Fight Night Round 4 (PS3/360)

Hmmmmm....

First thing that struck me (and I havent seen hardly any vids leading up to the demo), were the graphics. At least FN3 tried to be realistic, this is a cartoon :( Pretty poor (though I appreciate the graphics and details etc are 'good', just shocked me as I would have preferred something more realistic) - a step back from FN3 I feel.

Gameplay is pretty much the same as FN3. Think the punching speed is better being faster and the whole thing plays a bit better than FN3, but it just doesnt feel right somehow.

Think I will still get it, but its touch and go at the moment! Only thing keeping me positive is the career mode sounds good (multiple belts, pound fo pound etc) and the online modes.

Feel a bit flat about the whole thing now...

Oh and what the fuck is up with the headbutt? Very poor... like an arcade game :(

i think i'm in the same boat, they have taken a step back with realism of the fighters. i think the gameplay has got better since FNR3, but the punches need more power and the stamina needs to drain quicker (will be sorted hopefully, post #211) and the demo is on easy. ufc does both of these things well, but ufc doesn't have the fluidity of FNR4.

Feels like they stared themselves blind on the physics and forgot to actually make it realistic. The punches are so weak and the strong punches looks like a joke. Feels arcady to me, dodge an incoming punch and you will automatically get a "extra points" punch wherever you hit him.

I really was looking forward to this but first impression is bad. Controls are so sensitive. I try to make one type of punch and I end up doing another one. Sure practice makes perfect, but as in every system you design there is an unwritten rule, and that is that when the user makes an input, the system should always return what the user expects to return. Otherwise it will irritate the user. It's just basic usability 101.

I feel a bit cheated because they made the game look very different in their videos.

Yikes I'm in a parallel universe!

I think it's awesome, graphics looks nice, physics decent, yes there's a few bugs but 1. it's an early demo and 2. they already reported on things being tweaked.

At first it feels like it's all pressure and close up and hard to create space to box and move but after about 50 bouts on the demo I find myself in complete control now and can box and move, block and counterpunch at will, and that's despite being overly aggressive due to the 3 round limit.

I mostly play against the AI of course, and as we all know it's on an easy level, but still interesting to try out different tactics and such, also quite interesting to play Hatton v Hatton or Pac v Pac, makes for an interesting change of play :)

I agree with what Gab said (again :P), it's almost impossible to do a quick left-right jab combination to the head for example, you end up doing just one punch or one you didn't want on the second punch.

I thought using the analog sticks would make it feel more realistic, but throwing combinations of punches on UFC is so much better - it does what you want it to do.

Other things such as the ridiculously animated headbutts (which you can get away with at least twice) and the health bars just add to the overall arcadey feel.

The headbutting is just ridiculous

People will just nut you twice online because they can get away with it everytime :LMAO:

It's not a bad game, but IMO, UFC > FB4, and thats why I'm out.

Different sports, choosing UFC over FNR4 for me would be like choosing EA Rugby over PES........

Practice, I can do 4 and 5 punch combos of the exact punches I want, to head or body or a mix of both without even thinking about it :)

When I tried it I thought it was crap, Stick to that. You can get people who just run in and smash you and theres little way to counter it IMO. UFC is much more tactical which is key

Can't see a problem with the graphics IMO. I think they are really good. I would say The Simpsons is cartoony, not this.

As for not being able to throw combos, can't see the problem. I like that if you flick the stick twice in the direction, it throws 2 quick jabs.

It will take a bit of getting used to and I still throw punches I don't want. I just move the stick in a slightly higher/lower direction and then it works fine.

I hope in the final version that we can use different styles though. I believe the demo is setup to show more Inside boxing. That is one of the features they have mentioned. I can't see EA taking out the option to fall back and work behind your jab more. Some of the improvements mentioned should sort some of my minor gripes.

Definate purchase for me. Not into UFC at all. Much prefer my boxing.
Fingers crossed it's as good as I hope. Any better than FN3, I'll be happy.

Try playing Pac v Pac against the AI, very different type of fight than if either is Hatton.

Didn't expect much difference see as though you are up against the same opponent but you do seem to have a bit more room. I take it that's down to his superior foot speed? I'm sure I've read EA will be upping foot speed aswell. Good thing IMO.

Yeah probably down to footspeed and just generally less physical presence than having a Hatton in there, obviously Hatton is massively overrated as I can easily use him to destroy Pacquio quite quickly whereas the opposite takes longer.

I found it the opposite actually. Much harder to dominate the fight as Hatton. Strange that, but I guess my high punch count (working the jab) is probably the reason for that. I tend to invite fighters on to me and then just pound them as they do (with punches of course...) . :D

I find Hatton much easier because he's way faster than he should be, so you have the strength advantage plus handspeed, I like doing three or four punch combos, immediately followed by a push, then another combo, hard for the opponent to get into a counter punching routine :)

I have to agree, the game is much better Pac v Pac and i'm getting more used to the analog stick punching. I probably won't buy the game though.

haha I love the way he falls with his arms up like the cover for Platoon and then you sock him one in the face.

Haha I love how you can smack people while they are on their way down :D.
