FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014

He was there because of this man:

Can't believe what I'm reading over the web with people blaming Gerrard. Centre backs were sleeping. At least he jumped up with the man he was marking. Just so happened the ball came off the top of his bonce (which happens loads) and the docile centre backs were sleeping. Keeper boots ball down pitch and neither of them were anywhere near Suarez and clueless fools blame Gerrard. Unbelievable.

For the record, I think its time he knocked International footy on the head. I'm not sticking up for him, just saying I can't believe he's getting the blame and the centre backs are getting away with it.

Poor old Stevie Me.

Thought it was a great assist personally. Defense-splitting header.

Did my tit in that the ITV commentators aid something along the lines of 'That's the difference of having a proven winner, a world class player in your team'. That England team has players that have won far more than Suarez, but the narrative seems to be that he is some bizarre super human.

He ran offside and the ball dropped to him perfectly. It really is his year.

that header - all he wanted to do is prevent it so he jumped together with Cavani...

the partnership in Cahill and Jagielka were fault on both goals tonight..their marking for striker who runs behind and playes in offside line such as Suarez was a joke today...

basicly only thing Suarez needed to do is to make runs between them and they were not going to stop him..

England needs a better coach..the youth realy looks exciting.

Also perhaps time for Stevie to quit NT..after this World cup.

Don't think is Gerrard fault in any way. Like you said it happens a lot. It's just a bit funny that the ball goes to his club teammate.

If Gerrard leaves it, England are fine. If Gerrard heads it sideways, England are fine. If Gerrard heads it forwards like a normal header, England are fine.

Gerrard literally did the only thing that could set up Suarez. It was remarkable.

He hasn't been good enough at this tournament, I'm not convinced he has the legs to play 90 at this level. He was clearly tired, barely got off the ground and in the end cost his team the match by making a very basic error.

Jagielka was poor, but you can't expect your captain, your 6'2" midfielder to be that poor on a clearance.

Absolute bollocks. It's not his fault he's not 6ft 5 inches. Basic error my ass. He made an attempt to jump and head the ball and just couldn't make it while his centre backs are nowhere near the man they are supposed to be marking. It was the last few minutes of an important game for England and one of them should have been stuck to Suarez like glue! Gerrard's fault my ass.

Agree that Jagielka is woeful too, but Gerrard literally played a perfect ball to Suarez, when he was offside. You can't claim that isn't a massive f*ck up.

At least it wasn't Rooney. God knows what the British media would have done if he'd headed that ball.

It's interesting, England have played far better this tournament than the past few, yet this is the first time they won't be going through into the group stages. Not sure what exactly that says, but it probably says something.

Sven would have had us in the quarters. ;)

Rooney blew two fat scoring chances before he eventually scored, so he's partially to blame as well. He could've given England all three points today.

He didn't even know he was there though and not that it entered his mind but you would expect his centre backs to be marking one of the best strikers around. Gary Medel against WBA last season was a stupid back header, Gerrards was just one of those things where he couldn't quite get enough on it as wasn't talk enough. Not a mistake at all. It happens all the time but usually gets cleared up by a defended who is alert and marking his man.

That second yellow was a tad harsh imo... I'm rooting for Japan but I generally dislike red cards unless they're absolutely needed.

agree but as a captain and as a yellow carded captain he should be much more careful and responsible. Greece still can pull this one off i believe

After seeing them play recently, I don't think they need a new coach, and I was one that didn't want Roy in. They have improved a far bit lately compared to two and even last year with the talent they have right now.

I always thought Jagielka should be in the starting 11 for England, but this WC and previous performances shows he just isn't good enough.

Sorting out the RB and the one CB position is the most crucial thing right now. And maybe Hart to get a kick up the backside heh.

Greece n Japan are (2) pathetic teams both have a point each. England are much more exciting and they have zero points.

Japan's performance was subpar, playing against a 10 men Greece and ending the game goalless is shameful. If they play like that against Los Cafeteros, they'll get slaughtered.

this and Iran vs Nigeria have been the dullest games of the WC

Mexico will use black shorts against Croatia :/

Come on Mario Save us!

Too many Liverpool bottlers in our team to do it ourselves

Yep, wish we had........Milner and Lescott :P

But as a whole they were poor. It's all good trying to model the team on Liverpool but when you don't have a few key players (Coutinho / Suarez in this case) to make it work and try to shoehorn Rooney / Wellbeck into a similar positions who are poor in thos positions (because it isn't their usual role) then you get a laboured system that just doesn't quite work.

Greece seriously needs to part ways with all these veterans, and give the chance to younger, talented and, I would say, better players (after they get knocked out of the WC), if they want to play football. It's ok to have few veterans, but not a horde of them. This is just the torture for their NT and for the football fans.

wtf? Let croatia use the blue ones ffs :(

I agree with you because I don't have anything against us playing in blue shorts...it actually looks ok..

But they are just following rules here. In that match Croatia is "home" team and rules state that home team is to wear their first choice kit (which for us is red shirt, white shorts and blue socks) while away team is to wear first or second choice kit or combination of those two that is different from home team

I was there at the stadium yesterday watching Gervinho's wonder goal. Why didn't he play like that at Arsenal?!

Very harsh result for Ivory Coast, but the 2nd Colombian goal came from a bad mistake that was always going to be punished.

Atmosphere was great and it looked like we were in Colombia, so many fans invaded the city. Will try to post some pictures or videos from the Colombian 'hinchas' later.
