiming to do, to crush forza and other competitors.

Yea like we both agree on, realism can be fun too. I hoighly suggest you try a wheel because this game is designed to be played on a wheel. Also, dont forget that he gt5 demo had most assists OFF. put them on in the full game and im sure you wil be power sliding and shit like in past GT games with ease.

In terms of tracks feeling empty well i agree. it does feel empty. maybe the full game will have more going on in each track? dont forget, it is a 200mb demo after all.

Thats not even half the size of fifa/PES demo.

Make loads of aids and options to make driving piss easy while when you take off all aids off, it drives very close to the real thing. this will make everyone happy indeed

I wonder if they've carried over the track from GT4 and re-rendered it in HD, or whether they've gone and remodelled the whole thing for more accuracy?

Either way, I cannot wait for this game, especially just to see it on a 40" 1080p screen.

Just wish they'd ban people from playing it in chase cam so we can have less complaints about the handling in that mode.

Ohhh the handling from behind the car on that chase cam is really strange. It's like super sensitive and you end up oversteering all the time.

It's like the car pivots instead of turns, as if it's attatched to a stick.

I don't think the earlier games were like that, so I don't know why it is the way it is.

Either way the chase cam is only good for admiring the graphics, otherwise noone should ever use it.

Thought the same with Prologue. "Drifting" in a corner was really odd, you would kind of stutter/slide with the mentioned front stick railing going on. In-car was a lot better, but that was because it masked the odd handling imo. You would still notice the stutter if you accelerated too fast.

I think they need more of those Mountain like tracks in GT, really enjoyed racing around that one, even if it was a bit short. The more open racing tracks just get a bit dull imo. Also gives less sense of speed as everything is further away from the car.

I dont know weather its down to the poor quality of clips but that Gallardo one i watched looks like its real

Playing Gran Turismo 5 At CES... In 3D!!!

gt5_3d.jpg

Sony's CES booth was heavy on 3D content, the current fancy of consumer electronics makers, including a playable 3D version of Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3. Does the Real Driving Simulator become even real-er when played in 3D?

Well, it certainly ups the challenge, as adjusting to a 3D display while coming to grips with Gran Turismo 5's impressive driving physics doubles the learning curve. But it certainly looks 3D with the PS3 game's HUD popping against a cockpit that simulates a real feeling of depth, from the steering wheel and driver's hands displaying in the foreground, down to the 3D vents in the dashboard.

It was impressive. But it was also a little bit disorienting. That may be due to my penchant for oversteering the Mazda that was available to take for a spin. And I mean that literally, as the braking in GT5 and the force feedback from locking up the tires sometimes sent be spinning wildly out of control. Readjusting my eyes to the 3D display afterward took longer than my eyes were comfortable with.

The 3D effect was, for lack of a better word, tastefully done, offering a sense of depth to the road ahead without much in the way of technical gimmickry. But it did have a drawback, as objects far in the distance and shadows cast on the car's interior introduced a more noticeable moiré pattern effect when viewed in 3D.

As a tech demo, GT5 in 3D was interesting, even if the extra visual tricks didn't add much substance to the experience.

Sony plans to update the PlayStation 3's firmware at some point in 2010 to introduce 3D content—reps said "summer"—if you'd like to test out 3D gaming yourself. That is, if you've got the TV and glasses to go along with it...

Shit... I just got my tv not long ago. Can't afford buying another one for 3D.. I thought all we need is a pair of glasses.

Don't worry about it, 3D TVs will take at least a couple of years to iron out any issues and become cheap enough to make worthwhile. :)

Why do they still bother with the Nurburgring?! It's been in nearly every racer the past decade! And it's not even a good racetrack, with the length and lack of width Ive always ended up racing on my own somewhere.....

I think it's the go to track for testing performance cars Tik, so they have to have it, nearly every manufacturer takes their top models there...
