FIFA 20 Discussion (Console Versions)

Still can't see the CPU line up

Messi playing but not captain doesn't bode well for the CPU keeping the best possible players on the pitch either.

That footage is...meh. The CPU trying that first time shot is still there and it looks stupid, like the animation looks out of place.

It didn't look too difficult either but he IS playing as Real Madrid. I'll just have to play it to form an opinion really. I always find the demo builds difficult on Legendary though then I play Career on Ultimate and it's piss easy regardess of who I choose. I think the form of your players makes too much of an impact. First game of the season is usually pretty tough, but as soon as I get a win or two under my belt, the form arrows point up (or whatever happens I can't remember) and then I can't stop winning.

Come on EA, I just want a challenging Career Mode. It's all I ask for.

Not being able to see the CPU lineup? (Still)
Wtf is going on?
We don't ask for much, but this...
It's stupid isn't it? Why lock that away, it doesn't even make sense?

In real football the team sheet goes live to the world an hour before kick off.

It took me 30 seconds to conclude that it is FIFA 19.5. Still easy.. Still no stops in the game. No wrong passes. The game only stops when the goalkeeper saves a shot.

This is against the cpu on Ultimate difficulty. Starts at about 1hr 09m in.

Only had time to watch the first half but looks okay to me. I'll double-down on my previous statement that the positional changes and the reduced run frequency will be a substantial change to the single player experience. At least for me, that's EA attempting to address one of my biggest criticism of 19. Guess we'll see how improved it actually is.

But still worried about the difficulty level. That first goal should never have happened. I also noticed the legacy issue of AI defenders just freezing when faced with a dribbler. Really disappointed that bug hasn't been completely fixed, though it doesn't look as prevalent.

But also, it's still just too easy to move the ball up the pitch. Passing looks like it might be a little - a little - more challenging, but the movement advantage is still there for dribblers and they can still too easily breeze past defenders at times (like in that first goal with Umtiti just doing nothing).

Build up play and chance creation still look too easy. Say what you will about PES, but playing that demo on the second highest difficulty level and I struggle to create chances and score. I want to see that same level of challenge in FIFA, but it doesn't look like that'll be the case this year. Again.

Just gotta get hands on with this thing...

The PES 2020 demo is very challenging, it's one of the main advantages of that game from a single player perspective and has been for years now.

Why can't EA give us a 'hard' single player game? What's the issue? It's weird.

I was playing FIFA 15 a few weeks ago, doing a Swansea Career on Legendary and god damn it's challenging.

It took EA up til FIFA 19 to figure out how to change a EFL badge into a PL badge for a promoted team in career mode,so I'm not surprised really...
2019 and you can't set up your team Vs the CPU properly,it's so bad

Odd, that looks much more in line with the beta pre patch, were they playing this live or was it pre recorded?
As someone pointed out in a post beneath the video, nobody has a controller in their hand so it would appear to be pre-recorded.

Which is odd - because how would they have had access to it? It's not from the beta or the username would be splashed all over it.

Good point about the username although I'm quite sure EA could do what they want with their game and their choice of footage for their presentation. There are many videos now and there will be plenty more to come, so if this is the only video that resembles the pre-patch beta, I think it will illogical to judge the game based on that one alone and disregard everything else. So, time will tell I guess.

I guess it's just me.... can't tolerate how player move and pass the ball. The animations are bland. Gelatinous. I don't know how else to put it.

Just me then? ok.
It is a strange one, I see the animations as very janky and totally unrealistic but it seems most dont. The only other game i can think of in recent times with animations this bad that i have played is Madden.

Not just you at all. The players movement has looked weird in FIFA since forever.

But the game is so much more deeper, unpredictable and organic in front of goal compared to it’s competitor.

If you could take the gameplay of PES 2020 in midfield and FIFA around the goal (shooting etc) then we’d have a really good football game.

Not impressed with the videos coming out. Playing with krebstar sliders last year and 20 min halfs i had a good experience but two things i was looking for this year. Fouls and the cpu passing backwards if they needed too. Looks like the first year of me not buying any football game in 20 years. Pes is still a million miles from the ps2 days. Dark times for us simulation guys hopefully the next gen of consoles next year gives us a lift.

I can only see footy gaming getting worse for us single player gamers next gen. I’m speculating of course but it wouldn’t be surprise me at all if both FIFA and PES are FUT/myClub only games.

This is what FIFA's become?... :PUKE:

I quite enjoyed 15 but it just seems to be getting worse by the year. The physics on passes wouldn't look out of place on the PS1.

I dont remember Fifa 08, 09, 10 & Fifa WC 10 animations being this bad (Those were the last Fifa titles i put a decent amount of time into and the closest EA ever got to PES gameplay wise at the time)
Watching that vid no sign of any janky animations and they are pretty decent.
edit: Just realised that is now 10 years ago! Wow!

when I see those animations I think they look good for their time but it is surely an exagerration to say newer FIFAs are somehow as inferior or "janky" (whatever that means) as you suggest, this does not seem rational to me. it's like when I go to PES videos and see FIFA players calling PES animations shit and "robotic", really? I mean maybe you could say that a few years ago but not any more. I think animation in both games use different systems and that is it, people are invested towards a particular style and can't see past it. FIFA is more that specific animations are over used and look poor like the stabbed pass animation, but it is not so bad it could not be "good enough" with some tweaks.

Been playing a lot of 19 lately, and I've enjoyed it,but I've never been comfortable in how easy the CPU passes the ball and shots, without adjusting their body,it's super fast ping pong, even though my slider set is as low as it can get in pass speed/acceleration/and a high FT error.

When i tried my old BL save on FIFA 18,I was blown away on how much more balanced that game is,CPU adjusting their body when passing ,much more weight in how the game plays etc.
Both games a have OS sliders.
Is this how it's going to be ?
More ping pong every year?
I rather stick with my 18 if that's the case

Damn look at that turf! Looks great!
Euro 2008 was an excellent game made by EA. I enjoyed that one so much.
Sorry for the off-topic.

Check out what HE HIMSELF says (the guy streaming this) at 4:42.

"I think the first couple of weeks of FIFA 20, like, people are gonna be scoring all sorts of goals cos there's just gonna be no defenders in shot."

They're complaining that it's too hard to defend, basically. "I can't do this defending" he says, later on.

The saving grace for me - there's not bags of goals here, and a fair few passes go completely off target.
