Football Manager 2009

Made my own formation ignoring most of the rules in that guide (and ignoring my assistant manager bleating every single game that "the gap between the defence and the midfield is too big"), was 3-0 up in my next league game to a decent side at half time, thus proving my point (to myself at least) that those tactics are only any good when you've got Premier League players.

Two injuries later (and no, that's not the worst bit), I chose two subs to go on in their place (this is around the 50 minute mark). The game plays out until 94 minutes without making the changes or allowing me to make any further changes. I'm sitting there desperate to go on the defensive and hold onto the lead. Finishes 5-3 to them.

How the fuck can they allow so many bugs into the game, between the defenders stopping like they're playing What's The Time Mr. Wolf and the varied range of bugs in the game I'm getting fed up of it now, and that's not even mentioning the release day DRM fiasco.
 
I've used the tactics that came with the TT&F guide and they're working pretty decently.

Obviously they need tweaking a fair bit with regards to situation changes during matches but the individual tactics are pretty good.

I have printed out the whole 50 page guide and will be binding it and taking it with me to Newcastle for a good read :)). Hopefully me and CW will be able to keep playing our net game as the place I'm staying at has wireless internet via The Cloud, which is free for iPhone users :DANCE:.

i made everton real 3d kits , if anyone wants it , its here...
just put in your /Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2009/Graphics/Pictures/Kits/Outfield/Clubs/eng folder
together with this config and arsenal kits, made by Fidney from SI forums...

the quality is not good, im not good with photoshop, but its better than the defaults ones...
i hope some gfx guru makes a full epl pack for us...

btw, notice that those kits will only show up in the macth engine when u play your teams(arsenal or everton in this case) with their regular kits, if they must use blue shorts(everton) or red socks(arsenal) for instance, the default kit will show up..i just hope we can find the string line of mix kits like (Everton_home, Everton_away) so we can add real kits to the mixed ones too.(we need to find Gk kits string line too )





 
question: how do i minimize the gap between def to midfield and mid to attack? my assist manager constantly keeps going on about it via the feedback section of a match.

im playing a 4-1-3-2 formation
 
Change the mentality of your defenders and/or midfielders so they're closer together. Also adjusting your Defensive Line to push up helps too.
 
i managed to beat everton just now 2:0 at the emirates. 15 shots to none!! all i did was mark everton's main striker and close down arteta i believe his called and it worked wonders. should have been more goals but i take 3 points no matter weather its a 1:0 win or a 10:0 win :)

in past manager games i use to always change my formation completely but now all i do is tweak the same formation for each game and its working really well
 
Guys I have a problem setting Milan's formation.

In real life, we play like this:

In game, it ends up becoming a very narrow formation, when in reality its actually very wide in terms of attack. Something just doesnt seem right:

none. i just modified the 442 formation and put one of my CM sitting just infront of the defence just how my fifa09 BAP team plays. simple mate.

i am not a complete noob in this game and as i have said countless times. i have only "cheated" in buying and scouting good players and so far i have only bought one.

the rest including training schedules, team selection and formation is all on me matey ;)

same here, and i think thats why im in love with this new engine so much...,

btw my team is playing great in my 2nd season, seems they really gelled...
valbuena was the bargain of the summer i think, i got him for 4m euro and he is doing amazing in my right wing.. 7.32 avr in 17 oficial macthes so far with 9 assists and 5 goals.... he is unstopable , aways have over 6 runs per game, which is amaizng
scott mcdonald is also playing very good, a lot better than saha was last season...
 
I bought Razvan Rat for 2.7 million, he plays left back and gets in team of the week most weeks and his average rating is about 7.8

pretty much how its done in real life. alex ferguson plays the same formation most of the time week in week out.
 
jeezzz. suggestion to everybody, if u have a player like cahill to play as a CM, with great off the ball, decent work rate, composure and determination give him free role and leave all his slider all at the middle...
he will float all over the field, and coming to the attack as a surprize man..absolutly fantastic! :D

now, its REALLY important that he has work rate and these kind of stuff ortherwise he will just neglect to help marking which will leave a huge gap in you midfield, specially if u use a 442 formation...for example i wouldnt give this to arteta.
spoiler to a great buy to make this kind of function:

Ramires from cruzeiro, amazing player with toons of potential, if u get this guy, give him free role, dont smother him by telling him what to do, this is a player that if u let him play his way, he will almost aways play above 7 casue he will find the oposition defensive gaps so easily.

i aways thoght guys like zidane or van der vaart were the only ones that i should give the free role instruction..now i see i was a bit wrong. at least thats how i feel about this...offcourse if u plau a 4312 tatic, u can give the 1 amc free role too, independent of his work rate or determination, since he doesnt need to come back and mark.

Im 5th in the CCC with 5 games to go with 6 points off dropping out of the play-offs and 12 from automatic
 
I'm getting bored of the game. I smell the same cheap "cheats" as in other titles. The game is done in a way they try to balance the result.

The thing is, I've played 7 months with barcelona. I have more than 16 chances per game, and I'm lucky if I score 2 of them. I'm talking about very very clear chances, not simply shots from 30 yards. Eto'o particularly can hit a melon. He's scored 5 goals out of what... 100 chances? The way they have made your strikers totally stupid I can't understand. To top it all, my opposition (no matter what team is) simply scores about 50% of their chances. So at the end, even if I'm 1st, I don't feel the game is treating me fairly. And when I smell unfairness in a "simulation" game, the thing is over.

The last stab was watching my team loose 5 - 1 against Olympique even if I had 18 chances and they had... 10. A lot of shots straight to the top corners, too many 1-1s that they can score and my bloody strikers can't (even if their stats are really high. We're tlaking about Messi, Etoo, Henry...). Then I remember how this game "raises" difficulty when you play quarter finals of the Champions or when there is a "difficult" opponent, then your team is made of butter and if you try to play a little offesnive, you're dead. I don't mind getting some matches lost if I'm unlucky, but ALWAYS being less luckier than my opposition, that's uber crap.

At this time, I've checked my ratio of chances-scoring is below 10%. My opposition has an average of 4 shots agains me and 50% of them are goals. It's not a matter of tactics, but a matter of how the game is coded. I should be able to play offensively and score more goals because of it, and that way conceding wouldn't look so stupid (3 of my 3 draws have been in the 90th minute having my team created more than 15 chances and my opposition scoring in their 1st or 2nd shot in the game in the last minute).

I wouldn't mind drawing and losing lots of times if my team wasn't playing well, but when your ratio of chances against the opposition is an average of 16 - 4 to say something, you know your team is playing fabulously well. In fact, most of my wasted chances are really easy shots inside the area that they will miss fro some reason or got straight to the keeper.

Maybe this game must be played with lower teams to have some feel of real simulation. Anyone feeling that way with good teams?
