FIFA 13

My only real negatives at the moment are, as ever, the already much-commented passiveness of the AI defenders not nearest the ball, and also bemoaning the return of the magnetic ball after I'd been convinced it was gone from the demo. And there's also an odd bugged behaviour the AI very occasionally adopts when they start playing strange one-touch passes in their own area. Otherwise... fun had.
Ah, yes, I noticed this and forgot to mention it. My teammates (playing as my Be A Pro) started doing this and I was stood in midfield watching, like ... what's going on guys? Was it something I said? I'm right here.

The match day team ratings make quite a big difference it seems, I noticed on the demo that Arsenal were a bit too easy to score against so I increased their match day defence rating to +3 (the same as Man City) as well as their midfield rating, suddenly they became much harder to break down and beat me with 14 shots to my 7. Arsenal still had 14 players on downward red arrows though, so I'm not sure how the player form and team form values interact with each other.

my issue is speed and the players feel like they are weightless.

Does anyone have good sliders for people who like the game on slow and like the players to feel heavy?

thanks

I just set speed to 40, pass to 40-42, and shoot to 42-45. Setting down acceleration makes the pace feel weird. So, everything else set to default.

on what speed? slow?

I find that unless you keep it on normal and then reduce your speed stats, the fluidity isnt quite right.

I thought the pitches needed to be bigger but then i watched the arsenal chelsea match and the proportions seemed very close. the pitches arnt really massive.

yeah.. slow. i am still playing pc demo though.. it seems ok to me.

Had 3 games tonight, legendary, slow, manual using Placebo's sliders.

First game, City v Dortmund, they annihilated me, I didn't get a shot away.

Next, City v Newcastle, much better, very even, only a Yaya drive after some nice build up separated the sides. Not many shots from either side though, it was a bit of a crap affair.

Finally, City v Stoke. I felt I was playing against Stoke, they hoofed it a lot, Crouch using his chest well and laying it off to Walters. One weird occasion when the keeper and two defenders one-touch passed it around my strikers instead of clearing it. Their failure to clear it led to a goal, as did a wayward throw in.
They really pushed on towards the end, but I comfortably won 3-0.

Very happy that 3 teams played so differently, it looks like manager mode might be worth the time!

Played my mate 3 times online.
Won 2 drew 1. Not bad considering he has played FIFA for years and me never properly.
We just picked random teams.
The slow setting was perfect and the best game was brum v Bolton.
The best teams just seem super fast.
I also used Santos who are average but have Neymar who is immense in this game.
Also Sahin of LFC is a joy to play with.

My Xbox crashes every time a player goes to take a throw in, then I don't take it quick enough he puts the ball on the floor in order for another player to take the throw...as soon as he does this it crashes!!!! Happened 3 times now :(( stupid crashy game :PP

Yeah there's definitely a difference between the way the big teams play. I started a career mode in the Belgian league and sadly every single team seems to play the same way. Oddly enough despite the general poor quality teams they all set-up to a style where they try to walk to ball in constantly.

Have you ever seen the animation where they change throw in takers? I want to know if it happens to other Xbox users? Because if I wait too long for my players to get in a good position to throw to, the animation of changing player to take the throw kicks in and this is when it crashes :(( be good to know if anybody else experiences this?

I've seen that animation and no problems caused by it on my 360.

It's very strange then, because it happens at exactly the same time just as the player drops the ball and it hits the floor it just crashes?! Bloody annoying. It must be something wrong with my disc?

PC related question: how do you skip the lengthy startup malarky?

ie. language selection/press start or space/select and load profile/

I always use the same profile and it baffles me that in 2012 there is no option to remember this...

That's disappointing to hear. I generally try to do a manager mode starting at a lower league, no money club. That will be boring if only the top teams in the top leagues play as they should.

I'm playing at Port Vale at the moment as my VP has been loaned there for a year in my Career mode. There isn't a great deal of difference in the teams in Lg2 but you do notice individual players with strength, pace, those with a bit more skill on the ball etc. So I think it still plays ok and I don't know if it is that much difference in real life?

I don't watch Lg2 but I assume there aren't that big a difference between teams in real life, in the way they play I mean? (There are obviously going to be better teams than others, which the game shows)It is just that individual players shine a lot more and are the difference between teams, so I think in that respect it is true to life.

I am noticing quite a few mistakes in commentary, things like saying I am still looking for a win in the league when I have won 8 games, saying the team is going through a torrid time at the moment when I am 1st in the league etc it is a bit annoying, but I guess it is too much to ask for it to be perfect I suppose :))

Did you install the game to HDD? If not you definitely should, if you did try deleting it and installing again.

I think it happened when I was playing with the disc and through HD, but I will check :))

I'm editor of the Belgian league and every team is set up with their real life playing style. The problem is the difficulty setting, if you play on professional every team will try to walk the ball in...

i cant play on legendary anymore, when you score the AI seems to go into god mode and score straight away..maybe im a bit rubbish but not sure..also there are a lot of 45 min/90 min goals

So alter your approach to try and avoid these vulnerable periods. Play more conservatively for a few minutes, lower your team mentality, don't commit so many players forward, retain the ball and kill the momentum, etc...

Well did some custom tactics testing last night and i can confirm they do matter this year compared to previous years.

I used sheff Utd and in attack i used passing 1, crossing 1 and shooting 100 to see if they would pop it from distance.

I found that they didnt shoot from distance too much, but didnt try and walk it in. When they had it wide they would just keep the ball and not fling in a crosss.

I then edited a few of the sheff utd players and boosted their long shot stats and played the same game again. They started to then squeeze off shots from distance which was very pleasing and resulted in some nice action.

I then re edited the custom tactics and boosted the passing to risky and crossing to lots. I then replayed the game and found that they then started to mix it up, including a few chipped passes over the top into channels to chase.

I then took another side, in this case Bolton and made them sit deep, play long ball and create lots of crossing, and it worked like a treat more or less.

I also tweaked swansea and they played more of a short quick attacking game, and less of long ball.

So i would suggest you create your defined set of custom tactics based on a certain teams style and the assign them.

If you want more long distance shooting i would advise boosting long shot stats on one or two extra players within in a team. There are players that have this attribute, like Gerrard or Adam, but i think its beneficial to adjust certain other players who will have a pop on occasion when theres space.

One thing to note, it really only works when you boost the stat to over 90. If its between 70-90 its a bit hit and miss. if its over 90 they will take a shot if afforded an opportunity, or hit it first time. It doesnt mean they will be successful, it just means you increase the frequency of shots.

Scored a wonderful goal earlier, Tiote first time curling lobbed volley from outside the box, sometimes you press shoot and have no idea why and then you see the results and it's a serious wow moment, would have sat watching replays for ages if I didn't have to go to Swedish class! Will upload it later :)

Finally got my Tiote curling volley uploaded!

YouTube - Cheick Tioté wonder goal, Fifa13 all manual :)

Decided to try being a bit creative, feedback would be appreciated :)
