FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

2nd game and I'm seeing refs T posing and flags moving at 6fps lol.

Game has huge issues with sliding and some of the animations are really unnatural, but I'm actually having fun so far.

Edit: Okay I'm really starting to enjoy this
Yeah, some of the elements enjoyable.. the issues you mention though break the immersion, i had a situation where mbappe doing this quick dribbling move back and forth, left to right in a lightning speed hahaha and sometimes the ball travels inconsistently fast speed..

Anyway are the menu, replay @30 fps ? and many occassion we've got this blur touch ? Why the turf must look blurry during goalkick, close replay is it so hard to render on ps5 ?

Not sure about replays but yeah there's definitely some weird stuff going on graphically. Wish we were getting a proper release on PC

Just downloaded it on the Series S and I'm very pleasantly surprised. It looks great and I had a lot of fun with it. I played with almost default sliders and I was still sold on the game. I had a few fouls and even a penalty (missed obviously). This game feels to me so different than the last couple of fifas.

One question : what's the best way to defend? Coming from older titles I can't stop shit. Should I jockey? Contain? Send a teammate and hold back? I'm one of those guys that plays assisted everything so kinda need the entry level help ( either tactical or legacy)

Hoping matt can also do some sliders for shorter halves this year one he can iron out the first sets

Manually. You can push "contain" to position your player in front of the player with the ball, but try not to leave it pushed. And then goes straight on the guys with the ball and tackle him, standing by preference (i don't know if going physical is effective in FIFA 22, but just running on the player with the ball is sufficient to get the ball, it's practically automatic)
Jockey is not so bad for blocking crosses, i never used it for something else so i don't know... Even if i prefers to block it with a sliding tackle but that's my way to defend.
I reinstalled FIFA 20 (as it's the same Def. system, so i can gives some advice to Fifa newcomers) But hell how easy to score that game is.

The CPU defense is totally lost when you attack and build up fast, and shooting with strength is far too effective. I came back to check what was the difficulty i settled, i thinked to be on "normal" but i saw "Legendary" : the game save keeped my old configuration.
Can't imagine how bad defensiveley was the 21 then. I feel really sorry for the guys who brought it, also people said to me to try it on PS5 (for the graphical part especially)

Hope it's not the same in the 22 i suppose, and please no 50 sliders. Just the higher difficulty, Semi and that's all. I will buy it but thinkin, it's the case to goes to online Divisions. I think whatever you will do, sliders, etc. that's the better way to found real challenge. On Fifa you can at least try it. There's some trolls and some rage quit after 3-0 at the 20th minute lol, but better to quit when you don't have the level / or if it's not your day.

I didn't noticed you speaked french @saturator
Es-tu un ex-membre de Wearepes-WAP? Moi oui sur la vieille version du forum. Je compte me réinscrire, notons que c'est devenu mix Fifa/PES.
Si oui tu dois déjà être tombé sur mon pseudo y'a des lustres

Are you an ex-member of Werapes (french website)? I was on the old forum version. I will subscribe to it sooner or later on the new one.
If yes you should have probably meet me in the past

I've been alternating between "normal" and "slow", and I find "slow" much better. There are no game-breaking issues for me that are introduced by playing on "slow" (and in the thread @PRO_TOO mentions above, you can see people reporting the CBs "switching off" as often when they play on normal speed).

What I am finding is that games on World Class are much more end-to-end, with 20 shots per game on average, whereas games on Legendary are much tougher (seemingly for both sides), with 12 shots per game on average. (Ultimate is alien-football garbage.)

What I don't know is if lower-league teams play like gods on Legendary - I've got Cambridge (as Burnley) in my next career mode game, so I guess I'll find out tonight...

It's just such a shame that we don't have intelligence sliders. I want the less ping-pong-passes from a lower difficulty, but the difficult-to-break-down midfield from Legendary.

Either way, I'm getting absolutely smashed on any difficulty I play. But in previous years, I felt like that was because the AI was ping-ponging the ball around and all I could do was watch. This time around I feel like it's more because of my terrible defending.

Oh - and the other thing I've found is that an acceleration drop of a single point for the AI has a fairly huge impact. Playing as Burnley against Liverpool on World Class, I found that with 50/50 acceleration, I was 3-0 down by half-time - but with acceleration at 50/49 in the second half, they couldn't score.

Which makes me worry that pace is too important (but I just hate the silly insta-dribbles, and this cuts a lot of them out).

I’m the same, I haven’t noticed any issues with slow on PC. There definitely were in 20, not sure about 21.

Had an awesome match vs villareal in the champions league that ended 0-0, neither side really breaking through to make any clear cut chances. But the following game I beat Liverpool 6-2. They were wide open. Was so strange to have that immediately after such a tight game.

Liverpool were incredibly high up the pitch, so I think maybe the sliders had something to do with that, but then villareal weren't as high with the same sliders.

Was clear though that there's definitely variety in how teams play and how games can pan out. If I can find a sweet spot so games arent ridiculously open, then career mode should be fun this year

Yeah, this variety is one of the most important things to me, generally - and wasn't the case last year.

After seeing a video on @Flipper the Priest's excellent Twitter feed (link here) of EA's World Cup 2010, I dug out my old Xbox 360 to give it a go. I honestly couldn't believe that (as England) I could get beat 2-0 by France and then beat San Marino 10-0, on the same difficulty, in the same game.

Which is an indicator of the state of modern football games, I suppose. One of many (e.g. being incredibly happy that the AI shoot from outside the box).

So im sold on fifa 22 ps5 version, since pc isn t getting the nex gen improvements which are significant..however this is the predicament, in lebanon selling price right now is 875 usd and that s only the console and 1 gamepad, u have to add fifa 22 for like 75 usd, so in fact ur in for a 1000 usd investment, which is a lot tbh, it s a predicament right now to play fifa 22 on ps5

"One of the best accounts on [Twitter]" (an actual human being, 29 August 2021)

I cite variety in an appraisal of games more and more. Invariably, a great game offers variety - AI tactics and types of goal especially.

A little OT and I don't hate the game but you'll see all PES 2021 has to offer after a few games.

Whereas after about eight seasons into a 17 year-old classic I was still seeing new things:

So far, FIFA 22 is offering me variety on the pitch. Played a little more over the weekend that dragged me to a 7/10 from 6/10, as I got into the guts of a Career Mode. Compared to the last few years, that's FIFA dreamland.

nothing beats broadcast cam! :D

the few times i struggle with passes when using broadcast are well worth it for me, when the game looks just so much better in broadcast cam!
i tried the new EAcam but hey... i want it to look like on tv. a bit more height would be nice, when using the broadcast cam.

when i see matches with the regular cam or even further out, it really is putting me off. i dont like it anymore... and i will never go back. looks so gamey to me, where as the broadcast cam enhances the matchday feeling (with all the bells and whristles) a lot (especially in FIFA).

Played on PC and now on series X.

It plays very differently on the Xbox, feels weightier, less floaty and smoother. The gameplay play a bit more like football than the PC version, not sure if this is that motion thing they were advertised but just feels more natural...

The graphics are a big step up on the next gen version, it doesn't look as flat and the HDR definitely makes a big difference. Replays looks miles better but I usually skip them anyway...

I'm exactly the same. My head says use Tele cam. It's what I used throughout my FIFA prime on PS3 and PS4. But you miss out on so much off the pitch, and it's off the pitch that any wow factor lives. I'm in fact pretty nonplussed by what's on the field, visually.

But it's the same with every broadcast camera in any football game ever, especially when the ball is at the far corners of the pitch. It totally messes with my head, and actually impairs my enjoyment of the game. It's a trade off!

I get it. It's a whole element of the game that's totally missing.

They're compressing 90 minutes into 10, though. I'm not excusing the fact that there's no physicality in the game (though actually, there is, it's just that players are like those plastic eggs that just can't be knocked down and referees don't see anything as a foul, which is the real game-breaker)...

But what I will say is, when I watched Match of the Day last night, there were so few fouls shown - and what we're playing is a highlights package, not a 90 minute game, so I get EA's angle too. Even though we both know this isn't the core reason there are no fouls - it's because FUT players think it's boring if a game stops and starts all the time.
I think the problem with the second point is the flow of the overall experience when the game stops for fouls, PES 2021 is actually really good for it's foul & physicality, however the issue is how long it takes to resume play after waiting for replay wipes & slow transitions. FIFA is just as bad for exposition cutscenes for every minor event.

Also, the lack of physicality occurs on FIFA because there is a tremendous bias towards ball carriers having an acre of space no matter what, by the time you close them down with your icy & lethargic defenders the danger has since moved on.

If i remember, always used slow. But perhaps he saw something you didn't which he found or considers as "broken".
Slow + Sliders + manual, that makes a lot of "try" and could cause issues from the natural conceived game, which isn't broken but more "a direction FIFA team choosen" and so, worked on to build the game you're playing

i do sometimes miss a bit of overview, when scanning the field for possible recipients. thats why i wish i could up the broadcast cam a bit (on PS5).
what i use, to make up for a greater overview when using tele or tele broadcast, is the radar. to me, this all works very good.
let me explain whats happening in my head: when i would play EAcam or tele, i have a better overview of the whole pitch. i can see where my lads are and easily pass towards them (even long crosses and such). i dont have to move my head, i just glance left, right, up and down... its all in "one view".
when playing broadcast cam, i need to use the radar at the bottom to spot my mates (that are currently not in focus of the broadcast cam).
that move, of getting my head down a bit, glancing at the radar to spot a receiver, is my equivalent to being on a real pitch (ball at feet) and scanning the pitch for recipients!
i hope you get me! would all be so simple to explain if only you guys would speak some german!
Ihr Banausen! ;)

It's refreshing to play a Fifa game and not feel bitter every time you concede a goal to the CPU. Even some goals in online play in the past, there's just nothing I could do to stop what was happening.

I think it's a combination of things at play, making the much maligned 'momentum' take a back seat. Hypermotion isn't just marketing guff, intelligent teammates and AI controlled opposition makes a huge difference.
