Gran Turismo 5

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

The whole series seems to have stalled because of this one installment.

I can bet my bottom dollar that it's going to be great but the time taken to develop this has been absolutely ridiculous.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

You say that but if PES/FIFA did that, I would be ecstatic.

The wait would be a nightmare but if the game was mind-blowing then I would support it 110%.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I don't know if I can play something like GT again though. I think GT2 took it all out of me with those endurance races. I don't think I could ever get myself interested enough again to do them all again. and I don't see them giving this GT a different structure so it's more like a career.

I'd have loved for them to do a real full on rally section and then a real full on nascar where you can just play those and feel like it's a full game of its own. But really I can't see this game being anything more than a HD version of GT2/3 where those rally stages are just random pointless one off events where winning unlocks a car and nothing more.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

i doubt it rad because nascar and WRCC seems to be fully licenced(confirmed by the trailer) so i wont be surprised if you can do a seperate career mode in those racing series. i also wouldnt be surprised if they added F1 into it.

damage model shown and tbh it looks better than forza 3's damage model. the game also looks more real in terms of colour contrast and light effects.

This is coming from someone who doesnt like any of the GT games

o and a short preview of the game. not all cars will have damage and no porshe

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

More like natal sounds like head tracking because head tracking in games has been done for years on the pc and on the playstaions Eye Toy

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

better damage model than forza?

no way on earth. they just have randomly falling off / opening parts and no scratches or deformation at all. looks shit. really shit.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I remember playing Forza 2 and smashing my car into walls to see what the damage was like and it was like the crash test dummies cars where the rear bumper would come off the same way each time (so it would hang off and make sparks then on your second big crash fall off). And the paintwork would also scratch off the exact same way if you crashed.. which really was more of them adding a texture over your paint to make it look like it had been scraped off.

How have they changed it for F3?

Forza 2's damage looks shit. look at what Rad said, parts fall off the exact same way and when you totaly mess up a car in forza 2 it looks soo bloody unrealistic and shit.

the car damage in gt5 reminds me of GTA4's car damage with things hanging out randomly and bits comming off etc. forza 2 doesnt have that.

its very limited and average at best.

All imo of course.

 So we'll get some damage on some cars, as for the damage it looks like it will be minor; why can't someone do real time damage, even as a toggle option.
If I whack a cars back end at fifty miles an hour I'm in deep doodoo, not loosening the front bumper and scratching the paint... :BRMM:

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

why cant simbin just make there GTR EVO game look as good as forza 3/gt5? if they did that, it will blow away forza 3 and gt5.

gtr evo has the best car damage model imo

Is GTR Evo as hardcore realistic as rFactor?
I think rFactor is over the top realistic for me because i've never done proper karting or even driven a car, everyone I know (on other forums) who is good at rFactor has had some experience of motor racing in real life, I can barely complete 5 consisnent laps! I watch F1 enough to know the racing line but I find myself braking too hard or accellerating too quick out of corners and just spinning off!

(Sorry about off topic)

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Yea it is. The thing is, if you turn on all the Aids it can be easy to drive just like forza but the main thing is that the damage and handling physics is night and day compared to forza/GT games.

Why o why cant gtr evo be done on forza/GT graphics is behond me. i guess its because they dont have a large developer team like forza and GT have.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I think the team who develop GTR Evo are linked with the development of NFS Shift, it seems like a step in the right direction for the series (which I think has been shite and very overrated) but I can't see it being a simulation like GTR Evo is, it will most likely be an arcade racer but with some realistic elements (like PGR).

I saw some screenshots of rFactor2 a couple of months ago, that didn't look too far off the graphics of GT/Forza, the lighting looked brilliant if I remember correctly!

About GT - I won't be a 360 fanboy and say "FORZA > GT LOLOL", the features, amount of content and graphics of GT look pretty amazing, Forza can't compete in that respect, but whenever i've played GT in the past i've felt like the car is glued to the track and the physics just felt a bit dodgy. If I owned a PS3 this would be one of my pre-ordered games though.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

The way it handles doesn't seem like a real rally car to me, which is my biggest worry after playing Prologue... Every car feels like a shopping trolley...

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Never ever use the chase cam because it changes the handling of the car for the worse.

Bumper view or bonnet view or inside view should be the only options.

It looks beautiful, and runs so damn smooth, but anyone noticed how slow it feels?

They really need some motion blur or something to make it a bit more exciting.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Yeah GT always has that slow feeling. You're doing 100mph but it feels like you're doing 20mph until you brake and nothing happens for a while. Maybe when you're on the bonet/in car view it will feel faster as you'll see the texture of the road zipping along.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

To be fair, the original GT (which I still play a lot) has a great feeling of speed, but I remember when I first played the demo for GT2 and it felt much slower, and since then they've all been like that (with GT4 being the worst).

I still love the GT series, but it needs something to lift it again I think, and simply being the best looking racing game (pretty much always has been) isn't it.
