They had shipped some new parts which they mounted on their car today to test them out. Vettel was one of the first who went out when session started, but he stopped on track after 4 corners. He was brought back in the pits by recovery truck, they checked something and he went out for the second time. This time, he stopped at the pit exit and mechanics just pushed the car back into the garage and never went out again.

Sutil on the other hand caught fire in his first lap and they haven't been able to change engine quick enough to get him out again.

Oh dear...this will be a difficult year for RB and Renault, if they don't gain control over that new motor.

Top speed has been smashed again at Bahrain. There is a picture leaked which show timing screen on pit-wall of one of the teams...there it says that Bottas who currently has fastest time today had recorded a top speed of 334km/h while Alonso who is currently second fastest has recorded a top speed of 340km/h, which tops his previous top speed from these tests (336km/h).

Also, Rosberg has said that they are expectin top speed of around 368km/h at back straight in China.

For comparison: top speed recorded last year was 340,4km/h in Monza

Really not looking good for Schumi, is it? I know people have been in a coma for months and made a recovery but as time goes on, with no positive news, things don't seem good.

So very sad.

I don't get all the fuss about senna. he surely is one of best ever but while he wasn't even statistically the best of his era, which is prost, some people are always saying he's the best ever(?!). and no wonder most of the same guys also say drazen petrovic is the best basketball player ever(lmao). if it's the stories, lauda's story is pretty inspiring too.

Senna is worthy of the fuss. Such an enigmatic driver who drove with style and aggression lap after lap. Also a compassionate and kind man off the track.

His three world championships is a huge achievement, particularly when you look at the drivers he had to beat to win them. Arguably he could have had more but we will never know.

I don't put too much stock in these all-time statistics anyway. The sport has changed so much over the decades it's unrecognizable from Fangio's time. It's like comparing the achievements of the modern footballer to those of 50 years ago.

The most memorable and admirable drivers are not always statistically the best. James Hunt and Kimi Raikkonen fit that description. Is Vettel worth four world championships at his young age? No, not in my opinion. He's a fantastic driver but is he better than Hamilton, Alonso, Raikkonen? I'm not convinced. He owes much to the pace and reliability of the Red Bull and also to the fact that the others teams couldn't match their technical prowess.

Exactly my thoughts. I am sure that haven't he died in Imola in 1994 he would have won few more titles, probably more than Schumacher has, but I don't think he would be referred to as best driver ever haven't he lost his life doing what he did best at the peak of his career.

And I can't believe that someone could say that Schumacher is a cheater because he did try some things than aren't really fair (crashing in Hill, Villeneuve, stopping in Monaco 2006), but yet they say that it was fair from Ayrton to crash with whoever he wanted when he felt cheated (like with Prost in T1 at Japanese GP in 1990 when he knew that he will have the title if Prost doesn't finish the race).

And just to make my position clear: I have started to watch F1 in 1999. and since then I have never had a driver whom I cheered for wherever he went on to drive. I am Ferrari fan and drivers once I did not like are now together in Ferrari for 2014. and are my favorites this year. So no, I am not a Schumacher fan, nor Senna fan, nor anyone else fan.

Martini logo is amazing!
Ferrari soon will give is revenge to Red Bull Fake Racing Scam all this years.
That is a Infiniti Car not a Renault or Red Bull Name.

Don't know how many of guys here are at Facebook, but check out the official page of Red Bull (the company, not the team), where Vettel and Ricciardo are explaining the changes of the 2013 and the 2014 cars in detail. ;)

so i am the only one who stopped watching F1 around 2003-2004 because of the too many stupid new rules that were made to make the races more..equal? (and i always cheered for the lower teams; Jaguar, Benetton, Stewart, Arrows.. )

@S-Nipe
I assume you are talking about this video?

Exactly. Didn't see it on Youtube, only on FB.

I doubt so, but you're obviously not one of the motorsport fans here in the forum, that stand to their sport even after the mentioned rule changes. :)

Apart from that, I think this season will be the first season for years where many of the less successful teams of the last decade will finally have a chance to drive for wins (given the thesis that the tests showed their real form).

I have started watching F1 in 1999, but I have seen season reviews for as early as 1979. The thing that could be noticed is that whenever speeds went over the top (we are talking mostly about cornering speeds) FIA (or FISA as it was known) would step in and change rules to slow the cars down and make them safer. For quite a long time there was no concern for safety and more often than not drivers lost their lives because tracks safety wasn't following the development of the cars. FIA usually brings in new rules not to make races more equal but to slow the cars down a bit, or to mix things up when one team has so big advantage that races become boring. Those changes we have this year were brought in for few reasons:
1. Drivers safety: lower nose tip, larger side protection
2. Slowing cornering speeds: no more EBD, no beam wing, shallower rear wing, narrower front wing
3. Economy: Engines now use 30% less fuel than in 2013. and ERS recovers 10x more energy than KERS did in 2013.

As for the teams, I always had a sweet spot for those smaller teams. Sauber is my 2nd favorite team, while I had sympathies towards Jordan, Minardi, HRT and in recent years Marussia.

Tobacco sponsors are not present on the car mostly because in EU tobacco is not allowed to appear on cars on TV even if they are driving in, say, Japan. But Ferrari is still sponsored by Marlboro (around 200M $/year) and they are not denying it. When in 2007. they couldn't put Marlboro logos on cars anymore they replaced it with barcode logo. Through 2010. they forbade them usage of that logo too, so in 2011. they came with new team logo that is clearly shown both on their cars, shirts, suites, helmets and equipment and which looks like half of Marlboro logo. And you have to admit that even their teamwear last year looked like they were wearing big Marlboro boxes on them.

Alcohol is still allowed on cars. Force India is sponsored by Kingfisher (beer if I am not mistaken) and Fly Kingfisher (air transport) when they are in countries where alcohol is prohibited. Williams is now sponsored by Martini and that is about it as far as I know.

After 3 hours of F1 this night I have to admit that I love it. Sound is different, but great, drivers have to fight cars a bit more than they were used to, and they are not that much off the pace compared to last year. Pole was 1:27, while best time of the weekend was in FP2 1:25.9

Qualifying:

Qualis started dry but 4-5 minutes before the end of Q1 rain started and have stopped during 5 minute break between Q1 and Q2. Q2 was done on intermediate tires and rain again started about a minute before the end. Q3 was done mostly on wet tires.

Bottas has 5 place grid penalty for a change of gearbox between FP3 and Q.

Rain is expected for race tomorrow
