FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014

guys, you're over-rating Chile, I mean they're good, but nothing that impressive or joyfull to watch as Mexico and Columbia for example.
Chile got what they deserve, being in the last 16 is enough for them.

Chile played the most physical, aggressive football in this tournament.
And when comparing Chile with columbia or mexico, think about the enemies they had in group stage.
Columbia had no real competition in group stage and Uruguay played not that good as they could.
Mexico played well, but were lucky they didn't lose against brazil, while yesterday brazil was lucky not to lose against Chile.
If you say Chile is overrated than you have to say the same about columbia...

Does anyone know if muslim players (especially from Argelia and Nigeria) are planning to do obey the ramadan period? This tournament is been hard enough in optimal conditions in terms of nutricition, can not imagine what would be if players are fasting.

I wrote yesterday that Shaqiri will do (he did post that on fb imo) and today in newspaper Valon Behrami told that non of swiss players will do it coz food is very important in this days and they can't just give up...

I also listen something to German TV (don't understand much of german) they were talking about Ramadan and players like Ozil , Khedira and Mustafi as they might do it, maybe S-nipe has some more info ?

I made a small research and find out that Kolo Touré was the only one that openly said he would fast. But since they are out, that's not a problem now.

Also Sagna,Benzema and Sissoko are (supossedely) practising muslims. Any french guy could find out if they are fasting?

Sorry, must have missed that segment, no idea, if these players obey the Ramadan rules.

I posted it a few pages back, Sagna has said he'll fast after the World Cup.

well performing well is one thing and price tag ? it Monaco. Cavani 55m he aint worth 5m imo;) Rodriguez guide his country better then Ronaldo .

At both. His tranfer fee was €40 millions. that says something of his perfomance.

agree with Porto and Monaco performance. I watched him time to time and he was brilliant and unfortunately portuguese and french leagues aren't the most popular(and compare with world cup too) that I think is the main reason many people get to know him now. people aren't into the transfer moneys these days unless it's over 50-60 million euros.

I think his transfer fee has something to do with Sporting's share of Moutinho's transfer money. since it was kinda "two in one" transfer, porto probably showed james' transfer fee higher than it actually was, for giving less money to sporting due to their share on Moutinho's ownership. can anybody confirm this?

They could've bought anyone for that price, but they chosen him. Rodríguez is a great talent, that is maturing, especially phisically, but this WC everything is going well for him. Let not jump the gun and put him on that discussing. Maybe in the future, but is too soon.

You are too hard on Cavani :P

Yes, Porto screw up Sporting on Moutinho's deal. That's why I put €40 instead of €45, which was the official one. But still is big money nonethenless. Götze only gone for 40 and Özil for 50. And they play similiar roles. So he was at the market value (although with significant less wages, I assume) for the position at least.

He at Porto was a bit inconsistent at times, showing amazing things, but too often in the big games disappearing. But he was (and still is) very young, so I thing physically he sometimes couldn't cope with the "big boys". But nowadays he looks great. runs miles. and resist the intense pressure, etc.

All Brazilian coaches are mediocre.
Its more complicated than that simple blame the coach. Brazil been on a turning point for long, but they are too scared to move on. Each world cup they come with a philosophy completely opposite of the other, its mentality! 4 years later its technique! 4 years again its mentality all over again! Or lets open for media lets open our practices we are happiness we are joy, 4 years later lets shut it all we are serious and so on.

The media is a reflect of the fans, contrary to what most people think, and its about time both to either buy on the seleção or shut up. We can have this we are supporting the 'raça' style then on the first ball a guy can't control our reaction to be ooooh that guy sucks, lets call that whatever kid. Or the opposite when we have a bunch of super technical players that don't run and everybody screams wheres the passion!

Here is the thing, that's pretty much every fan/media nowadays, we are no longer the football nation, and its about time we realize there are other nations are just like us regarding this beloved game.

There is not a creative midfield or even a midfield, Fred and Jo aren´t NT material. It hurts to see a team that had the likes of Romario, Ronaldo, Bebeto, Careca, etc depending on Fred an Jo.

Here is where the more complicated I said above, gets simpler. We are not that special football nation anymore, we are just another team, and we are not good enough right now.

Its very simple actually, other teams are better than us, just that. I could safely say that every brazilian club is on the same position of the Seleção, we have no strikers and playmakers.

Cruzeiro, arguably the best team last year, had to rely on a old man Borges, cause he plays old school striker, but he can't stay fit, and believe me we tried a bunch of more 'fit' and even 'better' players than him there and none of them worked. We were developing a young man at the striker position, but he was already sold, cause good nine's are rarity in the whole world right now, and we are developing a good deep playmaker, but he is probably out this summer too.

That's the reality, we are nothing special at football anymore, we just try to develop good players too, so either the media/fans buy mediocrity and try to slowly improve it or we will just have to wait for a better generation of footballers.

I agree, they defend better than Mexico and Colombia, but nothing special about them, that's even their regular level, some good fighters with no excellence.

We are a TEAM not selection..... Chile play like a club.nt team. Chile is heart! We play for glory of this colors

We play face-to-face vs best NT of the world

Pd: Sorry my bad english

Not me I hasten to add. Some of us English take an interest in world football. Just some though.

You probably don't mind that I generalized then :P

He was also playing on the wrong position, he's clearly a no.10. Porto insisted he should be a winger.

Brasil definitly doesn´t have it´s best harvest, there is a big gap between Kaka and Ronaldinho´s generation(32years) and Neymar´s one(22 years).
But still if you watch the majority of Brasileirão clubs you´ll see they play exactly like Brasil is playing on the last four games, the ball beign throw from the defence to attack, ONLY!

I insist in saying it doesn´t have a midfield, in my opinion this is due to the lack of good coaches here, coaches nowadays in Brasil seem to be only motivators(Felipão beign the posterboy) and NOT tacticians!
And I insist even more that Brasil needs a foreign coach with a neutral and objective view who values the ball possession and passing.
Coaches like Guardiola, Bielsa, Carlos Bianchi would take the best out of playes like Ganso, Coutinho, Bernard, Willian, Lucas, among others.
But that´s an utopia, we all know that CBF and the Brazilian conservative people and press would never accept a foreigner. Even if one came it surely would be boycotted.

I hope I´m wrong but the future of Brasil appears to be dark.
Of course is football and Brasil might win the World Cup playing in this poor way motivated by the crowd like it did last year in Confederations Cup, I hope Felipão can pull a rabbit out of the hat and get rid of Fred placing Neymar as a false 9 and fill the midfield with Willian, Fernandinho and Oscar.

Xherdan Shaqiri will apparently fast if I'm not wrong. Plus Gavranovic's knee injury, this will mean a huge advantage for Argentina...

All our players will be fasting (except for Medjani). I think it's good thing actually, everyone is used to it (most of 'em been doing it for 10 years or more) water fasting will cleanse their bodies and their spirits will be on high. Nothing better before taking on Germany.

I think the spiritual aspect will bost the players. The heat (which the Algerians are more than used to :)) and especially the high humidity I reckon will be too demading on the players. On that conditions you need to hidrate yourself as often as possible. Cannot even imagine a team play 90 min without water.

But best of luck to Algeria :)

Even the stands where the suns lays are half-empty. If be seated on that sun is hard imagine to be playing there. FIFA with two games a day could easily put it the 17:00 and 20:00 local time. But money talks. Such a slow and boring game from two of the most entraining teams of this WC.

Good luck holding the games in Qatar 2022, where the temperature is much higher.
