FIFA 13

League 2 teams feel better in some ways than Premier League teams because the game is slower so you have a bit more time to think where to pass/dribble/shoot.

I did Wimbledon v York and York actually kept it on the ground more than Bolton and Norwich did. I don't know if that's because I was playing better than Bolton and Norwich but the York game was more even, so the former teams played long ball to be defensive.

Or it could be that Bolton and Norwich have custom tactics set up by EA but York don't.

Edit: Although I should point out that York weren't playing tiki-taka by any means. They were keeping it on the ground but the dramatic difference in passing ability and first touch (it was definitely noticeable) meant they couldn't string passing moves together as well. And when they did they weren't as polished as Barca's.

Out of interest, have you tried playing against a League 2 team when you're a 5* team?

In FIFA 12, my perception was that if I played as a League 2 team against a cpu controlled League 2 team, the cpu League 2 team would play scrappy stuff and both teams would be equally poor, but if I then played as Man U against the same cpu controlled League 2 team, the cpu team would play far better than previously, like the game boosted the cpu League 2 team to be much closer to, but not quite as good as, the Man U stats...but the "roll of the ball" favoured the cpu team most of the time....felt kinda scripted, like some cpu cheat to stop me winning 12-0.

I am trying to put my finger on why the game feels wrong and I think I finally have it.

The whole player AI is just set up for counter attacks every time. Every time the CPU clears it they have men widely available with nobody marking them.

There is no pressure, no "willingness" to get the ball, nothing. It's too rigid.

The slow passing on manual is also rubbish too, why couldn't they leave a bit of zip in some passes without having to use R1+longball?

Shooting seems slow as well, both to respond and the pace of the ball. Although, I don't get many shots!! I've seen some awesome volleys and half volleys but ground shots seems weak...

I won't disagree that FIFA tends toward counter-attack football - I feel that way too - but I have found the more I play, the better I've become at slowing down the CPU's counter-attacks, and then the game can really blossom and the AI will play some nice passing moves.

For me, the trick is to be especially patient and conservative in defense. When I do so, not only do I give up fewer goals overall but the game slows down. The problem is, for a myriad of reasons, FIFA makes you want to rush, use sprint, race after those with the ball, etc.

I still have some bad experiences, and overall I'm really bothered by how weightless it can all feel, but it's gotten better the more I've played. We'll see how long that feeling lasts...

(And I couldn't agree more about passing lacking zip.)

Gotcha, so it was broken before, but that was better than it not being there.

So in that case, why is a Created Player so much less than a VP?
Gameface?
Accomplishment notifications?
Other things?

Two things:

1) Gameface

2) The bigger thing for me is that even though it's a flawed system, the accomplishment system added a dynamic that is sorely missing with all the other players ever since they removed the manual player growth option.

Taking part in your players' development is important for, it builds a connection, and even though I didn't like that VP development was based around completing seemingly abstract "tasks," it led to a greater feeling of investment on my part nonetheless.

CM has come on by leaps and bounds in the last couple years but for me I still feel little connection toward my players, which is why I'm hoping that adding player development features happens next year.

For some reason playing on Slow - Tele - 0 Zoom made the game movement seem weightier. I'm sure fiddling with the acceleration slider could improve it too. Also I bumped up pass speed to 63 which is much better.

Well, I got the game. And guess what, it's slower. It plays a better game than 12 for sure, but the one thing that will forever be my pet-hate, very light feel to players and skating :( Bring in Fifa 08's weightiness and I'm happy. I like how the ball bounces off players now.

Just did United vs. Exeter City. It ended 3-0. Honestly, it felt exactly how a cup tie between those two should feel. United started strong but once we scored twice early on I kind of took my foot off the gas. Exeter never had the skill to keep the ball for very long and they really only had one or two good chances that were mainly my fault.

Some stats for you:

Possession - 50% (I could easily have kept possession but I kept trying killer passes that didn't come off. Basically we both gave it away a lot.)

Pass accuracy: 75% United, 71% Exeter (again, if i hadn't tried so many killer passes it would have been higher for me. I'm also a bit careless on defense, if I played more sensibly and cut off passing lanes instead of diving in to tackles they would have been in the 60s for sure.)

Shots: United 9, Exter 2.

So there you go, in my opinion that was a great match (ok it was a shit match but the feeling of the two teams was spot on)

One thing I have noticed is that CPU definitely likes to take a shot from outside the 18 ALOT more than in FIFA 12. Or atleast Arsenal does. I've only been able to play two games so far of the retail version, both Celtic versus Arsenal and they took chances from all over. Including a 30 yard volley from Carzola.

And the keepers are absolutely brilliant. Best I've ever seen in a game.

Yep, definitely slower, on the PS3 version anyway. Players and ball feel heavier to me with tele cam zoomed all the way out and height at 3. Cranked first touch slider up to 70 for user & cpu:))

Well its not brilliant but VP season has come on alot at least now AI build up and pass and you actually feel part of the team. The AI make great passes and look for through ball for you now alot more intelligent then previous years.

I cant say that for this year Bal in PES your literally standing upfront like moron on that.

Seems faster than demo to me, but tuning down the sliders help. On PC.

Just had my first crash in CM. After a league match, the matchday results showed up and then it started loading forever. Had to Alt-F4. Fortunately it had saved the game so I didn't have to play the previous match. But it's worrying as I had three corrupted CM saves on 12.

Just had that old Pes moment in career mode
Playing as forest on world class in career mode lost all my friendly and put out of the league cup to Brighton 1-0.
no pace in the team so brought in Agbonlahor from Villa, played Brighton again in the first league game and getting him on the ball and running at defenders was how it felt in Pes when u started buying better players with increased stats he has scored 3 in two games for me already

So, what about the game speed offline in the retail version? @Ipswich and those who have it! :D

Like I mentioned previously, for me it's definitely slower, on the PS3, and a 42" Plasma tv (if that matters). I haven't touched the sliders yet.

On another note, that volley Messi does in the intro, I've seen it happen 3 times by League 1 players in defence in one match. They need to tone it down.

Or they raised their game as tends to happen in cup ties?

Best thing about this for me atm? Skill games!

The more I play the demo, the more I dislike playing the game.

Someone tell me the CPU AI is more bearable in the full game, PLEASE! Every single team is able the pass their way out from the back EVERY time. It's driving me insane.

Also, I've played PC and XBOX demo tonight side by side- the xbox demo is SO much faster than the PC version.

Yes I maybe on a 20" monitor and a 40" TV but still - the difference in speed is huge.

Makes me want to get it for the PC...

I played around 10 games of PES 2013 last night and was utterly fed up by the end. Put the FIFA demo and absolutely loved it.

Friday can't come soon enough.

Thanks for the responses guys, filled with more optimism now. I am aware I'm probably still trying to play like f12 and need to learn the new game.

I need to stop playing the demo.

Still enjoying PC version more though

That's just a standard bank transfer? Sounds good to me :)
