FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014

Scolari has picked Paulinho for his deep penetrating runs. The strikers aren't moving and they're not stretching opposition defense at all.

Once the strikers do what tthey're supposed to, Brazil's overall game will improve and Paulinho will most likely be a thorn in the side for any opposition. I thought basic football knowledge was standard education in Brazil...

Well, since you're aware we know about football, trust me on this. What our team need isn't a fourth player to get in the defense line, but one able to pass the ball to the other 3.

Luis Gustavo is there for the sole reason of covering our fullbacks runs, so once Paulinho rushes forward, who's left on the mid?

Despite Hernanes is not a Brazil starter type of player IMO, I think he's the only one with the right caracteristics to play the number 8 role. Paulinho looks lost on the field, missing too many passes. A bad year on Tottenham did him no good, after an amazing Conf. Cup. He will help the build up plays that seemed what Brazil's needs the most.

I personally prefer Fernandinho over Luiz Gustavo, but knowing that Scolari values a lot a more positional midfield, I doubt he will made a change.

Every Spain player looks well below par. Alonso looks finished

Oh and there's Casilas the clown to throw the game ans Spain's WC

Spain 2014=France 2002.

Casillas another huge mistake. Fell so bad for him. Despite the rumours of "pressuring" the Mourinho's sacking and the remaining as the NT number 1, despite being the benchwarmer to another Spaniard. After a historic career, probably retiring from Internacional football like that, is really a disgrace.

What a great 2 games today :)

PS. I still think that Spain formation isnt good. They need to play as Euro 2008 with 2 strikers (Villa-Torres). Now they suffering with one man in attack.

And Italy 2010 ;)

Yeah that too. But I was thinking more of a European and World champion at the same time, a heavy favorite, with amazing players, that felt apart on the group stage. Italy 2010 was not in the same patamar :)

Was the best pass play with a goal in the end. But the best goal of the tournament so far was the 2:1 by Australia!

It was the 1-1 goal that was the volley, if that's the one you're after.
Nice match by Spain btw, I love the entertainment. Makes one think though, how good is Netherlands really? This Spain is toothless and they (Netherlands) struggled with Australia.

Especially impressive that Chile beats Spain at their own game. High pressure and quick short passes as shown on the first goal.

in your face Del Bosque, that's for leaving Llorente and Negredo and calling the expired Torres and the overrated flop Costa.

Grande Vidal!

The referee has been fantastic in this match btw. Difficult match to officiate.

Four years ago I was happy when the reigning champion went out after the group stage and this year I'm as well. Finally the proof that false 9s and ball possession brings nothing if you don't score.

I feel sorry for the Spanish audience but I can't say that this bothers me very much :D

EDIT: Adios España!

Casillas was weak today as well. That second goal was his fault. A very poor clearance to say the least.

Diego Costa is a false 9 since when?
IMO the extreme possession is not the problem for this Spain squad. Is the lack of intensity of the midfield. Alonso and Busquets barely run. Inesta and Silva play without the same flare, the quick passes and movement.

That's the reason they are out.

I'm not saying Costa plays a false 9. But Spain were those that made it popular some years ago with Fabregas in front. ;)

CHILE HISTORICO!!!

Casillas is by FAR the worst player in this WC, he failed in almost every single goal Spain suffered in the 2 matches

Bad team selection and a lack of tactical flexibility have been Spain's downfall. Plus their players look physically drained after long campaigns in the Champions League.

Ah Ok, thought you were saying he was :). But with Fàbregas they not only won, but they dominate. It's boring football with a false 9, but for them, it worked. Altough if they had a true striker the result would probably be all the same.

Quite said for me to see Spain leaving like this.
Team absolutely had no idea in 2nd half, while other teams try to "force" the ball in the goal, Spain still did the same (boring) things, Chile did really well to defend it. At least they can say that their system worked well last 6 years(ball possetions btw), but some players didn't seem to be hungry enough this year, also maybe some wrong decisions made(to bring Torres for Costa and Cazorla for Pedro even seemed to be a lit helpless from del Bosque, he also the team didn't seem to be prepared to try something different.)
