Football Manager 2009

You're getting tactics, training schedules etc. from other people and just signing people from a list somebody else has made.

So you can't say you are better than anyone at this game, because you're not doing anything in the game yourself...

Thats what i was trying to say to Joe because he uses other peoples tactics

tbh is it really a bad thing to do that(even though i dont)? whats the big deal?

first its people moaning about people playing fifa09 with auto, now this? LOL

I dropped from 2nd to 14th then i told my players to always close down and i am back up to 6th

People can do what they like (on FM and FIFA) if they are playing on their own, but I don't want to play anyone on either game who doesn't test their own skill playing it (whether it be by using other people's tactics/signings or assisted controls in the case of FIFA).

And if people brag about how well they are doing on FM when they have used other people's stuff or brag about a goal they scored on FIFA on assisted, I just find it laughable.

Rob is and seems like you were to joe? fm09im talking about. i cant be bothered to dig through 1000's of pages in the fifa09 thread but their are a few there that moan about playing people who use auto

I wasn't moaning to Joe he can do what he likes in his game

I was just saying it takes away a massive part of the game and so its like your not doing much

Started with Mantova in Serie B and find it very hard against teams that have long shooters. In 6 games, I've won 3, drawn 1 and lost 2.... I lost my last match heavily: 3-0 against Parma, away. 2 were long shots. Does closing down do the trick? Or hard tackling?

What I have found myself doing is checking my Assistant Mangers feedback all the way through the game and seeing what he suggests, it takes a lot of tinkering but its well worth it

For strikers I tackle hard and show onto weaker foot.

For wingers I close down and show onto weaker foot.

For centre midfielders I close down.

And yes, though my game runs well slow I do tinkering too :)).

Yeah that's what i like about this new FM its more hands on than previous ones

in the older ones you could just pick your team and not do anything for the whole match but in this im tweaking it alot during matches

I like to tweak as much as possible. Before and during the game. The missus loves it until they get sore.

Currently in January on my first season with Tottenham. I'm 8th in the league, still in the Carling Cup but already out of the FA Cup via West Ham beating me 3-0 in the middle of my 9 game unbeaten league run, randomly. Transfers etc below.

At the beginning of the season I wanted the Russian Connection, Pavlyuchenko to play up front with Kerzhakov (Sevilla) with Arshavin (Zenit) behind. Kerzhakov was willing, he signed for £7m and on LOW wages! However, after my bid of £14.5m was accepted for Arshavin and he declared interest in the move, Man City bid £20m and he went there... on deadline day. Just call me Daniel Levy, fucking it up with no time for repair.

Luckily, I'd already signed Camacho and Marcelo and they've both been great, as have Dos Santos, Pavlyuchenko (currently on 9 goals in 4 games, 19 overall) and Corluka.

Just finished a deal for James Vaughan of Everton, who was knocking the goals in for fun in the England U-21s and for Everton. I'm now actually trying to line up a deal for Kerzhakov to leave at the end of the season, as he's been a damp squib.

Playing a 4-4-2 diamond with Camacho powering back and Modric powering forward. Lots of crosses and through balls for Pavlyuchenko and Bent / Vaughan.

Morning mates.

Just started with Liverpool and it's been very entertaining.
I got 5 M/P for transfer budget but that really was no money for me so I asked the board for more money and they increased it so i had 15 millz.:APPLAUD:

Now i could start selling players. I started by putting Arbeloa, Yossi Benayoun, Jermaine Pennant and Fabio Aurelio on the Transfer list.

I sold all of them but have yet to sell Pennant.

Arbeloa to Man City for 9.5 milions and no clauses.
Benayoun also to Man City for 8.5 Millions and also no clauses.
And Fabio Aurelio to Man City for 6 M/P.:D
And then i received an offer for Ronald Huth of 900 K plus future Clauses.

As you can see I now had 40 Million pounds. And now I could start buying players! :D

My first signing was Thierry Henry for 12.5 Millions.
Then i bought Andoni Iraola from Athletic for 7.5 M.
So after these signings i saved the game and went on a training.

When i get home i load up the save and forgot i bought Iraola so i tought that i needed a right back. I took a good look at right backs and signed Marc Planus from Girodins Bordeaux for 7 M. And just when i had signed i remembered i had just recently bought Iraola!:CONF::CRY:

I thought i just dealt with it later and it would hopefully be OK.

I continued with my signings and got the French left back Sylvain Armand for 8.5 M/P.

And now i only needed a winger. I took a good look and took some time thinking who would fit in my game and at the end i tied up a 9 million pound deal for Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid. And i'm really expecting much from him.

Now my team is complete i can think about playing my games.

First game against WBA at home went 1-1 thanks to Planus who got a red card on 17 minute.:R1:THINK:

Next game against Boro and i managed to win safely 2-0 with goals from Mascherano and Henry. Henry and Torres have really been creating things up front and i put my hopes on them to bring me titles.:)

I got a decent draw in the Uefa Champ league with teams like Sporting, Marseille and Standard liege.

Think that's good for now and please comment if i should make an update. ;)

Oh and, how the F*** do i make spoilers?

Dags pointed me to a guide to FM 09s tactics and i have to say it makes alot of sense

It talks about all aspects of the sliders and what they do so now i actually understand what im doing with the Arrows (which aint runs as many people thought) and how to setup the forward runs (which replaces the arrows now) to keep shape ect

ill post the key parts later

After reading that, my strikers are performing very poorly still. They average 5-6.5. The rest of my team is scoring the goals and playing well. Dammi!

I'd say that's a good thing, FM in recent years has had good strikers score an extremely exaggerated number of goals (sometimes more than games played!) and they seem to have cut down on that this time.

Coopz, can you spoiler that when you post it? As far as i'm concerned it's still using other people's knowledge of the game to help you with it (defeating the object of the game imo) so I don't want to see it.
Cheers.

I decided to make a few sets of tactics based on the guide, just to see the effectiveness. So I tried the Mourinho tactic(s); lost my next game 5-1.

I think they're only really for use with good teams. Playing as Tranmere you have to play some pretty crappy football (i.e. have big gaps between defence and midfield, play very direct football with very little messing about etc.) otherwise you can't achieve anything.

I think playing creative free flowing football (high creative freedom) only works with big clubs too. Strong squad discipline seems to grind out results.

All its doing is explaining what the sliders do how is that spoiling anything?

i'm not posting it anyway it just came out all jumbled up when i pasted it
