If they are going to carry on with Frostbite, it's going to need to be something like Frostbite 2.0. It will start looking dated soon. Specially with the new Nvidia RTX gfx cards.
Looking at Battlefield V etc. I'm not sure it'd be considered to be "outdated" graphically by Joe Public. I think their continual evolution of it is pretty good (from a visuals standpoint), and as for PC graphics cards... Their focus isn't going to be PC gamers, is it - and next-gen consoles won't be PC-level advanced.

I'd love nothing more than for them to rip up Frostbite and build specific engines for specific purposes (prioritising graphics and button-latency isn't ideal for a sports game that could have a higher CPU focus on intelligence and strategy). But it's trailers and graphics that sell games to the masses - and their complete focus on Frostbite allows them to squeeze the most out of every game in terms of graphics, and in terms of (relatively) quick production time.

I don't see it changing any time soon. They're a business and from a business standpoint, it's a fantastic practice (best visual results leading to most product interest and best product uptake, with the quickest production time).

Yeah, don't get me wrong, FIFA 19 looks superb and it's fluid and it's smooth.
But I feel like they are just holding the game back a little bit by using this engine. I know they could do something much more powerful if they had a dedicated engine just for FIFA. And maybe other EA SPORTS game could benefit from that engine too. But it should be created with FIFA in mind, not NHL, not NBA. FIFA. Because it's been proven that football games are the hardest to make.

For all the people who are complaining that lower quality teams are playing super-powered tiki taka, could you please post some videos. Because when I play lower quality teams, I destroy them and they can barely put together an attack. And that's on Ultimate.

Also, are you playing on default or with sliders? With legacy or default defending?

Not saying people are making shit up but it just seems odd to me because this is the first year that I can remember that I'm keeping lower quality teams to under 80% pass accuracy on the regular and that's the complete opposite of playing super powered tiki taka teams.

i agree, i havent seen overpowerde tiki taka when playing aginst low rated teams. Also they have very poor first time touch and terrible pass accurancy. Against top teams especially real madrid or liverpool is different story. I think liverpool is team with worst tactic - they play forward ,forward ,forward like in old fifa games .

I’ve seen Reading FC...READING! Play tiki taka around me.

No one is saying the game is too hard. Some of us are just pointing out that the CPU talks BS and it’s unrealistic.

I can’t be bothered to post videos, it’s happened and it puts me off an otherwise really good fifa game.

Next time it happens I will record my findings just for you but I don’t have a YouTube account, what’s quickest way to upload?

I've had it happen with a League Two team I've been playing against too, on World Class.

If you're on PS4, I'd say it's easier to set up a YouTube account (takes about a minute) and then just use the Share button - but you can upload direct to Facebook or Twitter I think, then make it a "public" link and copy/paste the URL here. But I'd recommend the YouTube way - and then you can share it with EA too.

Thanks Chris I will try that.

Yeah, I'm definitely not suggesting that it's a difficulty issue - I've essentially quit CM because of the lack of challenge.

But even playing FUT I don't see too much tiki taka from the CPU. Sure, there's short passages of half a dozen one touch passes that I wish wasn't a thing, but unlike years back when that's all the CPU would do and you literally couldn't get the ball off them because they were mistake free, I don't encounter that as a major problem anymore.

Not saying there's not flaws with CPU attacking AI, but the reality is that both football games have flawed AI in places - I mean, shoot, the vast majority of games still have poor enemy AI - but for me the CPU attacking AI in FIFA doesn't ruin the overall experience, mainly because for me the tiki taka moments are few and far between, tend to be brief, and usually don't result in goals. IMO I've not seen anything to indicate that it's near the issue it once was.

Personally I'm far more concerned with the defensive CPU AI since it's a pervasive issue that makes the entire mode not worth playing.

Anyone else avoid playing as a team if you hate their kit, or just me?

I'm so petty like that. Really hate it when a team has a green kit, home or away

Yeah i hate green kits too, they clash with pitch and ruin look of your players.
For years I hated playing Liverpool home kit as the red made the players look more rigid co.pared to away black kits for instance.
As lighting improved and the tone of their red changed, it's more tolerable.
Not a fan of teams in yellow either...which is green by another name I.suppose.

What's the view on the new patch guys? Haven't downloaded it.

I feel like the games moving more and more towards a relentless style of play with successive patches.
Remember with first patch and Matt sliders, games were heavy and slow and real pauses in the game, now, although it still slows, there's a sense of the game always moving, moving moving.

I think the thought of tiki-taka in FIFA is a bit off the mark. Passing to static targets, then slight movements, is more around what tiki-taka is as strategy, but in FIFA, it's just successful pass and move concepts. The pass is made into the player's stride versus "square" to them. That's the issue with FIFA, and always has been. Once they introduced those dynamic runs, we were bound to experience this direct, and easy, passing, on both sides of the ball. There's a lot more give in the banks, which is why you rarely see fouls, because there is just less resistance overall.

I am having issues with this too pal. I'm enjoying online Co-op, it still feels relatively decent with West Ham. I spent 3hrs last night messing with sliders to try and enjoy the game again and it has just become bland for me. I'm considering reinstalling it but then I would have to update it to go online with my mate. It's a subtle move toward regular Fifa gameplay which I am not fond of and enough to take out what I was finding enjoyable with it. Another year it seems without a full 12 months enjoying a footy game.

Yes, describing it as a tiki taka issue has never been quite right and probably contributes to people disagreeing over this.

I'm not sure I follow you with your description about passing into stride being the problem. For me, the issue is just that first-time everything - first-time passes, first-time shots, volleys, and headers - are all too accurate.

When it comes to first-time passing, something that bothers me (though it's slowly improving year to year) is that there's not enough bounce with first time passes. IRL the issue with short to medium range first-time passes isn't just about directional accuracy, but those types of passes often lead to the ball leaving the ground, which slows down the movement and leads to more difficult trapping or next first-time touches. For me that's not replicated near enough in FIFA and is a big part of the problem.

I actually have a weird thing about socks. Some styles give a slightly thicker and weightier feeling to players to me, while others exaggerate that skinny-legged look of the player models that I can't stand. So when each FIFA comes out, I actually spend time going through most kits looking at socks to see which teams/kits I can use that year. Yes, yes, I am not well in the head, don't rub it in, though I swear it's just FIFA that makes me so neurotic.

Speechless.

Thank you god, it’s not just me!

I can’t play as an EFL club that have those awful sponsors on the back above or below the squad numbers!

So I go through the teams to check. Thankfully Villa and Derby don’t have them so when I take them teams to the PL, they won’t look out of place.

It’s so tacky having sponsors on the back IMO.

I tought it was pretty normal to be honest. Some kits and socks masks way better than others the not-so-perfect model shapes.. I regularly scout for teams with kits apt to use since I started to play Fifa again.. even if this last 3 years with the new engine it has been a bit better at least for me.

Definitely noticed this a lot, it is insane design. First-time everything (passing/shooting) is usually more accurate and rewarding in this game. Taking an extra touch, will be less accurate. The game punishes plays that make more sense in a way that I don't think I've seen before. Obviously you will have less space & time to work with if you take it slowly, but the upside is avoiding mistakes. Not so here. Play as fast as you can and you'll reap all the rewards.
