FIFA 13

Maybe it's down to your opponents playing style? I had lots of games the other day online (Manual, Slow) and most of them were not counter attacking football. Then there are some guys who constantly are chasing you around and using teammate contain, and as soon as they get the ball it's pass the ball to Ronaldo and sprint...

Wrote about this a couple of days ago, but is there anyone out there doing a player career with your VP, who also think the match rating system is a bit flawed? No matter what you are doing, you all of a sudden see your rating just drop. You can be at 7.5 and after just running with your player doing your marking, you get down to 7.1 in seconds.

Yep it's been reported a few times on the EA forums that the rating system is iffy, add it to the very long and growing list of bugs, glitches and freezes in Fifa10, oops I mean Fifa13 ;)

I avoided playing seasons last year because EA decided that you cannot check the connection latency before games in it. Meaning, through normal ranked games, I can easily avoid starting a game and finding out that i have to predict what button to press 5 seconds ahead of time.

This year, because I guess since seasons was amazing and successful, I have run into at least 3-4 out of 10 shit connections where you are faced with an ultimatum of either playing fucking 12 minutes of anguish and agony (also given the speed issues, when a connection is bad the lag comes in as an icing on the cake really)or quitting which is something I don't usually do. Congratulations. Oh and sometimes after you go through the pain and you get a seizure winning or lose and keep your humanity the online mode decides to freeze. Perfect.

I HATE ONLINE!! it's fucking disgusting.

The sea is raging over on the FIFA forum

A few people on the EA forums are reporting that when their 360/PS3 is disconnected from the EA servers their career mode no longer freezes and the menus etc are a lot faster.

Played this last night - only for a while - but it was a bit of a mess.
The players are skating around and have no weight to them. Also even on slow the game is way too fast.

I will do.
I only played one game - looked at the clock and it was 23.30pm so thought I better go to bed as I have work today.

That's good to hear, db.

I played a few exhibitions vs West Brom and vs Swansea, and I thought there were tangible differences between the two teams. Swansea pressed more urgently and played more patient short passes in deeper positions, whereas West Brom sat back and played more on the counter with forward passes to Lukaku.

James Morrison was a nuisance with his forward bursts too.

Hi mate

My main concern with FIFA had always been the lack of a noticeable distinction between players, but the evidence is clearly overwhelming that my worries were unfounded.

Yes now that you mention it, Morrison he was an eager beaver. The physicality of players seems to be particularly spot on. I havent played with or against Everton yet, but would be nice to see Felliani using his chest to his advantage much like a young Kelly Brook.

The more I play this game online the more it reminds me about why I stopped playing Fifa in the first place. Even against friends on slow/semi-assisted the game is so fast, as i've said before, but a number of other factors are becoming clearer. I simply cannot play this game trying to play it like an actual football match.

- For one the game still spits in the face of an attempt to play it conservatively. Speed is key. Tackling is often so precise that there's no point in trying to sit back and mark a player. You can so easily run into an opponent, take the ball and keep it at your feet with ease (and break). You never have to fear going in for a tackle and missing the ball. Players often manage to tackle from completely unrealistic (body) positions so long as they're near enough to the ball.

- The easiest way to attack is still counter-attacking and whilst that may not be surprising what is difficult to accept is harder it is in comparison with attacking through sustained pressure. Such an attack usually ends with the player being cramped and the ease of tackling coming into fruition. You rob, or get robbed, and then break ad nauseum. Yes I see me doing the same thing to other players too. There's no way to comfortably get the ball and play the ball in the midfield looking to build your attack on sustained-pressure.

- When I played the demo I honestly thought that the game had struck a good balance between attack and defence so that neither had a greater advantage than the other. Right now it seems the game is back to its old attack advantage ways. I think it's due to the fact I, and my friend, hadn't learned how to attack when we first played one another. Games were less goal-fests and more realistic scorelines like 2-0 and 1-1. Right now, after 12 hours of play, we're finding games ending in overly high scores everytime. Whilst they're always close affairs, 3-2, 4-3, 2-2 etc, it strikes me as odd that neither of us are able to defend well enough for the entire match. I try to stay defensive and it adds more pressure and the inevitable basic FIFA goal (which would would be a fantastic goal in real life) takes place. Either that or one of us is counter-attacked. It's funny that I find tackling to be so easy and unrealistic but games still end up in high scores. I think that says a lot about how easy it must be to attack.

- I find the effects of semi are negligible. It feels more like assisted than ever.

The game is great offline but that's probably because the CPU actually try to play real football, which in turn allows you the player to play the game like a football game. I feel that the CPU acts in a way to punish ferocious game-play Human players aren't punished at all for playing this game in an arcade ping-pong like manner by the inherent elements of the game - at this point we've exhausted the idea of this being a broken record claim and i think it's more apt to question whether time is just looping. I can't pretend my friend isn't what people would describe a typical Fifa player. It certainly doesn't help the experience but it does suggest, how again, the game doesn't punish such style of play. On the contrary, playing that way is actually more productive. I couldn't imagine playing assisted v strangers and having a good time really with the exception of manual (which I have no experience with). Playing online and playing offline is a completely different experience.

My two cents.

excellent post. I jumped the gun - the game wowed me to begin with and I still see what a great game it is. BUT too many things annoy me more than ever:

* camera angles/view. Why is fully zoomed out still too close?

* speed. Too fast. Game is to end-to-end.

* visuals are horrible. kits like Barcelona home waaaay too dark. man utd too bright red. Player models still look ugly ie. carrick looks like a big boxer.

* night games are horrible. As are day games in some stadium when sun is at particular angle. makes the pitch and kits look weird.

I will persist with it but I also have PES 2013 now. But that has lots of faults as well.

:(

youll fucking hate PES cameras then. All of them are shite.

ps - not stalking you - honest!!!

Seriously? That's a Fifa 11/12 bug

Yes sadly it would seem :( First thing I did in CM was unlock the edit feature and fix up all the generic boots etc, I had a funny feeling it might cause any issue but hoped for the best, so since than no Everton player wears skins/long sleeve ;(

Someone reported that Miguel Llera loses his head guard if you edit his boots but was hoping that was a weird exception, guess Peter Cech loses his as well?

patches have just made game makers lazy.

Years ago these games didnt have as many bugs. Would you buy a pair of football boots with half their studs missing - even if the company that made them said they would send you the studs a few weeks down the line?

FIFA 13 breaks one million sale-mark in the first week. What is happening? EA won the marketing strategy and a game with a better gameplay is still living in shadow.
