FIFA 22 Discussion (Console Versions)

Hey guys... Just want a consensus.. Is it worth buying fifa this year? The lack of fouls worries me... Are we all seeing that? Is it better that pes 21?

The lack of fouls is a consequence of the balance of the game unfortunately. Players rarely get close to each other, and when they do, most contact doesn't enter consideration as potential foul play - and the AI (above Professional) very rarely slides in (unless, bizarrely, it's to gift you a penalty).

Yes, you can slow down sprint speed and then players do come into contact more often (as you can't speed away from defending players), but it doesn't really fix the problem. It's an issue that will always be there, in my experience. Take it with a pinch of salt if someone tells you sliders can truly fix it.

The game has other issues (it's still twitchy, passing accuracy is too high in general etc.) - but I think the AI is generally fantastic, and the issues haven't stopped me loving the game, which has surprised nobody more than myself...!

And do you come to this from being a PES fan? Seems a shame that we can't hardly try out the new free kicks... Can't decide whether to bite or not..

Yes the lack of fouls is very annoying it’s been this way for years now.

Everything else is very good. Such a ‘shot in the arm’ after the dreadful eFootball and before that, FIFA 21 being the worst version in recent times. EA knew that game wasn’t good enough and went back to the drawing board for this (FIFA 22).

I’m hooked on this. And it’s very challenging! Looks amazing on PS5 too.

To enjoy FIFA 22 you need to forget PES completely, flush it from your system. FIFA is an entirely different beast now. To me, FIFA 22 feels Next Gen (as pretentious and cheesy as that sounds!)

If you’re on the fence, it always costs £20-£25 in the sales around December/January.

Oh I didnt know that.
I Sim all the training sessions from the get go. Getting all D's (if im not mistaken).
As for CM - I only train Youth Players and also Sim it every time.
Boosts/Penalties are very unbalanced. Id like to see them dropping attributes much more often from various reasons.
Had to learn that lesson too.
So what I did now, is do all the training sessions as they appear once and get a good grade, A or B. Then I can sim them later on and will be awarded that grade I achieved manually, all the future time.
OK, the boosts from training are bit overrated, but I like the aspect that you have to do it yourself at least once. So you learn some mechanics of the game and you get better over time.

Well I get enough collisions that could result in a foul. Wouldn’t say players aren’t close enough to produce them.
i try to get set pieces via those advantage situations where you can cancel the advantage. Just cosmetics. ;)
i get penalties though, often without a yellow awarded. Waiting for my first straight red for bringing a striker down as a last man.

My big problem with this system is that it's too easy to push the players if you only get A and B's. Most of the players get +6, +7 or even +8 and for me that's not realistic at all. What I do now is that I simulate all sessions so that I get a D and so the players have only +1 or +2 and if they play well they get a higher boost. So it's a bigger challenge to win and develop your own players.

Its so weird, coz im getting free kicks on the pitch and close to penalty area, but didnt have a single penalty.

As for the training - I dont want to be getting A's all the time and thats why I always Sim them. Id rather have it random and not too overpowered.

Edit:
oh, I scored first free kick since they introduced Right Stick Ball spin!
It never made much sense to me how my applied spin never really reflected ball trajectory. It didnt make any sense to me how it worked in previous Fifas, coming from a real football pitch.
F22 seems to have fixed that. When I apply spin I can more or less predict how the ball will behave.

I’ve won quite a few penalties but hardly any free kicks!

Most of my fouls are when I’ve beaten the last man or outside the box from the AI.I’ve had lots of moments where the AI will be physical in the right context.Breaking momentum with a slide tackle or closing down just at the right moment to push the ball out of play, press the space. It will also get a foot in,pull at my players and generally disrupt attacking play when it wants. The lack of what’s called and given is debatable sometimes and I wouldn’t deny overall the physicality couldn’t be further amplified. When it’s good,it’s good. There just isn’t enough of it.

Agree with emroth in regards to free-kicks.At first I was a little mythed, but now am beginning to really understand the logic and really like it.

Coming from 1000’s of hours of Pes21,there’s so many of the better aspects of that coming through in this next gen version from ea.Things like the long ball, the feeling of passing(which I love),Fuma and the ability to play into space. The defending logic that allows you to close shop and how reading, rather then reacting to danger pays its own rewards.I’ve never been so busy using CM to cut out passing channels, provide additional cover or just be that extra man that mops up dangerous lose balls in the box.

The AI though is the real selling point. It just makes everything so cohesive.I just love this and the game as a whole.

Ive said it before and I will say it again.I just don’t feel like I’m playing fifa.

Edit.

I also like being tested. When I’m caught on the break or in a situation where my defence is more exposed.Covering angles and valuable pockets of space, that have been opened and been created. That’s football.

Not sure what do you mean.
I have gamepass ultimate and that gives me access to EA playtest and I found next gen version no problem.
Just had to go to my apps and games and search from there, in Full Library.
I have it too, it just gave me the trial option for normal XBOX one fifa, perhaps I did something wrong, gonna try again soon

Yes there had to be a reason I wasn't dreadful at manual shooting. But it also means headers are hard af

I recorded a goal and sent it to Chris saying "LOOK AT THAT BEAUTY!"
Then I checked the settings...
Ehmm... forget it... it was all on assisted...

Eventually all the settings saved, but yeah, it was pain in the ass, coz it seemed like I had to change settings in every mode.

The thing is - I think they actually reworked them this year.
I dont think its us, who are finally starting to understand them. They just work as they should.

Let’s see at the end of my first season. For now, ovr isn’t massively improving.

You all seem to be right about the sliders, tried 2 games yesterday with the OS sliders and the CPU GK was just standing still (?) the whole time, not really reacting to my shots and overall didn't really seem natural at all. Felt worse than the vanilla version.

That being said however, do you guys who play on the vanilla settings still play FUMA or SLOW game settings?

I play SLOW, default assists (I'm a default assists guy, always have been).

I only change injury sliders. Game is nice and challenging this year - still a bit too fast even on SLOW, but a very good game. Having a great time in my Middlesbrough save.

But you could still use FUMA with default and have fun - maybe on World Class rather than Legendary?

Every OS set I've ever tried always breaks the game (for me, I respect 100s of people enjoy using them). I always end up having to tweak them myself and it becomes a chore - I spend more time editing sliders than playing the game

OS Sliders are strictly for FUMA players I guess? I understand that people want realism, but I just want a fun, challenging experiencence - sure, I don't want an arcade game, but I want it to still be a video game first and foremost. I've always struggled with the idea of certain football games being labelled as a 'simulation'. No football video game in the history of computer & video games has been a simulation.

PES in the old days perfectly captured the balance between fun, challenge and a hint of realism. The OS Sliders LOOK good in action but when I actually play using them, it always makes the game feel really dumbed down and weird. Plus they always seem to put GK Ability way too low so the world class players such as Allison, Ederson, Donnarumma etc turn into Sunday League goalkeepers

Again, I mean no offence to anyone who spends a lot of time working on them - they're just not for me (personally).

I tend to agree when it comes to OS sliders. I mean no offense to Matt10 or other users who spend a copious amount of time tinkering with the game for the benefit of the community, but the OS sliders make the game feel a bit off to me. It feels too static and it loses a lot of the challenge and dynamic nature of a more default experience. Changing the run frequency, line height and width makes the game feel wonky in my opinion. I also find that a passing speed of 40 to be far too slow on manual passing. Anyway, they're personally not for me, but I admire the effort.

I play FUMA (except semi-shooting for now), Legendary, Slow, Competitor Mode and the star player feature off, with some minor tweaks to sliders. I lower Sprint Speed to 44, jack up the CPU pass, shot, and first touch error to around 60-65 (still experimenting as 65 seems a bit too high for lesser teams) and lower their passing and shooting speed a tad. Still tweaking things myself. I leave everything else untouched.

Sounds like this could be a really good game. How great to finally have a game that to some extent meets expectations. How great also, as a consequence, to have a thread full of such positivity.

I refunded the pc version and picked it on Stadia. Did just a few friendlies but man - it's a whole other realm. Looks, and feels damn good and I haven't even touched slides. Just coming from a Netherlands - Argentina.. so many great, small things. I understand that's Fifa and somebody won't like the overall feel (rightfully so), but I'm a man of relative simple tastes and this game finally feels like something new, and enjoyable. Hopefully I won't eat it back in a few hours/days lol.

Anyway, being a bit of a freak control I'm certainly not an enthusiast of streaming gaming, but I can't hyde that having Fifa 22 old gen barely run on my (now a bit old) Pc while being able to play relatively fine and practically without heating my cpu the next gen version thanks to it, feels quite nice.

it's a shame that stadia isn't available everywhere!

Playing offline v the ai is it really enjoyable and interesting to play?

Pes 2021 is excellent v the ai apart from sometimes not getting penalties. Tempted to buy after the rubbish efootball although I do have PES2021 with klashmans tactics set up.

I actually tried with everything on semi assisted last night, but I feel the ground passes, at least, still feels like assisted, remember playing Fifa 20 and there it's definitely much harder to pass. Here it goes directly to your teammate, I tested it out in 2-3 games to see and there's barely if any difference.
Don't know if they tuned it down or if it's like a bug, it would be better to make it a bit harder on semi assist. It's definitely better when it's more loose, it has impact on tempo and randomness in gameplay.

Well, it does not appeal to everybody. I can't look past the unrealistic speedy movements in close control. It has that oldschool ultra-responsive touch which kills the simulation approach to me.

The visuals are not really NextGen as well. Turfs look very flat and - depending on conditions - a little bit cartoony and oversaturated. Unlike many other games there are no ingame graphic adjustments (contrast/gamma...), which would allow to control the intensity.

But as you said, large parts of the community seem to be quite happy to my surprise.

here are three league games from my custom league tournament . 1st couple of games are manual and I get battered on world class ..last game starts on 45 mins against athletico on semi world class..finishes 3-3 but two of the AI goals oh my days ..worth a watch
