Only picture I saw of the Lotus was this (and this could've been a shopped picture):

Anyway, back to topic: All those cars look pretty stupid, best thing I can conclude from the new rules is that the cars aren't all looking the same, but try different techniques to achieve the best aerodynamics.

Edit: And another pic of the new Toro Rosso:

This one doesn't look thaaat bad. Still like a boxer with a broken nose, but I like lower noses more than those high ones (when designed better than the current versions, of course).

So, after a half day things are like this:

1 Hamilton, Mercedes: 1m27.820s, 18 laps
2 Raikkonen, Ferrari: 1m29.474s, 11 laps
3 Vergne, Toro Rosso: 1m36.530s, 11 laps
4 Gutierrez, Sauber: no time, 5 laps
5 Perez, Force India: no time, 1 lap

No laps:
Ericsson, Caterham
Chilton, Marussia
Vettel, Red Bull Racing
Button, McLaren
Bottas, Williams

Lots of reliability problems today.
Raikkonen stopped just after few corners, they called him from pits to stop the car because, it was discovered when they checked the car, faulty telemetry data.
Hamilton crashed after 17 laps in T1 when his front wing fell off on start straight
Vettel haven't even done a lap because they put rear suspension springs in the wrong way
Button haven't even got his car assembled because hydraulics and electrics don't fit inside. A bit strange because car was assembled and fired up at factory
Ericsson haven't got his car assembled, there were some problems at the back. Soon Caterham will present their car and hopefully do a few laps.
Bottas haven't got his car in driving condition yet
Chilton don't even have his car at track. There were some problems with Marussia car which were easier to fix at factor. Car is fixed and is on its way to Jerez where it will hopefully be presented and do first laps tomorrow

EDIT:
This is how Hamilton went off

Well, we're still waiting for them to go flat out...than we'll see what those V6's can do :)

Last presentation for today, Williams FW36

Of all cars we have seen till now only McLaren and Red Bull haven't done a single lap, both due to technical issues. Marussia will present their car tomorrow or on thursday, while we still need to wait for Lotus a bit longer

First day of testing is over

1. Raikkonen, Ferrari, 1:27.104, 31 laps
2. Hamilton, Mercedes, 1:27.820, 18 laps
3. Bottas, Williams, 1:30.082, 7 laps
4. Perez, Force India, 1:33:161, 11 laps
5. Vergne, Toro Rosso, 1:36.530, 15 laps
6. Gutierrez, Sauber, 1:42.257
7. Vettel, Red Bull, No time, 3 laps
8. Ericsson, Caterham, No time, 1 lap
No laps from Jenson Button.

Seems that only Ferrari was without any major problems. They had a faulty sensor in a car because of which they stopped on the track after 2 corners, and later there was a tire puncture for Kimi.

Mercedes had a front wing failure which launched Lewis into the barriers. They didn't have spare one so they couldn't continue.

Williams had problems with running their car up, but after that it performed faultlessly.

I don't really know if FI and TR had any problems

Sauber had some problems after they did their first lap, but they managed to fix it in time so that Gutierrez can do a few laps.

They spent whole day fixing a spring which wasn't mounted correctly (although I really doubt that removing and adding a spring can take whole day). Vettel did 3 laps and managed to spin off the track in his timed lap.

Caterham had problems with their rear end and they did just one lap to see if everything is in working order.

McLaren had electrical and hydraulics problems which are still not fixed. They will be working late into night and are hopeful that they will be running tomorrow

 no doubt

I think mercedes have done a brilliant job with f1 w05 this year. it's best looking car of this season imho. rb10 and mp4-29 look different (the noses) but still very nice as well. ferrari and lotus' new cars look awful (imo) though. and don't really care about the minnows. :)

will be rooting for raikkönen as usual.

Also, this year they have new ECU (Engine Control Unit) which is like previous 2008-2013 version provided by MES (McLaren Electronics Systems). It is designed to work with more inputs and outputs due to new Power Units (Engine + Turbo + ERS). Paired with it are new display screens found on steering wheel. Display includes screen(s), RPM lights (above screen) and 6 LED lights that depict different flags (3 on each side of a screen)

What the fuck is that? I don't want to sound too offensive, but these cars look like somebody raped and crippled an ordinary F1 car. You'd get a nicer looking F1 car if you put spoiler on a damned LM002 or a Multipla. :CONFUSE:

Red Bull once again looks the best, Mercedes looks similar to Ferrari's vacuum to me. Force India is on the same level of ugliness with the Caterham.

Just a small bunch of pictures with one for every team on the grid so all those "beauties" are together in one post. All pictures are from the test sessions at Jerez with the exclusion of Lotus (will start testing in test session 2 in Bahrain) and Marussia (car not yet presented).

Only Caterham is a bit too strange for my liking. I like those others, especially Ferrari, Mercedes and Williams.

As for Marussia...their MR03 car has arrived at Jerez later in afternoon and will be presented tomorrow. After presentation it will be driven whole day by Max Chilton

I know that taste is debatable, but take a look at the second Ferrari pic: Does this look like a normal race car for you? And the Force India's nose (alongside all those other dildos) is equally ridiculous.

Btw: Pirelli obviously extended their contract, at least it's the first time I see them getting a sponsor logo on the noses of all cars except for the Caterham.

Does this look like a normal race car for you?

If I may ask in return: does any open wheel (formula) car look like a normal race car?

For me, GT/Touring/WRC cars are the only ones that look like normal cars. LMP and all formula cars are not quite normal.

Now to answer your question: this years Ferrari reminds me of F2001 with this low steep nose.

But I'll admit, F14-T looks strange on some pictures. But, at least for me, it look fantastic on this one:

Oh, and about Pirelli...they have extended their contract for 3 more years, starting with 2014. They were on all cars in last 3 years, and they are on all cars (including Caterham) again

Yep, the Williams looks pretty good. I sincerely hope they have a good season. They are one of the famous old teams and I want to see them back at the front of the grid.

Are they struggling for sponsors too? The car looks very bare. I know they lost Maldonado's backer PDVSA, but have they secured other deals?
